breakfast at nate’s garden grill

On Mother’s Day this year, Jake wanted to take Carin out for breakfast to Tobey’s 19th Hole but Carin dropped a hint that she would like to go to Nate’s Garden Grill. She had never been there and it’s very close to Jake’s house, so we figured we’d drive by and see how busy it was and use Tobey’s as the backup plan. The place was not busy at all, lucky for us! Nate’s Garden Grill is located inside the …

the cork and craft

Recently I was invited to go in and check out a relatively new spot up in Rancho Bernardo called The Cork and Craft. The Cork and Craft is a really unique restaurant that also houses a winery and a brewery. The restaurant came about as a way to bind all three ventures into one, making it a place to not only get a great meal but to also enjoy some local wine and craft beer!

Jake and I went in on a Friday …

draft republic

Draft Republic is a relatively new spot from the Cohn Restaurant Group that opened up in the La Jolla/UTC area. It’s not too far from my office and I’ve been here for a lunch a couple of times with my co-workers. It’s a really nice spot – there’s a big parking lot right next to the restaurant so you don’t have to stress about that (like you do if you go to UTC), it’s a big open layout in the …

[revisit] chef john’s fish and chips

Earlier this month Jake wanted to check out a taco shop called Tacos Al Pastor over in the Lemon Grove/Spring Valley area. It was kind of in the middle of nowhere, in a tiny strip mall amongst a lot of houses. Sadly it was closed and Jake couldn’t realize the dream of trying out this tiny shop. Since I was getting to the point of no hunger return, we opted to go to a place we’d been before. A little …

New York on Rye is a new deli shop that opened up in Miramar. New York on Rye originally started as just a food truck and has now expanded into their own space in addition to the food truck. They opened up just a few weeks ago in a spot that has been quite a few different iterations of deli’s (Top Bun, The Gourmet Bagger, Bombastic Sandwiches). Maybe this one will finally stick?
Minion, Matt and I visited New York on Rye …

vindiego wine and food festival
April 9th, 2015 etc, Mary, San Diego County mary 0 Comments

The 3rd Annual VinDiego Wine and Food Festival is coming up this weekend! I attended the very first VinDiego festival when it was held back at the Broadway Pier netting some gorgeous sunset photos.

Preeeeeeeeeeeeety.
Since VinDiego is over in Liberty Station this year, expect less pretty sunset photos from me and more photos like these:

Veggie Pasta from the first VinDiego (yum yum)

I’m certain that someone, somewhere at this event will have cheese samples out. Wine + cheese is a magical pairing …

a tale of two pans: cream pan and the apple pan

You know you’ve found the right partner in life when you’re sitting at home watching a travel food program, see a restaurant in Los Angeles that you want to try, and your partner says, “Let’s go next weekend!” even though he hates Los Angeles. Boys that are willing to do all of the driving and take you to LA just to try food are my kind of boys. ?
That’s how we found ourselves one recent Sunday morning – getting up …
