the patio on lamont street / pacific beach

I was recently invited to come and check out The Patio on Lamont Street (there are actually two locations now, the other in Mission Hills). Jake was originally supposed to go with me, but he ended up having to work, so I took my parents and Maya with me.

This is a view of the patio area later in the evening when with the lights lit up. It gave the area a wonderful warmth!

There was also an …

laser tag and ocean rainbow ice cream / oceanside

T recently had a birthday (SIXTEEN!) and we had a weekend of all “Stuff T Wants To Do”. Actually, the laser tag was what he wanted to do and the ice cream was what I wanted to do. But it seemed silly to say “Mostly Stuff T Wants To Do”. But he ate some ice cream, so we’ll count it as some other stuff he wanted to do.
We started the day by going to Tip Top Meats for all-you-can-eat-meats breakfast. …

zpizza party + a giveaway
August 25th, 2014Mary, Multiple Locations, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 8 Comments

zpizza recently invited me to have a pizza party in my own house (or in this case, Jake’s house) and I gladly accepted. (A night of no dishes, woo!) zpizza wanted to showcase a few new pizzas from their tasting kitchen. These are all experimental pizzas that might be making it onto their menu soon. Let’s see what they brought over and after you read this, you can enter a little giveaway (or… you can skip to the end. It’s …

umami burger / hermosa beach

After the Crave Expo, we realized we were in Los Angeles. Just before 5PM… at the height of the dreaded rush hour. A peek at Google maps confirmed that traffic was horrendous and we were pretty much stuck… so Jake decided to just drive. I eventually stopped looking at Google maps and tried to just “enjoy the ride” and not let my controlling side take over. We eventually ended up in Venice Beach and then hit the 101 and started …

rubio’s california bowl / utc

While I’ve lived in San Diego for more than a decade, I had my first fish taco when a Rubio’s opened up in the mid-90’s in my hometown of Rancho Cucamonga. Yes, that city actually exists and, no, it’s not like that movie Next Friday with Ice Cube. Well, most of it at least, but that’s a story for another time.

wienerschnitzel hot dogs

Ah, Wienerschnitzel. I hadn’t been here in years and two things converged to bring me here last weekend: 1) I got some gift cards from a PR person and 2) They were having a 61 cents anniversary special. Let’s do this.

The familiar steeple A frame is still present in all of the Wienerschnitzel’s in San Diego. I totally associate this look with hot dogs.

The menu. They don’t just have hot dogs anymore! There’s also a variety of chili burgers and …

richard walker’s pancake house / la jolla – san diego, ca

Richard Walker’s Pancake House has recently expanded in San Diego. The original location is in Downtown and a new spot just opened up in Downtown La Jolla. I was recently invited to come in and check out the new location and try out some of their tasty breakfast items.

Jake and I don’t dine too often in La Jolla since parking can be a pain and it’s usually crowded around here. We managed to snag parking in our go-to parking area …

new york buffalo wings & ribs / la mesa – san diego, ca

Last weekend I had a craving for some wings. I don’t know why, but lately I’ve been craving wings left and right. I also only like the “wing” part. I’ll eat a drumette if that’s all that’s left but I’d much rather eat the wing. You keep those drumettes to yourself and we’ll be good. I use Yelp a lot to find places but I always take the reviews with a grain of salt. Just because something’s popular doesn’t necessarily …
