supernatural sandwiches / miramar – san diego, ca

A few months ago, my co-worker cohorts and I tried to come to this plaza off Miramar Rd. for lunch to visit a place called Dave’s Cafe. But it had been closed down and a new spot was revamping it for an eventual move into the spot. Fast forward a few month’s and the place has finally opened and we went last week to check it out. The place? Supernatural Sandwiches.

I think they’re still working on their signage since the …

[recipe] shrimp and asparagus with cheesy grits
March 19th, 2014Mary, Recipesmary 8 Comments

Last night was the first night I had a real meal for dinner since last Thursday. After a few nights of eating bread, or saltines and plain rice, I was actually hungry for a real meal and set about gathering the ingredients to make one. Shrimp was on my mind for some reason and I headed over to H Mart and found asparagus on sale for $.99 cents a lb (wooo), shrimp on sale and grits just seemed to pop …

March 13th, 2014Mary, Poway, San Diego Countymary 10 Comments

Dad and I had dinner by our lonesome selves last week and he treated me to another dinner at the fabulous Takhrai Thai in Poway with one of his fancy groupon/coupon/discount deals. Also, Dad let me choose all of the items for our dinner that evening which made me incredibly happy. I took the opportunity to order a bunch of stuff we’d never tried before.

peri peri / torrey highlands – san diego, ca

Here’s another post from my minion, David. You’ll see why I sent him in my stead.

Not being familiar with most South African food, I was rather excited when Mary asked me to attend a preview dinner at the new Peri-Peri restaurant in Torrey Highlands. Central to most of North County, it’s off the 56 freeway near the scenic entrance to the Del Mar Mesa Preserve where hoards of avid hikers and cyclists flock to get …

red lobster / mira mesa – san diego, ca

Time for some chain restaurant dining reviews! Woo! Last week my momma won big at the casino and took us all out to dinner to Red Lobster to celebrate. Since she was buying, she choose the restaurant. Big time rollers here, you know. Let’s see how Red Lobster is doing these days, shall we?

I’ve cloned these cheddar biscuits back in the day but the real thing is still mighty tasty with that hint of garlic, a little bit …

romesco mexiterranean bistro / bonita, ca
February 13th, 2014Bonita, Mary, San Diego Countymary 4 Comments

My original interest in Romesco Mexiterranean Bistro was that I had seen them on Eater 38 San Diego list. And then I saw a coupon deal for them on LivingSocial (or something similar) which I bought and Jake, S. and I went for dinner one evening in late December. I didn’t have my regular camera with me at the time, only my iPhone!

que huong blogger lunch / city heights – san diego, ca

Last month I had the pleasure of dining with a few other very lovely bloggers: Kirbie of Kirbie’s Cravings (the organizer), CC of Pink Candles at Ridgemont High, Cathy of mmm-yoso, C of CAB Cooks, Darlene of My Burning Kitchen, Jinxi from Jinxi Eats and myself. The place of choice? Que Huong in City Heights.

I had visited Que Huong one other time and I don’t remember what I tried, but I remember not being very impressed. This time around though, …

seasons 52 at the headquarters / downtown san diego
February 4th, 2014Downtown, Mary, San Diego Countymary 13 Comments

Here’s my final Restaurant Week post! I’m a slacker.
I had a $25 dining card that was given to me on my last visit to the Headquarters in December. It was a crazy fun blogger thing that gave us all a glimpse into the coolness of the new Headquarters, which is located at the old Police Station Headquarters from back in the day (hence the name). I made reservations for Heather and I at 7:30 on a Wednesday night. Heather came …

about this site

My name is Mary and I live in San Diego. I've been blogging since 2006 as a hobby - it's my fun, creative outlet! Some random things about me: I'm a front end web developer, I love peanut butter, cookies, warm cupcakes, puppy noses, star gazing, new bags of sugar, sprinkles, cupcake wrappers, egg rolls, eating french fries with ice cream, driving with the windows down, snuggling, wes anderson movies, staying up too late reading a good book and Jake. These are my adventures in all things food. Hope you enjoy the ride.
