kirin sandwich, mini donut ice cream, carnitas & pig ears + other ramblings
March 5th, 2015 etc, Mary mary 6 Comments

This will be another one of those radical random rambling posts (yes I just said radical, no I’m not stuck in the 90’s, hey I was going for alliteration).

[the kirin]
First up! THE KIRIN. Instead of being a magical sea creature, this is actually a sandwich filled with sea creatures. Shrimp to be specific. It’s one of the newer sandwiches from Supernatural Sandwiches and it’s a Shrimp Banh Mi with Chinese sausage. Mostly you just see the shrimp in my photo but you …

[product review] green pea cookie
February 26th, 2015 Mary, products mary 8 Comments

I’m a regular supporter or various things on Kickstarter and I get their emails talking about what projects the staff had backed recently or popular projects. I spied a little Kickstarter link to something called Green Pea Cookie and was instantly curious. Cookies… made with green peas? Say whaaaaat? I’m not even a fan of regular peas by their lonesome self, but I do love me some pea soup so I figured it’d be worth it to back the project …

star wars trash compactor cake for my valentine
February 16th, 2015 cake decorating, Mary mary 6 Comments

Valentine’s Day was over the weekend! I’m sure you realized this, seeing little pop up vendors all over town selling teddy bears and flowers and the insane amount of balloons in the grocery stores. This will be a quickie little post to recap my Valentine’s Day. Specifically, to recap the lovely cake I made for Jake.
Jake usually gets something Star Wars related from me on special occasions. This year I decided to go “all out” and do a whole cake …

chocolate cupcakes with bourbon ganache
February 11th, 2015 Mary, Recipes mary 6 Comments

Bear with me. It’s another Valentine’s post! But this time with chocolate. And cake. And ganache – with Four Roses bourbon in it! I hope you can get behind this.

Now originally for this post, I made the above cupcakes. Which are pretty and fanciful and cute and all. But the flavor of these cupcakes were terrible. They were too dry and tasted almost bitter and was a total failure. I ended up throwing them away because I couldn’t bare the taste …

peanut butter pie stuffed strawberries
February 9th, 2015 Mary, Recipes mary 12 Comments

Valentine’s Day is just on the horizon. It’s peeking over your shoulder! Instead of doing a box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day this year, why not try making something a little more homespun for your sweetie? Today I’m sharing a little recipe that I created using Driscoll’s Strawberries and I’m really excited about them because they turned out way better than I thought they would!

Peanut Butter Pie Stuffed Strawberries.
Doesn’t that sound MAGICAL?
It totally is.

I knew I wanted to do some …

blush desserts / kearny mesa
February 6th, 2015 Kearny Mesa, Mary, San Diego County mary 2 Comments

During Chicken Wing Week last month we tried to go to Common Theory. On a Friday night. I guess I forgot we live in a big metropolitan city because the wait time was over 45 minutes and I wasn’t willing to wait. Instead I dragged Jake and T over to Blush Desserts for a few desserts (for later, of course – we ended up just going to In-N-Out for dinner – mustard grilled burgers, awwww yeah). I’ve popped in here a few times but haven’t really taken photos or anything since I’m just now getting around to posting about it! Blush Desserts has tons of pretty macarons to choose from, plus cupcakes, cakes, bars, macaron ice cream sandwiches as well as coffees and teas.

[recipe] butterscotch pudding + another nestfresh eggs giveaway!
January 30th, 2015 Mary, Recipes mary 20 Comments

I received another opportunity to work with NestFresh Eggs in conjunction with National Egg Month this month! National Egg Month is around to help educate folks and raise awareness for choosing healthy eggs and including them into your diet. Did you know that NestFresh eggs are certified cage free – but what the heck does that mean? Certified Cage Free means the little hens get to roam around and feel like free little birds instead of cooped up in close …

pinkberry / new flavors + 10 cent frozen yogurt

Pinkberry is really more of a big deal to our northern neighbors but we’ve managed to hang onto two locations down here in San Diego. Pinkberry is celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary this year with a fancy, new, cheap special that I’m sure will get you in a tizzy. That is, if you love tasty frozen treats, which you should.

On Friday, January 30th (aka TOMORROW) you’ll be able to score $.10 cent Pinkberry! You’ll get a small cup with your …
