hanna’s gourmet / university heights
October 23rd, 2014 Mary, San Diego County, University Heights Mary Desjean 4 Comments

Alyssa was in town for a mini weekend visit and I met her and the family for breakfast at Hanna’s Gourmet, a spot I’ve been eyeing for a revisit for quite awhile. I visited Hanna’s Gourmet earlier this year with a few other bloggers and this was our dessert spot that day. I’m happy I got to come back to try out their other food.

Hanna’s Gourmet specializes in doing “World Tour” foods and that week they were doing the Philippines! …

weekday lunching at specialty’s, boudin bakery and opera cafe
October 20th, 2014 La Jolla, Mary, San Diego County, Sorrento Valley Mary Desjean 8 Comments

It’s Monday. And I’m home sick. Hence the late and short post. I am determined to beat this cold as quickly as possible though for birthday weekend fun times. I’m going to be like Barney:

Yesssssss. That’s gonna be me!

[turkey, apple, bacon and brie sandwich / $8.99]
Minion and I went to Specialty’s Cafe recently. I was in a “I-Want-Brie-Forever-And-Ever” mood and chose this sandwich which had roasted turkey breast, bacon and brie with fire-roasted fuji apples, arugula and lemon thyme aioli …

borrego springs / salton sea / mount laguna

Getting around to Part 2 of our little weekend trip out to the desert! You can refresh your memory with Borrego Springs Part 1 over here, if you’d like to. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

After grabbing lunch, visiting “The Mall” and checking into our hotel, Jake and I decided to drive out to visit the Salton Sea. Neither of us had ever been and we were curious what it was like. It’s about a half hour drive away from Borrego Springs, down a winding two lane road in the desert.

claire’s on cedros / solana beach
October 15th, 2014 Mary, San Diego County, Solana Beach Mary Desjean 8 Comments

Last week I was up quite early to take my folks to the airport. 4:30AM to be exact. By the time I got back home I felt pretty awake and decided to get ready and then take myself out for breakfast. I hadn’t visited Claire’s on Cedros since 2011 and I had a strong urge for their pancakes again.

[coffee / $3]
It was quite early and I decided to get coffee for some reason, which was kind of a dumb idea …

nessy burgers / fallbrook
October 14th, 2014 Fallbrook, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

On the way back home from Jake’s sister’s house in Temecula one recent weekend, we stopped for a little grub in Fallbrook. I had heard about Nessy Burgers awhile ago but they seemed to close early and Jake and I hadn’t managed to visit. Jake’s sister recommended the spot and we decided it was time to check out Nessy Burgers.

Nessy Burgers used to be in a little shack right next to the gas station off the I-15 and SR-76. They were …

cafe cantata / del mar

Howdy folks. It’s Monday again. MINION MONDAY. I love this whole “let someone else write for Monday” thing.

Tucked in near the Del Mar Horse Park, Cafe Cantata sits at the forefront of the recently revamped Flower Hill Promenade. Though we weren’t on our way to play with the ponies, Allison and I were both …

sea180 coastal tavern / imperial beach
October 7th, 2014 Imperial Beach, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 12 Comments

Last week my oldest friend, Sarah, was back in town for a little visit. The amazing thing about old friends is that the moment you see each other, even if you haven’t seen nor talked to them in a year, you just pick up right where you left off. It’s immediately comfortable and familiar again like you haven’t been apart at all. The only thing is that later you miss them more!
Sarah, her husband and kiddos were staying in Imperial Beach …

company pub & kitchen revisit
October 2nd, 2014 Mary, Poway, San Diego County Mary Desjean 4 Comments

My last visit to Company Pub & Kitchen was back in 2012. I wasn’t really wowed by it back then, but my dad had a group deal for the place and he took me out to dinner here. It was actually a really nice evening and we sat on the patio. If I had remembered/known about the patio we could have brought Maya with us since they are dog friendly. Too bad!

I was flipping through the … table advertiser/drink list/omg …
