September 16th, 2015 Little Italy, Mary, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

It’s that time of year – San Diego Restaurant Week is here again! The day after we got back from Boston I was invited to check out Prepkitchen in Little Italy. It was a nice way to get back into the groove of being home again.

Prepkitchen is apart of the Whisknladle Hospitality group. The cool thing about going to Whisknladle or Prepkitchen for San Diego Restaurant Week is how they do it. They let you choose your own items for …

mama kat’s
September 4th, 2015 Mary, San Diego County, San Marcos mary 4 Comments

One lovely and crazy hot Saturday morning, Jake, T and I were up in North County. We don’t really spend a whole heck of a lot of time in the northern parts of San Diego, but here we were. It was still breakfast hours though the time was creeping up and over noon and I figured it was high time to try out this spot called Mama Kat’s.

Mama Kat’s is over in a little strip mall not too far from …

making chocolates at the gourmet chocolate class
August 28th, 2015 etc, Mary mary 6 Comments

A few weeks ago on an extremely warm Saturday, I was invited to try out a class with the GETCreative program at the Art Institute of California-San Diego in Mission Valley. I had the pleasure of taking a gourmet chocolate class and brought Stacey along with me as my guest. She might have grumbled a little about the 9AM start time but being rewarded with chocolates at the end seemed to subdue her a bit. Let’s check out the chocolate …

sweets raku / las vegas, nv
August 21st, 2015 Las Vegas, Mary, Travel mary 8 Comments

Last Vegas post! For now!
Our last Vegas thing was to go to this dessert restaurant called Sweets Raku that wasn’t too far from China Mama. It’s in another tiny strip mall with a very small parking lot (bleah). We ended up parking across the street in another lot. Sweets Raku is a sister restaurant to Raku, a sushi restaurant in the same area. I thought it was next door, but it was in another part of the strip mall. Sweets …

world curry 20th anniversary

Recently I was invited to attend an anniversary dinner for World Curry in Pacific Beach. World Curry has been around for 20 years (!) serving all kinds of different curries from around the globe (very appropriate restaurant name, don’t you think?). I took Stacey as my date and we saw a few familiar faces at the event such as Lynn from oh-so yummy, Faye from Faye’s Fork, and J.S. from Sun Diego Eats!

The restaurant was closed down for this special …

mary’s donuts

Looking through my past donut posts I was surprised to find I have never done a dedicated post to my favorite donut shop in town! What?! Oh it’s been mentioned on here before but I felt it was high time to officially share with you my very favorite donuts in San Diego: Mary’s Donuts.
I swear it’s not because we share a name, either.

I don’t even remember how long we’ve been coming to Mary’s Donuts but it’s been a few years now. …

bencotto + a failed dessert outing

I’ve been to Monello a couple of times but hadn’t yet tried the other restaurant, Bencotto, which is right next door. Bencotto is like the older brother restaurant. It’s a little more “fine dining” than Monello. Last Saturday Jake and I decided to sell our Padres tickets for that evening since it was just TOO HOT to go and sit in the sun for several hours. Dinner in Little Italy sounded like a way better idea. We also went early like old folks so …
