lucky’s golden phenix restaurant [revisit]

It’s been over four years since I posted about Lucky’s Golden Phenix Restaurant back in 2011.

I’m happy to report not a whole lot has changed. Jake and I brought T here for breakfast one recent Saturday morning. It wasn’t too crowded in the restaurant and it didn’t take long for Lucky to swing by and say hi to us.

A few things on the wall have been added or swapped out but the rest of it looks about the same.

cruisers malt shoppe / gardner, ma
September 18th, 2015 Mary, Massachusetts, Travel mary 2 Comments

On the morning of my cousin’s wedding, we all went out for breakfast to a local diner called Cruisers Malt Shoppe.

Cruisers Malt Shoppe is a cute little diner in a corner spot in downtown Gardner, MA. The outside has some cool murals on it!

And inside Cruisers Malt Shoppe there’s a lot of neat, old decor. There’s a heavy focus on Coca-Cola related products plus lots of old records and car stuff.

It feels very much like a 1950’s Americana diner in …

perry’s cafe / old town
August 8th, 2014 Mary, Old Town, San Diego County mary 11 Comments

I was up quite early one morning last week to drop my folks off at the airport. I decided to treat myself to a little early morning breakfast before work. It was a little after 6am and the sun hadn’t fully popped out yet. It was odd being up and about that early.

I decided to hit up Perry’s Cafe in Old Town. I hadn’t visited in many years and when I did it was late on a Saturday morning when …

my diner / boston, ma

Earlier this month I traveled to Massachusetts for a quick trip with my parents to attend my grandfather’s funeral. While it was a somber occasion and reason, it was nice to be able to get back East for a quick trip, to see my family, and to celebrate my grandfather’s life.
We took an overnight red eye flight and got into Boston around 6:30AM. Logan International hadn’t quite fully awakened by the time we got off the plane, but the first …

Back to Big Bear posts!

The next day when we woke up after arriving in Big Bear, there was a nice dusting of snow everywhere.

My shiny car got it’s first layer of snow as well! After a little breakfast, we headed out to explore a bit of the area.

There was lots of pretty scenery and lovely trees everywhere. We tried to visit the Discovery Center and the Park Ranger station but they were both closed that day. We ended up just …

Sidenote: I’ve put up an image/link on ways to help the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan (or Yolanda, as referred to in the Philippines) in my sidebar. I visited Tacloban City as a child and cannot imagine the devastation that’s happening there in the aftermath of the typhoon. We have heard through the grapevine that our immediate family is okay and can only hope that continues to be the case. If you can donate anything, please do! Okay, back to blogging…

lemon grove deli / lemon grove – san diego, ca
August 20th, 2012 Lemon Grove, Mary, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

The Lemon Grove Deli is a little restaurant that’s nestled in the heart of Lemon Grove. It’s in amongst the many little shops and businesses in Downtown Lemon Grove, near the trolley station. The Lemon Grove Deli serves up some mean breakfast and then also does sandwiches in the afternoons. You can stop by on Sunday and get breakfast until 2PM – which is what Jake and I did on a recent weekend.
This is one of my “adventures in groupons!” …
