san diego burger week 2015 recap

San Diego Burger Week is amazing because 1) there are $5 burgers (like crazy, gourmet like burgers) all over town! For FIVE dollars! 2) Burger Week lasts LONGER than one week and 3) It’s fun to try a bunch of burgers and share them and 4) A lot of places have $10 deals to get your grubby paws on some fries and beer. Total score for San Diegans everywhere.
Here’s my recap of San Diego Burger Week. I didn’t visit quite …

carnitas uruapan revist

We hadn’t been back to Carnitas Uruapan in awhile. If you remember, I like calling this place Uhura (Star Trek, yo) instead because I kept forgetting how to say “Uruapan.” It pretty much still happens to this day. Sometimes I’ll just look at Jake and say “Uhuraaaaaaa!” and he’ll know what it is that I want. Ain’t that awesome?

I last wrote about Carintas Uruapan back in 2013 (thought we’ve been back many times) and I’m happy to see that the menu …

rodeos meat market

Tacos! Tacos are a completely lovely thing, aren’t they? Street style Tijuana tacos are even better than “normal” tacos with their oodles of meat and simple toppings. When you find a hidden taco gem if feels like you just stumbled upon a secret clubhouse filled with treasures. That’s how Jake and I felt when we found Rodeos Meat Market.

Jake had been wanting to visit another place in this little strip mall off Market and 47th street. Said place wasn’t prepared …

college sub shop

Over the weekend, Jake and I needed a little grub before we headed over to T’s baseball game (he recently made the varsity squad! Go T!).
I flipped through my Entertainment Coupon book to find something of interest in the area. We were headed out for burgers for San Diego Burger Week in the evening and wanted something a little lighter for lunch. I decided to check out the College Sub Shop.

College Sub Shop is located off El Cajon Blvd. near …

tamales ancira / chula vista

Tamales are still one of my favorite Mexican items and a treat I don’t get to indulge in as often as I would like. A lot of taco shops or Mexican restaurants have tamales on the menu, but they quickly run out of tamales. There are a few dedicated shops in town whose menu mostly consists of tamales and this is the one of those shops. Let’s check out Tamales Ancira!

I promise it does say “Tamales Ancira” on the outside …

gino’s pizzeria featuring the philadelphia sandwich co.

Gino’s Pizzeria Featuring The Philadelphia Sandwich Co. (isn’t that a mouthful) is a new spot to the Miramar area, behind the Denny’s on Miramar Road. They put together Gino’s Pizza and added the Philadelphia Sandwich Co. into the shop. The Philadelphia Sandwich Co. used to be located off Convoy Street near the Original Pancake House. Gino’s took over a place called Dino’s that served pizza and Italian sandwiches. I visited Dino’s a few times and always thought the place needed …

tobey’s 19th hole

This is a resurrected post from when I wrote about Tobey’s 19th Hole for a local San Diego site back in the day (2012, to be exact). I didn’t realize I still had the text and photos lurking around in my Google docs, so here’s a “blast from the past” article that CC encouraged me to repost (thanks, CC!). I had a few extra photos that I threw in as well. Please note, the prices may have changed since this …

cracker barrel + a tiny church in yuma, az

A spontaneous boyfriend and low gas prices prompted a mini road trip last month to Yuma, AZ. Why Yuma and why Arizona, you might ask? Mostly it was so I could finally try Cracker Barrel, a chain “down home cooking” restaurant present in many states but not California. Jake and T has tried it last year when they went to Aspen so it was finally my turn. I know, it’s just a chain restaurant but I was still curious!

We rolled …
