wine dinner at the westin mission hills in palm springs
November 17th, 2015 Mary, Palm Springs, Riverside County mary 2 Comments

Last month I was invited out to Palm Springs for an evening of wine and food at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa. It was mid-October when Jake and I headed out to Palm Springs for this little getaway – back when it was still quite hot out and not feeling like fall at all! Let’s take a little peek back at our stay and the wine dinner.

Obligatory wind mills shot. Everyone has some form of this photo …

rhode island – day two
October 14th, 2015 Mary, Rhode Island, Travel mary 4 Comments

More East Coast goodness! On our second day in Rhode Island, we roamed around to check out what Rhode Island had to offer. Let’s begin!

We wanted to start the day off with a hearty breakfast and headed to a place called the Modern Diner.
The look of the diner should seem familiar as the design was inspired by streamlined trains. Roland Stickney designed the diners to be the same shape as the trains back in 1939. This particular diner was built in 1940. …

bistro kaz
October 7th, 2015 Kearny Mesa, Mary, San Diego County mary 6 Comments

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to this spot – in fact, it’s been long enough that they’ve changed the name! Bistro Kaz used to be known as Ristorante Kaz. It’s in the same spot but they’ve got a nice big sign now instead of before… when they basically had no sign at all.
I was getting together with Laura for dinner before I left on my trip to the east coast. She had just gotten back from her summer trip …

double standard kitchenetta
July 24th, 2015 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County mary 6 Comments

Imagine it: Sunday afternoon. Downtown. Bright, sunny, few clouds here and there. Hot. Humid. Nice day to sit outside on the patio at a new-to-you restaurant. You’ve got your dog, your boys, and an afternoon of food ahead of you! Just ignore those deep dark clouds that keep rolling in for a moment. It won’t rain, right?
Yeah, we’ll get to that.
Last weekend I was invited to try out Double Standard Kitchenetta – a relative new joint down in Gaslamp. Previously this spot was …

bourre southern bistro
June 19th, 2015 Mary, Rolando, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

Last night Jake and I went out for a “just the two of us” dinner. Jake wanted to stay closeby, thwarting my original idea, but I picked something nearby that I had bookmarked on Yelp. It was a Southern style bistro serving creole food and the item that caught my eye on the menu was “blueberry cornbread”. Certain items catch my eye and make me want to try them immediately and that was the item for me! Off we went …

[revisit] chef john’s fish and chips

Earlier this month Jake wanted to check out a taco shop called Tacos Al Pastor over in the Lemon Grove/Spring Valley area. It was kind of in the middle of nowhere, in a tiny strip mall amongst a lot of houses. Sadly it was closed and Jake couldn’t realize the dream of trying out this tiny shop. Since I was getting to the point of no hunger return, we opted to go to a place we’d been before. A little …
