da chicken coop | lemon grove

Da Chicken Coop is a new fried chicken joint by the same person who owns Coop’s West Texas BBQ in Lemon Grove. Da Chicken Coop is actually just right across the way in the same strip mall as Coop’s so in theory you could get some fried chicken and waffles plus a pulled pork sandwich for lunch! We visited Da Chicken Coop recently to try out some of their offerings.

Da Chicken Coop only has a walk-up window and there’s outdoor seating …

islands fine burgers & drinks | huntington beach

Editor’s note: Please welcome to This Tasty Life our newest minion writer: Cris! I sent Cris off to Islands since I feel like I’ve been there about a billion times already and that review needed a fresh pair of new eyes. Happy reading! – Mary

pink’s hot dogs | valley center

This is my last Harrah’s Rincon post! It probably seems like I’m some kind of spokesman for them now but I’m not. I just wanted to see what it would be like to have all of our meals at Harrah’s. Not the best food offerings overall, but decent enough if you’re just staying for a little while.
After we had lunch at the buffet, we hung out in our room for awhile before heading downstairs to Harrah’s lazy river. Harrah’s is …

hiking at palomar mountain + the buffet at harrah’s rincon casino

During our mini staycation, we took off to Palomar Mountain for a fun (and tiring) nature hike. I wanted to revisit the Palomar Mountain School where I (and T) went for sixth grade camp. We also went to The Buffet at Harrah’s Rincon Casino for lunch! More on the buffet later. First up… breakfast!
Breakfast at Starbucks
If it’s after 6AM, there are only 2 options for breakfast at Harrah’s. If it’s before 6AM then Pink’s will be in the mix for …

the cafe at harrah’s rincon casino | valley center

Last week it was Spring Break for Jake and T. To “celebrate”,  my folks got us a free room at Harrah’s Rincon Casino and we had a staycation. The resort is far enough away to feel like you’re out of town, but still close enough to home. On our first night we decided to have dinner at The Cafe at Harrah’s Rincon – one of the sit down restaurants at the resort casino.

Harrah’s is pretty kid-friendly as well, though the kids still are not allowed to …

seasons 52 | downtown san diego

Recently I was invited to a blogger dinner at Seasons 52 at The Headquarters in Downtown San Diego. It’s that cool spot right next to Seaport Village if you aren’t familiar with the Headquarters! Jake was my date that evening and we got down to Seasons 52 right on time.

[strawberry basil infusion]
There was a little mingling session with the other bloggers and we were served these lovely little basil infused drinks. It’s strawberry-infused Reyka Small Batch Vodka with agave nectar, …

parkhouse eatery | university heights

Oh boy, another brunch post! It’s what I like to do on the weekends. I can’t help it, man. I hadn’t thought about brunching but Lynn from oh-soyummy posted a little note about wanting to get weekend brunch and I suggested Parkhouse Eatery. Viola! Brunch plans were made! Here’s a little secret: if you suggest wanting to go get brunch, chances are I’ll grab the bait.

One of the reasons I choose Parkhouse Eatery was for it’s dog friendly patio.

Maya has been coming …
