liberty public market | liberty station

A couple of weekends ago, Jake and I had a little afternoon to ourselves. T was off at baseball practice and we decided to see a movie (Zootopia! It was super cute!) and then head over to the Liberty Public Market for a little afternoon lunch. The market hasn’t been opened for too long but we were able to snag a parking spot pretty close to the market.

This is the front sign which faces the Corvette Diner side of Liberty …

the cafe at harrah’s rincon casino | valley center

Last week it was Spring Break for Jake and T. To “celebrate”,  my folks got us a free room at Harrah’s Rincon Casino and we had a staycation. The resort is far enough away to feel like you’re out of town, but still close enough to home. On our first night we decided to have dinner at The Cafe at Harrah’s Rincon – one of the sit down restaurants at the resort casino.

Harrah’s is pretty kid-friendly as well, though the kids still are not allowed to …

blue ribbon fried chicken + shake shack in vegas
February 26th, 2016 Las Vegas, Mary, Travel Mary 8 Comments

I was really on the fence about trying Shake Shack. I thought the only location was on the Strip at the NY NY Casino and I had very, very little desire to head all the way down the Strip just for a burger. Shake Shack had been taken off the list until Jake and I went to Summerlin for lunch to try Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken… and then I saw the Shake Shack literally across the road in the same …

viva las arepas + the $20 trick in las vegas
February 22nd, 2016 Cheap Eats, Las Vegas, Mary, Travel Mary 6 Comments

Last weekend Jake and I took a little trip to Las Vegas. We took Friday off so we could head up and enjoy a full weekend in Las Vegas. I tried the “$20 Trick” at our hotel, too! More on that later. First… Venezuelan food from a little spot called Viva las Arepas.

Viva las Arepas is located just north of the Stratsophere hotel (can you see it peeking through in the upper left corner?) in a little strip mall. It was about …

rough draft brewing company

Rough Draft is a brewing company that is very close to my office. I’d only been once before since I’m not much of a beer drinker but they recently started offering food. This meant I had to visit a couple of times to get a feel for their menu. All in the name of research!

Rough Draft is located off of a small street at the end of a cul-de-sac, surrounded by office buildings. They have outdoor seating and are a …

mishmash
February 8th, 2016 Barrio Logan, Mary, San Diego County Mary 2 Comments

I’m always trying to look for new places and last weekend was no exception! After running around town doing some errands on Friday, Jake, T and I headed to a new spot over in the revamped Barrio Logan (did you know they got a gateway sign in 2014 – I didn’t until I saw it!). The place? A new joint called MishMash. Talking to our waitress, we found out they are still in the “soft opening” stage and have only …

baguette bros

Every other week I find myself down in the Convoy area and this week I decided to stop by a new restaurant for a little bit of lunch. I had heard about Baguette Bros from one of my co-workers and decided to go check it out. Baguette Bros is in one of the oh-so-slightly larger lots – the same lot that houses Jeong Won Korean BBQ Buffet.

They’ve got a big “Grand Opening” banner up over the shop so it’s easy …
