southpaw social club / downtown – san diego, ca
June 9th, 2014 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 14 Comments

I waited until the very last day to use my LivingSocial deal for Southpaw Social Club. Like the LAST DAY. LivingSocial put it into the “expired” section of the app and I freaked out a little but then I realized they probably don’t expire it by time so I knew the sucker was still good. Jake came with me as my cohort for this trip (not a surprise, I’m sure) and we enjoyed a nice evening out. Lucky for us …

isa.bella artisan pizzeria / clairemont – san diego, ca
April 24th, 2014 Clairemont, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 13 Comments

I couldn’t decide where we should go for our anniversary. With our upcoming trip to Florida (we leave Sunday!!!), we’ve been trying to cut back a little on eating out to save money for the trip. I suggested that I should make dinner to which Jake replied, “You always make dinner. Why don’t I make it?” A day or so later he suggested we check out Isa.bella Pizzeria since a) I mentioned there was a LivingSocial deal for it, b) …

mr. peabody’s bar & grill / encinitas, ca
April 14th, 2014 Encinitas, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

Mr. Peabody’s is a cool little dive bar/grill in Encinitas, CA that I was invited to check out last week. It’s tuckered into a strip mall right off the freeway at Encinitas Blvd. It’s kind of hard to spot since the sign doesn’t really stand out and it’s way back in the lot, but it’s worth a visit to this semi-hidden spot!

They got some sweet happy hour deals as well as Daily Specials plus live entertainment nearly every evening. You …

rocky’s crown pub / pacific beach – san diego, ca
December 17th, 2013 Cheap Eats, Mary, Pacific Beach, San Diego County Mary Desjean 10 Comments

I’ve been wanting to take Jake here for a long ass time and a few weeks ago I was finally able to take him! We tried to go a few times this week, mistakenly making the attempt on the weekend or during prime sports game viewing periods. These are NOT the ideal times to go since Rocky’s is not a big place. We ended up going one Wednesday evening after Jake’s first league softball game (his team’s name? Ball Busters. …

lunching with co-workers
November 27th, 2013 etc, Mary, Mira Mesa, Miramar, San Diego County Mary Desjean 4 Comments

Since it’s been awhile since I took some of these photos, I must come to the conclusion I’ll never do a “proper” full-fledged post. And since I’m feeling lazy before the big start of the holidays, you get this mis-match of photos and little stories of a few places I visited with my co-workers.
On Friday’s I give my co-workers a choice between two places – usually places I really want to visit or sound interesting to me. Here’s a few …

lazy dog restaurant and bar / mission valley – san diego, ca

Lazy Dog Restaurant and Bar opened up in Mission Valley over the summer. It is a part of a Southern California chain and this is the first location to open in San Diego. I was recently invited to come in and check it out for myself. Jake and Maya both got to come with me and we were able to check out the dog-friendly patio at this huge location!

[chicken wings]
We started the night off with some chicken wings in a …

devil’s share whiskey release party at eureka!
September 18th, 2013 La Jolla, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 4 Comments

Last month I was invited to Ballast Point’s release party for their very first whiskey called Devil’s Share! The release party took place at Eureka! in UTC.

You can totally bet that I was singing “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket” when I given this! I managed to not dance around though and sadly, there was no chocolate involved. But there was whiskey! And beer! And appetizers. Mmm.

Stacey was my cohort for the evening since when I think of whiskey, I think …

taco tuesday at ballast point / scripps ranch – san diego, ca
June 24th, 2013 Mary, San Diego County, Scripps Ranch Mary Desjean 10 Comments

Taco Tuesdays are a huge thing here in San Diego. It usually means a special deal on mini tacos at various taco shops and bars around town. But at Ballast Point Brewery in Scripps Ranch they’re doing things a little differently with Root Cellar Catering Co. The tacos here  are all made with different Ballast Point beers, putting a unique twist on the typical taco.

Root Cellar Catering Co. is a husband and wife team (Jamie and Marie) who have put …
