isabella artisan pizzeria [revisit]
December 17th, 2014 Clairemont, Mary, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

A little while ago we went back to a place that Jake and I visited for our anniversary earlier this year: Isabella Artisan Pizzeria. It’s a very dog friendly place with a big patio in the back, though this visit it was on the chilly side (and we had no Maya) so we sat indoors.

It’s kind of a big open space! The table we sat at had chairs that pushed right in under the table, so it just looks like …

lemon ginger shortbread cookies
December 15th, 2014 Mary, Recipes mary 4 Comments

This year was my first year participating in the Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap! I don’t get to do a ton of cookie swaps but I sure do love giving away cookies. I was able to “practice” on a potential Christmas cookie this year. I really wanted to make a shaped cookie – but NOT do sugar cookies – and finally decided on doing some shortbread.

More specifically: Lemon Ginger Shortbread!

The cookies have a ground up pecans mixed into the flour …

friday food finds / part four
December 12th, 2014 etc, Mary, products mary 2 Comments

By the time this post is up, I’ll be in PORTLAND eating whatever it is Portlanders eat. So, here’s a semi lazy post about some recent food finds.

For my birthday, Alyssa got me this box of Sugarfina Caramels. I loved, loved, loved the box plus the goodies instead of it! It was a taster box and had a bunch of fun caramel flavors! The flavors were Dark Chocolate Seat Salt, English Toffee, Fuji Apple, Matcha Green Tea, Mint Chip, Pumpkin …

carson kitchen / las vegas
December 9th, 2014 Las Vegas, Mary, Road Trips mary 4 Comments

During Food Fight Write, we got standard convention breakfast (re: trays of mostly warm eggs, bacon, and such, though one day there was also a Bloody Mary Bar…) and our lunches fared much better (BBQ!). Usually we were on our own for dinner and one evening I ventured out to Carson Kitchen with a couple of other bloggers. I had heard people talking about Carson Kitchen and got recommendations for it from other bloggers so I figured it be a …

Instead, in just a few minutes, you can mix a few ingredients into your favorite oversized mug, pop it into the microwave and PRESTO! Dessert. It’s a brilliant notion, really.

le parfait paris
December 3rd, 2014 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County mary 8 Comments

I was recently invited to check out Le Parfait Paris, a recent addition to Downtown San Diego. This cafe is actually their second location, with their primary location in Mission Valley. They’ve got an awesome open air feel with this new spot. Tables are on the sidewalk for maximum people watching and to enjoy our usually beautiful weather. Very European!

Jake, T and I visited on a recent Saturday morning and managed to park right in front of the cafe! This …

pumpkin pudding pie with pecan crust + nestfresh giveaway
December 1st, 2014 Mary, Recipes mary 5 Comments

I should have posted this before Thanksgiving, but apparently I’m bad at planning ahead for the blog since I made this pie the night before Thanksgiving. Oh well.
I wanted something that was kind of “pumpkin pie lite” and I also wanted a nutty element. But I didn’t want to be super crazy and do like a “combination” pie. Instead what I came up with is a pecan pie-like crust on the bottom with a pumpkin pudding on top. You get …

thanksgiving recipe suggestions
November 24th, 2014 etc, Mary mary 0 Comments

It’s almost Thanksgiving again! I feel like I haven’t even adjusted to the time change yet and already the holidays are creeping up on me. I’m going to blink three times and it’ll be Christmas. Time, you are going by way too fast.
I’ve started really getting into Pinterest lately and created a Thanksgiving board with tons of ideas for Thanksgiving recipes including side dishes and desserts (plus some crafts). Here are a few of my favorites from the bunch, plus …
