double standard kitchenetta
July 24th, 2015 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County mary 6 Comments

Imagine it: Sunday afternoon. Downtown. Bright, sunny, few clouds here and there. Hot. Humid. Nice day to sit outside on the patio at a new-to-you restaurant. You’ve got your dog, your boys, and an afternoon of food ahead of you! Just ignore those deep dark clouds that keep rolling in for a moment. It won’t rain, right?
Yeah, we’ll get to that.
Last weekend I was invited to try out Double Standard Kitchenetta – a relative new joint down in Gaslamp. Previously this spot was …

davanti enoteca
July 22nd, 2015 Del Mar, Mary, San Diego County mary 8 Comments

One recent evening, Laura and I went out for a girl’s night while Jake was off working at Comic Con. We made an evening of by going to the AMC Theater in La Jolla to sit in those fancy red recliners. I didn’t know it, but they have a 21+ area in the theater now where you can get your booze on while watching Magic Mike XXL or Ant-Man or something. We didn’t partake, though. I was too afraid to …

pizzarev

PizzaRev is one of the latest “Make Your Own Pizza” places to pop up in San Diego. It’s similar to restaurants such as Project Pie, Blaze Pizza, Pieology Pizzeria, Pizza Studio, and Social Life Pizza. Basically, these places are the “Subway” of Pizza. I always find it interesting when one concept comes into town and sets up shop, there’s sure to be a bunch more to follow! I recently went to visit the Scripps Ranch location of PizzaRev after a …

anniversary dinner at toast enoteca & cucina

Jake and I recently celebrated our 8th anniversary! EIGHT. E-I-G-H-T. It is crazy how fast time flies by. When Jake and I started dating, his youngest son (S) was only four years old! And S will be 13 this year! Holy crazy cakes, Batman.
Jake and I have been through a lot of ups and downs but I feel like the last few years have been more ups overall which makes me quite happy. I wouldn’t change anything and everything …

saturday morning at the little italy farmers market

Last weekend while Jake was coaching his little league game, I decided to go and finally check out the Little Italy Farmers Market. I got there about 9AM, before the crowds (and the heat!) arrived. I was able to mill about, eat lots of samples, and finally get a little taste of breakfast at Monello.

This juicing booth was one of the first places I passed by. I’ve been drinking a lot of veggie juices in the morning so I was immediately …

gino’s pizzeria featuring the philadelphia sandwich co.

Gino’s Pizzeria Featuring The Philadelphia Sandwich Co. (isn’t that a mouthful) is a new spot to the Miramar area, behind the Denny’s on Miramar Road. They put together Gino’s Pizza and added the Philadelphia Sandwich Co. into the shop. The Philadelphia Sandwich Co. used to be located off Convoy Street near the Original Pancake House. Gino’s took over a place called Dino’s that served pizza and Italian sandwiches. I visited Dino’s a few times and always thought the place needed …

blaze pizza

Some PR peeps for Blaze Pizza sent me some coupons forever ago to try it out the pizza here and I finally got around to it. There’s a location up in far away Carlsbad, one in Encinitas and a newer spot that’s in the Balboa/Genesee area. We tried to go one Saturday evening and quickly realized that Saturday evening was NOT the time to go since the line was out the door. Holy cow. When did Clairemont get to be …
