nomad donuts

I think you know by now that I’m kind of a donut fiend. I’ve been to many donuts shops around town and even make it a point to visit donut shops in other towns. I’m slightly wary about the “gourmet” donuts that have popped up in San Diego (for the record, I’m not a Donut Bar fan – sorry) so maybe I was a bit reluctant to try some of the newer places. I finally stopped into Nomad Donuts over …

morongo valley cafe

On the last day of our desert trip, I wanted to get up early to see the sunrise. Well… more like I accidentally got up early and figured, “Might as well go watch the sunrise since I’m awake.” The light starting filtering into the bedroom quite early and woke me up!

Someone else didn’t quite wake up as early as I did but I figured she was the easiest one to wake up.

“Can’t I have five more minutes?”

I went right outside …

the jelly donut & sky village swap meet / yucca valley, ca

The really nice part about our trip was how leisurely it felt. We had no plans, really. There were a few things I wanted to see but mostly we just played it by ear. After spending a cozy night in the little house, I got up before the boys, had some coffee, and then made breakfast.

We had leftover flap steak, eggs with ricotta + other cheeses with fresh basil, Parmesan polenta, and sourdough toast.

I made extra polenta so we could have …

breakfast at nate’s garden grill

On Mother’s Day this year, Jake wanted to take Carin out for breakfast to Tobey’s 19th Hole but Carin dropped a hint that she would like to go to Nate’s Garden Grill. She had never been there and it’s very close to Jake’s house, so we figured we’d drive by and see how busy it was and use Tobey’s as the backup plan. The place was not busy at all, lucky for us! Nate’s Garden Grill is located inside the …

breakfast quesadillas

I made these for Sunday morning: Breakfast Quesadillas. I actually got the idea from a Pinterest post about breakfast burritos but I didn’t look hard enough in Jake’s kitchen to see there were big tortillas. All I saw were the little corn taco sized one and on the fly it went from breakfast burritos to breakfast tacos to breakfast quesadillas since I realized tacos would probably fall apart in the pan. I really wanted that crispy outside edge and quesadillas would be easier to heat up that way.

trader joe’s spring edition finds
April 10th, 2015 Mary, products mary 6 Comments

Time for more Trader Joe’s finds! I’ll call it the “Spring Edition”. These items are mostly new to me, not necessarily new for spring. But it is spring now, so Spring Edition it is!

CC of Pink Candles at Ridgemont High alerted me to the fact that Danish Kringles were back at Trader Joe’s. I was totally bummed I missed out on them last year (around Christmas they had almond kringles and there were pumpkin kringles in the Fall). I was excited to try the …

cueva bar

Over at Cueva Bar in University Heights, Chef Oz has a special thing going for Saturdays. He calls it “Saturday Lunching”, a time to encourage his patrons to slow down, take it easy, hang out and enjoy your friends, family and especially the food. I was recently invited in to check out the Saturday lunching menu.

The day we visited Cueva Bar was a very, very hot day – somewhere in the 90’s. It was refreshing and cool to step into …
