I got two more Vegas posts left in me! Actually, three, but Jake is supposed to write the other one since it’s basically his whole experience and not really mine. But that’s for the future (are you curious yet?). For now… let’s peek at more Chinese food!
I always want to eat things I can’t get at home and excellent Chinese food is something that is seriously lacking in San Diego. I didn’t even realize until recently that Las Vegas even …

Back in 2012, my friends and I went to a little place inside of a hair salon (yes, you read that right) called Great Bao. They were kicked out of the salon shortly after our visit and I’ve kept tabs on them over the years. When we decided to go to Vegas again, I tried to see if they got a new location and I was very happy to see them up and running in a proper restaurant under a …

wang’s north park

Recently I was invited to check out Wang’s North Park, an Asian-American-Chinese fusion kind of place over in hipster North Park. I took Jake, T, and Carin (Jake’s mom) with me to the dinner. We went pretty early on a Saturday, right when they opened, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Wang’s North Park is situated in a gigantic open space that used to JC Penney way, way back in the day. There are two levels of seating …

dim sum at pearl chinese / san diego

Last month I finally got to try out “sit down with the carts” dim sum for the first time with Faye of Faye’s Fork and Lynn of Oh-So-Yummy at Pearl Chinese. We met up on a Saturday and sat at a big, round table to start stuffing delicious dim sum into our mouths. Sounds like the perfect Saturday to me!

Pearl Chinese is up in Rancho Bernardo and has this beautiful pond/lake in the back area next to the Doubletree Inn. I …

qt pot / mira mesa
December 24th, 2014 Mary, Mira Mesa, San Diego County mary 6 Comments

QT Pot opened in Mira Mesa earlier this year. I went for my first visit with my co-workers back in September and finally remembered to make a revisit last week to try some of their other items.

On one side of their menu it’s all hot pots! They all vary a little.

And the other side has appetizers and more “regular” Chinese food plus grilled meats on a stick! I like food on a stick.

[house special pot / $9.50 – lunch price]

la dumpling crawl

Two weekends ago we embarked on yet another food crawl. This crawl’s theme? DUMPLINGS.
Now, while I love dumplings and I love San Diego, San Diego has a serious lack of delicious dumplings so we headed north to Los Angeles for a dumpling crawl. Sorry, San Diego. I still love you.
The following dumplings are in order of visitation. I’ll give you the low-down on the numbers and statistics at the end of this post (or you can skip to end if …

beijing wok and grill / fountain valley, ca

Jake suggested after we got the donuts that we could just call it a day and go home and NOT get Chinese food. I gave him the most withering look I could muster. As if! OF COURSE we need to try another Chinese place. Pfffft. It’s all in the name of research for you, my friends.
My choice for this trip was a place called Beijing Wok and Grill which was a pretty quick drive from the Donuttery. Beijing Wok and …
