pizza rock / las vegas
November 26th, 2014 Las Vegas, Mary, Road Trips mary 0 Comments

Food Fight Write was an amazing conference and the first food blogger conference I ever attended. I drove into Vegas with my parents (who are retired and can pretty much go on a trip on a whim) so I wouldn’t have to do the drive alone.

On the way to Vegas I snapped this photo of my favorite road sign. …

cucina basilico

This past weekend I had wanted to go check out Chicken Charlie’s new restaurant, but a quick overview of some recent reviews made me think twice about it and I decided that we would wait until they worked out some of their kinks. Instead I turned to browsing through my Entertainment Book to see if there were any decent coupons to use and that’s how I found Cucina Basilico.

Coupon love. <3
I did a little bit of research and found the reviews …

osteria mozza / los angeles

After we spend the day in Catalina, we made our way towards Hollywood to check in to our seedy motel (at least the parking was free…) and then off we went to meet Alyssa for dinner at Osteria Mozza. Osteria Mozza is like the fine dining version of Pizzeria Mozza, owned by the same group of people: Nancy Silverton, Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich. My particular interest in Osteria Mozza was that I heard they have a Mozzarella Bar and …

you be the chef cooking class at mia francesca
October 3rd, 2014 Del Mar, Mary, San Diego County mary 8 Comments

Last week I was invited to attend a cooking class at Mia Francecsa in Del Mar. It’s right across from the fancy pants Cinepolis movie theater (which I have always wanted to visit but haven’t yet). I haven’t attended a cooking class since the summer so I was excited to go and check it out.

The cooking class took place in Mia Francesca’s private back room. For $50, Chef Woody Benitez takes you through a five course (!!) meal. Four of the …

pizzeria mozza / downtown san diego

After we got sugared up from Frost Me Gourmet Cupcakes, we headed over to Pizzeria Mozza for some lunch. I’ve been wanting to visit Pizzeria Mozza since they opened last year, but I heard they had some trouble working out the kinks. Since they’re now listed in the Eater San Diego 38, I figured they had finally worked everything out and it was time to visit.

Here’s their menu, which you can click to enlarge and read in it’s full glory.

italianissimo trattoria / chula vista, ca
September 16th, 2014 Chula Vista, Mary, San Diego County mary 8 Comments

It’s been insanely hot around San Diego all weekend. Last Friday night Jake, T and I went to the cheap theater down in Chula Vista to escape the heat of his house (we went to see The Hundred Foot Journey; while not the greatest movie I’ve ever seen, I did enjoy it and it did manage to make me quite hungry). After the movie it was getting to be a little late and a quick search on Yelp showed me …

zpizza party + a giveaway

zpizza recently invited me to have a pizza party in my own house (or in this case, Jake’s house) and I gladly accepted. (A night of no dishes, woo!) zpizza wanted to showcase a few new pizzas from their tasting kitchen. These are all experimental pizzas that might be making it onto their menu soon.

solare ristorante / liberty station

I was recently invited to dine at Solare Ristorante in Liberty Station. Jake and I visited Solare many moons ago and didn’t have a really great experience back then, but I was happy to give them another shot to see how they are doing now.

When we arrived, the hostess asked where we wanted to sit (indoors or outdoors). Jake wanted to sit outside but it felt a little too muggy to me, so I choose indoors. The hostess asked if …
