tobey’s 19th hole

This is a resurrected post from when I wrote about Tobey’s 19th Hole for a local San Diego site back in the day (2012, to be exact). I didn’t realize I still had the text and photos lurking around in my Google docs, so here’s a “blast from the past” article that CC encouraged me to repost (thanks, CC!). I had a few extra photos that I threw in as well. Please note, the prices may have changed since this …

snooze am eatery / del mar, ca

Recently I was invited to come back and check out Snooze AM Eatery. Snooze AM Eatery originally opened a location in Hillcrest (which we visited!) but there’s a newer spot in Del Mar as well. Their roots are in Denver and I’m glad they made the trek out West since their breakfast items are totally delicious.

We went on the morning of the Super Bowl so while it looked crowded to us, our waitress told us it was actually “slow” for them. …

cracker barrel + a tiny church in yuma, az

A spontaneous boyfriend and low gas prices prompted a mini road trip last month to Yuma, AZ. Why Yuma and why Arizona, you might ask? Mostly it was so I could finally try Cracker Barrel, a chain “down home cooking” restaurant present in many states but not California. Jake and T has tried it last year when they went to Aspen so it was finally my turn. I know, it’s just a chain restaurant but I was still curious!

We rolled …

portland, oregon – day four (last day)
February 4th, 2015 Mary, Portland / Oregon, Road Trips mary 4 Comments

We’ve finally gotten to our last day in Portland! And this post will be all food! The majority of our day was spent checking out a few final foodie spots and we spend a good chunk of time at the Crafty Wonderland craft fair at the convention center, picking up little goodies for presents to bring back home. Let’s check out what Jake, T and I ate on our last day in Portland.
1) Tasty n Sons

Our last breakfast in Portland …

national blueberry pancakes day
January 28th, 2015 Mary, Recipes mary 4 Comments

It’s amazing how many foodie related “holidays” there are. For instance, today is National Blueberry Pancakes Day and I wonder, is there a Cheetos day, or is it only recipes? And also, why only blueberry pancakes today? Is there an apple cinnamon pancake day, too? Or a dutch baby pancake day? I’m sure Google could answer all of these questions for me but I think it’s best to just let them drift into the void and wonder, like when we …

portland, oregon – day three recap
January 23rd, 2015 Mary, Portland / Oregon, Road Trips mary 6 Comments

Welcome to Portland again, dear friends, as we explore and recap the third day of our trip. It’s a bit of doozy with the photos!
1) Stepping Stone Cafe

I will admit that the Stepping Stone Cafe did not initially make my itinerary. Jake and I watched an old episode of Man v. Food before our trip and Jake really wanted to go here. So I fit it in. Aren’t I a nice girlfriend? (Just nod and say yes.)

This is part of …

le parfait paris
December 3rd, 2014 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County mary 8 Comments

I was recently invited to check out Le Parfait Paris, a recent addition to Downtown San Diego. This cafe is actually their second location, with their primary location in Mission Valley. They’ve got an awesome open air feel with this new spot. Tables are on the sidewalk for maximum people watching and to enjoy our usually beautiful weather. Very European!

Jake, T and I visited on a recent Saturday morning and managed to park right in front of the cafe! This …

[recipe] coconut, ube and mango overnight oats with noosa yogurt
November 21st, 2014 Mary, Recipes mary 8 Comments

Noosa Yoghurt is currently my most favorite yogurt (yoghurt!) ever so I was pretty thrilled when they wanted to work with me to create a recipe using Noosa Yoghurt. They have all of these dreamy flavors and it was a little hard to decide just which ONE yogurt I wanted to focus on.

In the end I decided to use the Coconut Noosa Yoghurt and did a little twist on Overnight Oats using tropical Filipino flavors such as coconut, ube (purple …
