[recipe] easy one pot tomato basil pasta
April 8th, 2014Mary, Recipesmary 8 Comments

A couple of weeks ago I saw this recipe floating around on Facebook about a one pot pasta meal – you put the noodles and EVERYTHING together in one pot and cook it and VIOLA – instant dinner. No having to make a separate sauce or cooking the noodles in another pot and all that jazz. I saved the recipe because I was curious to try it out and see how it went. I was a little skeptical that this …

romesco mexiterranean bistro / bonita, ca
February 13th, 2014Bonita, Mary, San Diego Countymary 4 Comments

My original interest in Romesco Mexiterranean Bistro was that I had seen them on Eater 38 San Diego list. And then I saw a coupon deal for them on LivingSocial (or something similar) which I bought and Jake, S. and I went for dinner one evening in late December. I didn’t have my regular camera with me at the time, only my iPhone!

monello / little italy – san diego, ca

Last month my old friend, Sarah, was in town for a short visit. Sarah is one of my oldest friends, who I’ve known since the ripe old age of 10. She was staying overnight in Little Italy and so I chose a spot nearby, a place I’ve been wanting to try forever: Monello! This was originally supposed to be our last stop on the Cheese Crawl, but we were all too full to go to another restaurant.
Jake was a little …

mamma teresa / poway – san diego, ca
November 20th, 2013Mary, Poway, San Diego Countymary 6 Comments

This post is long over due since Jake and I came here in early October! I almost skipped doing it all together because the photos are kind of crappy, but whatever. You need to know about this place!
Mamma Teresa doesn’t look like much. It’s right off Poway Rd. and Community Rd., in the shopping center where the DMV used to be. That’s the DMV where I failed my driver’s test TWICE. Yes, twice. I’m a bit of a dork, in …

[recipe + reivew] smoky bacon pasta w/ gustus vitae smoked sea salt
August 9th, 2013Mary, products, Recipesmary 2 Comments

Earlier this summer, I received a few of these Gustus Vitae Condiments on my doorstep to try:

I’ve used the “Taste of Cajun” blend a couple of times for things like steak rub, rib rubs and on top of pan fried pork chops. But… I didn’t take any photos of those adventures. I assure you it is a delicious blend of Cajun-like flavors without being hot. It’s flavor baby, not heat! You could make it all hot and steamy with some …

meatball cucina / downtown – san diego, ca

I was invited not too long ago to head Downtown to check out a new restaurant called Meatball Cucina. It’s not even in the Gaslamp Quarter, where every other restaurant in Downtown seems to be. It’s right across from American Plaza/Santa Fe Depot. Their website mentions free parking after 5PM in the parking garage right next door to the building, so that makes it much more convenient to get to than I originally score. Score for parking Downtown!

Things I loved …

clementine gourment marketplace & cafe / palm desert, ca

Jake and I stayed in Palm Springs only one night – so after a very peaceful and restful night at the Riviera, we got started early to try and beat the heat of the day. Originally we went over to a place called Cheeky’s in Downtown Palm Springs, but the prospect of waiting for an hour in the ever-increasing heat was a big turn off for me. We ditched those plans and made our way back down to Palm Desert. …

let’s go on an asparagus journey / noodles & company – la jolla, ca

Earlier this month I was invited to Noodles & Company to try an “Asparagus Feast” at their restaurant. As someone who enjoys the flavor and taste of asparagus, I was more than happy to take them up on their offer. It was a little harder though to find some cohorts to join me in this endeavor though. Apparently a lot of my friends don’t dig asparagus for some reason. This baffles me like people’s dislike of mushrooms baffles me. Y’all …

about this site

My name is Mary and I live in San Diego. I've been blogging since 2006 as a hobby - it's my fun, creative outlet! Some random things about me: I'm a front end web developer, I love peanut butter, cookies, warm cupcakes, puppy noses, star gazing, new bags of sugar, sprinkles, cupcake wrappers, egg rolls, eating french fries with ice cream, driving with the windows down, snuggling, wes anderson movies, staying up too late reading a good book and Jake. These are my adventures in all things food. Hope you enjoy the ride.
