the money pit drive thru

Jake and I were up in the Northland (aka North County) for a little errand. The little errand took much longer than we though it would and it was quite late by the time we got around to eating dinner. I did some Yelpy research and found a place called The Money Put Drive Thru and decided to go there because the name sounded rad. Yes, that’s sometimes how I decide on where to eat: if it’s got a cool …

I am back from the East Coast! Boy, it’s great to be home and to NOT have to break out the GPS to get anywhere. I’m going to kick off the week with a Massachusetts post from the very first place we visited after landing in Boston – a pizza joint in my dad’s hometown of Fitchburg, MA. Don’t worry, there will also be San Diego posts this week as well!
After a snafu at the car rental place in Boston …

ellis island casino / las vegas
August 14th, 2015 Cheap Eats, Las Vegas, Mary, Travel mary 8 Comments

Ahhh, Las Vegas. It’s pretty much a rite of passage for all young adults in Southern California to make a pilgrimage to this unholy land of neon lights, cheap alcoholic drinks, gambling, and staying up all night until you pass out and wake up in a hotel room with at least five other people. You do this at least once a year (maybe more) until you get a little older and the allure of Vegas starts to get a little …

the grove grinder

The Grove Grinder is one of those little places we’ve passed by so many times without ever actually going in. One recent weekend it was finally time for us to check out this little building and see what it was all about.

The Grove Grinder is across the street from the GTM store and about a stone’s throw away from the Giant Lemon. You can see it on a side street if you’re driving up Broadway towards the lemon. It looks …

breakfast quesadillas

I made these for Sunday morning: Breakfast Quesadillas. I actually got the idea from a Pinterest post about breakfast burritos but I didn’t look hard enough in Jake’s kitchen to see there were big tortillas. All I saw were the little corn taco sized one and on the fly it went from breakfast burritos to breakfast tacos to breakfast quesadillas since I realized tacos would probably fall apart in the pan. I really wanted that crispy outside edge and quesadillas would be easier to heat up that way.

san diego burger week 2015 recap

San Diego Burger Week is amazing because 1) there are $5 burgers (like crazy, gourmet like burgers) all over town! For FIVE dollars! 2) Burger Week lasts LONGER than one week and 3) It’s fun to try a bunch of burgers and share them and 4) A lot of places have $10 deals to get your grubby paws on some fries and beer. Total score for San Diegans everywhere.
Here’s my recap of San Diego Burger Week. I didn’t visit quite …

carnitas uruapan revist

We hadn’t been back to Carnitas Uruapan in awhile. If you remember, I like calling this place Uhura (Star Trek, yo) instead because I kept forgetting how to say “Uruapan.” It pretty much still happens to this day. Sometimes I’ll just look at Jake and say “Uhuraaaaaaa!” and he’ll know what it is that I want. Ain’t that awesome?

I last wrote about Carintas Uruapan back in 2013 (thought we’ve been back many times) and I’m happy to see that the menu …
