pizzeria mozza / downtown san diego
September 22nd, 2014 Downtown, Mary, Multiple Locations, San Diego County Mary Desjean 10 Comments

After we got sugared up from Frost Me Gourmet Cupcakes, we headed over to Pizzeria Mozza for some lunch. I’ve been wanting to visit Pizzeria Mozza since they opened last year, but I heard they had some trouble working out the kinks. Since they’re now listed in the Eater San Diego 38, I figured they had finally worked everything out and it was time to visit.

Here’s their menu, which you can click to enlarge and read in it’s full glory.

food truck lunches at my urban eats and the pierogi truck
September 17th, 2014 Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 10 Comments

Am I sick of food trucks yet? Apparently not. I visited two food trucks last week just for kicks.

The first one was My Urban Eats. My love of green made me love the look of this truck right away. And I love the font they use. I kind of feel like the chicken is eyeballing me though.

This is the menu. I believe they change things up every few months or so. Keeping it in season! The thing that caught my …

roadem bbq / kearny mesa
September 3rd, 2014 Kearny Mesa, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 16 Comments

Jake is actually the one who discovered this place and tried it before me – an all you can eat Korean BBQ spot over off Convoy called Roadem BBQ. He’s visited a few times and I suggested we go one recent Saturday for lunch. Korean BBQ sounded like a mighty fine idea to me.
For lunch they have three different priced menus.

Menu A is only $11.99 (click to enlarge).

Menu B is $15.99. You get two extra beefy items with this one …

el rodeo mexican food / city heights
September 2nd, 2014 Cheap Eats, City Heights, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 6 Comments

One afternoon Jake and I were running around doing a few errands and needed a quick bite to eat. The first place we tried to go wasn’t open (a new place on University Ave. called Happy Rooster – how awesome is that name?) and Jake picked this second spot – a Mexican place on El Cajon Blvd. called El Rodeo Mexican Food.

It’s one of the many places that line El Cajon Blvd. and is pretty close to Hoover High School. …

peppertree frosty / vista
July 21st, 2014 Cheap Eats, Mary, San Diego County, Vista Mary Desjean 10 Comments

Two weekend ago when I wasn’t feeling very well, Jake and S were over and I decided that the only thing I really wanted to do that weekend was take a trip up to Vista to try out Pepper Tree Frosty and Danny’s Donuts. I read about Danny’s Donuts and Pepper Tree Corner on Pink Candles of Ridgemont High. CC wrote about their awesome blueberry donuts (post forthcoming) and I also wanted to try the food over at Pepper Tree …

mamma lina’s / mira mesa – san diego, ca

I last wrote about Mamma Lina’s back in 2009 – man, that was like FIVE years ago! I found this place while I was still at my old job and now that my current job moved closer to Sorrento Valley, Mamma Lina’s has been back in my regular lunch rotation. Things have change a bit recently.
There used to be this huge hedge that made it hard to see the deli:

They’ve removed that and …

revisit to woody’s burger / miramar – san diego, ca
April 30th, 2014 Mary, Miramar, San Diego County Mary Desjean 2 Comments

I hadn’t visited Woody’s Burgers since last year when we had a uh… not so great experience with the food. I was recently invited to come back in and give Woody’s Burgers another shot – and I dragged my co-workers David and Matt along for the ride since they were with me during the first visit!

The menu looked to be about the same as our last visit.

These aren’t listed on the actual menu, but every table has this list of …

[recipe] avocado orange and tomato salad
April 28th, 2014 Mary, Recipes Mary Desjean 4 Comments

Recently I was eating lunch at home with Maya and watching Ina Garten do her thing in the Hamptons. On this particular episode she was making an Avocado and Grapefruit salad which immediately piqued my interest. Avocado and fruit and a vinaigrette, that’s it?! Laura was coming over to join me for dinner that night and I thought a little twist on that idea would be a perfect starter for us that evening.
I don’t particularly like grapefruit though so instead …
