[recipe] coconut, ube and mango overnight oats with noosa yogurt
November 21st, 2014 Mary, Recipes mary 8 Comments

Noosa Yoghurt is currently my most favorite yogurt (yoghurt!) ever so I was pretty thrilled when they wanted to work with me to create a recipe using Noosa Yoghurt. They have all of these dreamy flavors and it was a little hard to decide just which ONE yogurt I wanted to focus on.

In the end I decided to use the Coconut Noosa Yoghurt and did a little twist on Overnight Oats using tropical Filipino flavors such as coconut, ube (purple …

[recipe] pumpkin chocolate chip pecan bread
November 12th, 2014 Mary, Recipes mary 2 Comments

Back in the day when Mira Mesa still had a Ralph’s instead of the mega H-Mart, I would pop into Ralph’s in the fall to pick up some of the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. They were like one of the bakery items that I always loved to get at Ralph’s and I never really tried to make it on my own. Since Ralph’s is no one near me now and I don’t think it’s worth it enough to drive to …

salt’s cure / los angeles

The day after Catalina and Mozza fun, Jake and I met up with Heather for what I will now call “The Perfect Breakfast”. Why the Perfect Breakfast? Because every single thing we had was incredibly delicious. You know usually you like one thing more than another, or one thing tasted kinda “meh” and there was one stand out dish. Not here. Everything. Was. Delicious. So delicious that I had to put each word as it’s own sentence.

The place where we …

hanna’s gourmet / university heights

Alyssa was in town for a mini weekend visit and I met her and the family for breakfast at Hanna’s Gourmet, a spot I’ve been eyeing for a revisit for quite awhile. I visited Hanna’s Gourmet earlier this year with a few other bloggers and this was our dessert spot that day. I’m happy I got to come back to try out their other food.

Hanna’s Gourmet specializes in doing “World Tour” foods and that week they were doing the Philippines! …

Last week I was up quite early to take my folks to the airport. 4:30AM to be exact. By the time I got back home I felt pretty awake and decided to get ready and then take myself out for breakfast. I hadn’t visited Claire’s on Cedros since 2011 and I had a strong urge for their pancakes again.

[coffee / $3]
It was quite early and I decided to get coffee for some reason, which was kind of a dumb idea …

Howdy folks. It’s Monday again. MINION MONDAY. I love this whole “let someone else write for Monday” thing.

Tucked in near the Del Mar Horse Park, Cafe Cantata sits at the forefront of the recently revamped Flower Hill Promenade. Though we weren’t on our way to play with the ponies, Allison and I were both …

mini breakfast pizzas on pretzel rolls
September 12th, 2014 Mary, Recipes mary 4 Comments

Happy Friday aka Happy Pre-Weekend! I feel like I’ve been waiting all week for this day to come around. Let’s reminisce about some food I made last weekend. Specifically breakfast food. Pizza breakfast food. Mini pizza breakfast food. On pretzel rolls. Yesssss.
Originally I was going to do these on English muffins but Jake and I had bought 4 soft pretzel sticks at Trader Joe’s and they were begging to be used. I had to indulge them.

I really like the mini …

civil war days + the donuttery / huntington beach, ca

This was our third year attending the Civil War Reenactment in Huntington Beach. It’s held every year over Labor Day weekend and is sponsored by the City of Huntington Beach. It’s one of the free reenactments you can attend. You can learn so much about our country’s history by watching the battle and talking with many of the living historians attending the event. Here’s my recap of this year’s reenactment (plus, donuts at the end).

I have never really thought about …
