[recipe] green bean salad + homemade bbq
April 15th, 2014Mary, RecipesMary Desjean 4 Comments

A couple of weeks ago when I showed the strawberry lemonade and strawberry lime cheesecake bars I meant to show the rest of the dinner that week, too! But I got sidetracked, so slacker that I am is showing you now.
(PS – Today’s the last day to enter to win tickets for the Taste of Hillcrest this weekend!!! Enter and stuff!)

I used the same rub I’ve created in the past to smoke a pork butt and a rack of St. …

mr. peabody’s bar & grill / encinitas, ca
April 14th, 2014Encinitas, Mary, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 8 Comments

Mr. Peabody’s is a cool little dive bar/grill in Encinitas, CA that I was invited to check out last week. It’s tuckered into a strip mall right off the freeway at Encinitas Blvd. It’s kind of hard to spot since the sign doesn’t really stand out and it’s way back in the lot, but it’s worth a visit to this semi-hidden spot!

They got some sweet happy hour deals as well as Daily Specials plus live entertainment nearly every evening. You …

supernatural sandwiches / miramar – san diego, ca
April 11th, 2014Mary, Miramar, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 12 Comments

A few months ago, my co-worker cohorts and I tried to come to this plaza off Miramar Rd. for lunch to visit a place called Dave’s Cafe. But it had been closed down and a new spot was revamping it for an eventual move into the spot. Fast forward a few month’s and the place has finally opened and we went last week to check it out. The place? Supernatural Sandwiches.

I think they’re still working on their signage since the …

breakfast at wich addiction / mira mesa – san diego, ca
April 7th, 2014Mary, Mira Mesa, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 6 Comments

Usually I get to work too early to try and come to Wich Addiction for breakfast, but I had the chance to stop in for a bite to eat last week. I’ve tried plenty of other items on the Wich Addiction menu so I was looking forward to finally trying one of their breakfast items.

I decided to just with the simplest, cheapest option on their breakfast menu: “Just an Egg-Wich” for $3.95. I thought maybe it would just be the …

babs (bao’s awesome burgers) / convoy – san diego, ca
April 2nd, 2014Kearny Mesa, Mary, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 8 Comments

I’ve been sitting on a Groupon for Babs (Bao’s Awesome Burgers) for quite some time. We’ve tried to go a couple of times when it didn’t work out but this past weekend we finally made it in! Jake only had to circle us around the tiny lot once before someone left a spot that we were able to grab. I think Jake is a parking good luck charm.

For the Babs Groupon deal, we had the deal where you could get …

eating burgers at a taco shop | casa sonora / oak park – san diego, ca

Back in the day, Fred’s Old Fashioned Burgers was Jake and I’s favorite spot for burgers. It was in our regular rotation even though we had to go alllllll the way out to El Cajon for it. I loved their peanut butter chocolate shakes dearly and I especially loved their simple burgers and tasty french fries. We noticed a serious decline in quality and customer service before the El Cajon location shut down last year. There was still Alpine, but …

san diego burger week roundup
March 14th, 2014Cheap Eats, Mary, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 18 Comments

I read about San Diego CityBeat’s San Diego Burger Week on Janice’s blog, Food is My Favorite. I had never heard of burger week before! A bunch of restaurants around San Diego are offering up burgers for a mere $5. Every burger is a little bit different, with different toppings and various takes and there are even a few veggie burgers thrown in for the non-meat eating folks. Here’s my recap of the few places I tried during week – …

firehouse subs revisit + giveaway!

Recently I was invited to come back into Firehouse Subs for a special dinner with the co-founder, Robin Sorensen, who entertained a group of us with stories, jokes, and more importantly some food! Firehouse Subs has more recently started expanding out here in the West with over 700+ locations under their belt, so it was fun to hear hear a few tales about how the business started. It was also great to speak with and hear from one of the …

about this site

My name is Mary and I live in San Diego. I've been blogging since 2006 as a hobby - it's my fun, creative outlet! Some random things about me: I'm a front end web developer, I love peanut butter, cookies, warm cupcakes, puppy noses, star gazing, new bags of sugar, sprinkles, cupcake wrappers, egg rolls, eating french fries with ice cream, driving with the windows down, snuggling, wes anderson movies, staying up too late reading a good book and Jake. These are my adventures in all things food. Hope you enjoy the ride.
