legacy brewing tap and kitchen / miramar
March 25th, 2015 Mary, Miramar, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

I’m always looking out for new restaurants near my office since I love variety and I love checking out new places. I get uber bored when I end up going to the same places again and again, especially since I live and work in the same area. I need new foods in my life! When I discovered there was a new gastropub like place nearby I knew I had to go and scope it out.

Legacy Brewing Tap and Kitchen is …

wang’s north park

Recently I was invited to check out Wang’s North Park, an Asian-American-Chinese fusion kind of place over in hipster North Park. I took Jake, T, and Carin (Jake’s mom) with me to the dinner. We went pretty early on a Saturday, right when they opened, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Wang’s North Park is situated in a gigantic open space that used to JC Penney way, way back in the day. There are two levels of seating …

twenty/20 grill and wine bar / carlsbad, ca
March 13th, 2015 Carlsbad, Mary, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

Recently I was invited to go all the way up to Carlsbad land to check out a place called Twenty/20. It’s right next door to Legoland. When you pull into the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa (Twenty/20 one of those fancy hotel restaurants, after all) you can spy the different attractions down in Legoland without actually going to Legoland. Since I’m not under the age of 12, Legoland has very little hold over me, though S (who was along for the adventure) seemed a tad sad to see Legoland without stepping through it’s hallowed gates. Poor S. Maybe some other time.

izzy’s cafe / el cajon, ca

Back in January, Jake and I had a kid-free morning for some reason (I think T had baseball practice). Jake wanted to head out to El Cajon to visit a dealership to look at used cars and he let me choose a place to eat. Nothing new, eh.
I scoured around on Yelp to find a spot for breakfast and found a little placed called Izzy’s Cafe. It had decent reviews and seemed like a homey spot so we headed over …

gino’s pizzeria featuring the philadelphia sandwich co.

Gino’s Pizzeria Featuring The Philadelphia Sandwich Co. (isn’t that a mouthful) is a new spot to the Miramar area, behind the Denny’s on Miramar Road. They put together Gino’s Pizza and added the Philadelphia Sandwich Co. into the shop. The Philadelphia Sandwich Co. used to be located off Convoy Street near the Original Pancake House. Gino’s took over a place called Dino’s that served pizza and Italian sandwiches. I visited Dino’s a few times and always thought the place needed …

tobey’s 19th hole

This is a resurrected post from when I wrote about Tobey’s 19th Hole for a local San Diego site back in the day (2012, to be exact). I didn’t realize I still had the text and photos lurking around in my Google docs, so here’s a “blast from the past” article that CC encouraged me to repost (thanks, CC!). I had a few extra photos that I threw in as well. Please note, the prices may have changed since this …

portland, oregon – day four (last day)
February 4th, 2015 Mary, Portland / Oregon, Road Trips mary 4 Comments

We’ve finally gotten to our last day in Portland! And this post will be all food! The majority of our day was spent checking out a few final foodie spots and we spend a good chunk of time at the Crafty Wonderland craft fair at the convention center, picking up little goodies for presents to bring back home. Let’s check out what Jake, T and I ate on our last day in Portland.

Our last breakfast in Portland …

chicken charlie’s frybq / clairemont
February 2nd, 2015 Clairemont, Mary, San Diego County mary 8 Comments

Back in late December, Jake and I (with S in tow) got around to checking out Chicken Charlie’s FryBQ, the new storefront restaurant from the guy who sells all of the crazy concoctions at the fair every summer (think Fried Kool-Aid, Fried Pickles, Fried Twinkies and Krispy Kreme Chicken Sandwiches). In the fall last year he opened up shop and we were looking forward to seeing how a storefront would do in San Diego.
