werewolf american pub / downtown san diego
October 21st, 2014 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

Jake’s birthday is approximately 20 days before mine. We don’t always celebrate on his actual birthday though since S’s birthday is on the 2nd and he doesn’t want to steal his thunder. Instead we celebrated after his actual day. I made the whole thing a “Surprise! Woohoo!” evening and didn’t tell him where we were going. Jake’s mom graciously dropped us off Downtown as I had arranged transport home through Blacklane. Our first stop: dinner at Werewolf American Pub.

I didn’t …

weekday lunching at specialty’s, boudin bakery and opera cafe
October 20th, 2014 La Jolla, Mary, San Diego County, Sorrento Valley Mary Desjean 8 Comments

It’s Monday. And I’m home sick. Hence the late and short post. I am determined to beat this cold as quickly as possible though for birthday weekend fun times. I’m going to be like Barney:

Yesssssss. That’s gonna be me!

[turkey, apple, bacon and brie sandwich / $8.99]
Minion and I went to Specialty’s Cafe recently. I was in a “I-Want-Brie-Forever-And-Ever” mood and chose this sandwich which had roasted turkey breast, bacon and brie with fire-roasted fuji apples, arugula and lemon thyme aioli …

borrego springs / salton sea / mount laguna

Getting around to Part 2 of our little weekend trip out to the desert! You can refresh your memory with Borrego Springs Part 1 over here, if you’d like to. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

After grabbing lunch, visiting “The Mall” and checking into our hotel, Jake and I decided to drive out to visit the Salton Sea. Neither of us had ever been and we were curious what it was like. It’s about a half hour drive away from Borrego Springs, down a winding two lane road in the desert.

borrego springs road trip – part one
October 1st, 2014 Borrego Springs, Mary, Road Trips, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

Jake and I have headed out east two weekends in a row, one for a day trip to go apple picking (this past weekend) and the weekend before we went out to Borrego Springs for quick weekend in the desert!

Course… we had to stop for pie. I mean… duh.

They have Chicken Dinner Pie?! What? I really want to try that for some reason. Maybe next time.

On this trip we got one Dutch Apple Pie (crumb top 4 lyfe!) and a …

friday food finds
September 5th, 2014 etc, Mary, products, San Diego County Mary Desjean 17 Comments

I had a bunch of things that didn’t quite constitute a full post, so I’m going to stick them all together and call it “food finds”. Why not!

[housemade gyro with potato salad from wich addiction]
Here’s a terrible photo of something SUPER delicious from Wich Addiction. A couple of weeks ago the special of the week was a housemade gyro with their own tzatziki sauce on a scallion flatbread. I almost ate my screen looking at this beautiful sandwich again. The …

big daddy’s pizza and steak subs / boston, ma
August 6th, 2014 Mary, Massachusetts, Road Trips Mary Desjean 6 Comments

This is my last Massachusetts post! My family and I had to drive back into Boston from Southampton, which is about a 2 hour drive across the state. I picked something that was a little bit outside of the main hub of Boston. We had our fill of seafood and wanted to try something different, so I picked a shop that seemed to have a little bit of everything.
Here’s links to the menu, which has pizza, calzones, sandwiches and subs, …

peppertree frosty / vista
July 21st, 2014 Cheap Eats, Mary, San Diego County, Vista Mary Desjean 10 Comments

Two weekend ago when I wasn’t feeling very well, Jake and S were over and I decided that the only thing I really wanted to do that weekend was take a trip up to Vista to try out Pepper Tree Frosty and Danny’s Donuts. I read about Danny’s Donuts and Pepper Tree Corner on Pink Candles of Ridgemont High. CC wrote about their awesome blueberry donuts (post forthcoming) and I also wanted to try the food over at Pepper Tree …

bruxie / college area – san diego, ca
July 17th, 2014 College, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 6 Comments

Bruxie recently opened in the College Area, offering up sandwiches that use waffles instead of bread. WHAT.

I had seen/heard of Bruxie before from other bloggers talking about the OC location and I briefly considering going to OC to try it… but yeah, that didn’t happen. Bruxie was originally supposed to open up at the Headquarters in Downtown but something happened and they pulled out… and are now open and running in the College Area. In fact, they are right next …
