liberty public market | liberty station

A couple of weekends ago, Jake and I had a little afternoon to ourselves. T was off at baseball practice and we decided to see a movie (Zootopia! It was super cute!) and then head over to the Liberty Public Market for a little afternoon lunch. The market hasn’t been opened for too long but we were able to snag a parking spot pretty close to the market.

This is the front sign which faces the Corvette Diner side of Liberty …

the cafe at harrah’s rincon casino | valley center

Last week it was Spring Break for Jake and T. To “celebrate”,  my folks got us a free room at Harrah’s Rincon Casino and we had a staycation. The resort is far enough away to feel like you’re out of town, but still close enough to home. On our first night we decided to have dinner at The Cafe at Harrah’s Rincon – one of the sit down restaurants at the resort casino.

Harrah’s is pretty kid-friendly as well, though the kids still are not allowed to …

pernicano’s

Pasta! There are not a ton of Italian restaurants up in the Mira Mesa area and one evening when Laura came over to hang out with me (so we could watch some Downton Abbey together) she was in the mood for pasta. Pernicano’s came to mind after considering the other nearby options. Pernicano’s is new to the area, though there are other locations in town. It’s located just off Mercy Road, across from the KFC and in the same lot …

crest cafe
December 21st, 2015 Hillcrest, Mary, San Diego County Mary 2 Comments

A few weeks ago I was invited to head down to Crest Cafe for a blogger dinner – complete with a van ride thanks to the fine folks from The DD (Drunk Driver) Van Service. Van ride = I don’t have to try and search for parking in Hillcrest = score for me!

I once went to the family owned Crest Cafe many years ago. I think I had a burger there and sat in one of the booths in the …

bistro kaz

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to this spot – in fact, it’s been long enough that they’ve changed the name! Bistro Kaz used to be known as Ristorante Kaz. It’s in the same spot but they’ve got a nice big sign now instead of before… when they basically had no sign at all.
I was getting together with Laura for dinner before I left on my trip to the east coast. She had just gotten back from her summer trip …

bice ristorante
September 23rd, 2015 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County Mary 10 Comments

Last month on a nice, bright sunny afternoon, Jake, T and I went Downtown. Normally I avoid Downtown like the plague but I’ve found that daytime trips to Downtown really aren’t that bad. We were heading to a Padres vs Cardinals game that evening and scored excellent parking right across the street from Petco Park. Since we were there about four hours before the game, parking was HELLA CHEAP. We paid $8 TOTAL and netted ourselves a $1/hr parking fee. SCORE. …

bencotto + a failed dessert outing

I’ve been to Monello a couple of times but hadn’t yet tried the other restaurant, Bencotto, which is right next door. Bencotto is like the older brother restaurant. It’s a little more “fine dining” than Monello. Last Saturday Jake and I decided to sell our Padres tickets for that evening since it was just TOO HOT to go and sit in the sun for several hours. Dinner in Little Italy sounded like a way better idea. We also went early like old folks so …
