wine dinner at the westin mission hills in palm springs
November 17th, 2015 Mary, Palm Springs, Riverside County mary 2 Comments

Last month I was invited out to Palm Springs for an evening of wine and food at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa. It was mid-October when Jake and I headed out to Palm Springs for this little getaway – back when it was still quite hot out and not feeling like fall at all! Let’s take a little peek back at our stay and the wine dinner.

Obligatory wind mills shot. Everyone has some form of this photo …

thyme in the ranch

A few weeks ago, Jake was working at an event up in Rancho Santa Fe with T and I tagged along to hang out with them while they worked doing airbrush tattoos. I stopped over at a place within walking distance called Thyme in the Ranch for a little bit of breakfast.

Rancho Santa Fe is a pretty fancy-shamancy looking area. The Downtown-like area we were in looked a bit like an English garden. Thyme in the Ranch fits in well …

lucky’s golden phenix restaurant [revisit]

It’s been over four years since I posted about Lucky’s Golden Phenix Restaurant back in 2011.

I’m happy to report not a whole lot has changed. Jake and I brought T here for breakfast one recent Saturday morning. It wasn’t too crowded in the restaurant and it didn’t take long for Lucky to swing by and say hi to us.

A few things on the wall have been added or swapped out but the rest of it looks about the same.

sin city burger at smashburger + giveaway

Hello to you on this fine Friday morning! Let’s talk a little bit about Smashburger. Cause I ate there recently. This is a foodie blog after all. We talk about food around here!

Jake and I hit up Smashburger after they graciously gave me some coupons to check out a couple of burgers. When we were ordering the sign above totally caught my eye. Mmm, chocolate peanut butter shakes! I haven’t had one in awhile (these babies have already existed at …

mark’s bark bbq

On a recent Sunday, Jake wanted to check out a new BBQ place he spotted when he accidentally drove up a random side street through Normal Heights. The place? A spot called Mark’s Bark BBQ which is only open to the public on Sundays.

The rest of the time they are a catering business called Bettina’s Custom Catering, Inc. but on Sunday’s the joint is all Mark’s. His mom works at the front and she told us that Mark puts the …

the money pit drive thru

Jake and I were up in the Northland (aka North County) for a little errand. The little errand took much longer than we though it would and it was quite late by the time we got around to eating dinner. I did some Yelpy research and found a place called The Money Put Drive Thru and decided to go there because the name sounded rad. Yes, that’s sometimes how I decide on where to eat: if it’s got a cool …

cruisers malt shoppe / gardner, ma
September 18th, 2015 Mary, Massachusetts, Travel mary 2 Comments

On the morning of my cousin’s wedding, we all went out for breakfast to a local diner called Cruisers Malt Shoppe.

Cruisers Malt Shoppe is a cute little diner in a corner spot in downtown Gardner, MA. The outside has some cool murals on it!

And inside Cruisers Malt Shoppe there’s a lot of neat, old decor. There’s a heavy focus on Coca-Cola related products plus lots of old records and car stuff.

It feels very much like a 1950’s Americana diner in …
