friday food finds
September 5th, 2014 etc, Mary, products, San Diego County Mary Desjean 15 Comments

I had a bunch of things that didn’t quite constitute a full post, so I’m going to stick them all together and call it “food finds”. Why not!

[housemade gyro with potato salad from wich addiction]
Here’s a terrible photo of something SUPER delicious from Wich Addiction. A couple of weeks ago the special of the week was a housemade gyro with their own tzatziki sauce on a scallion flatbread. I almost ate my screen looking at this beautiful sandwich again. The …

big daddy’s pizza and steak subs / boston, ma
August 6th, 2014 Mary, Massachusetts, Road Trips Mary Desjean 6 Comments

This is my last Massachusetts post! My family and I had to drive back into Boston from Southampton, which is about a 2 hour drive across the state. I picked something that was a little bit outside of the main hub of Boston. We had our fill of seafood and wanted to try something different, so I picked a shop that seemed to have a little bit of everything.
Here’s links to the menu, which has pizza, calzones, sandwiches and subs, …

peppertree frosty / vista
July 21st, 2014 Cheap Eats, Mary, San Diego County, Vista Mary Desjean 10 Comments

Two weekend ago when I wasn’t feeling very well, Jake and S were over and I decided that the only thing I really wanted to do that weekend was take a trip up to Vista to try out Pepper Tree Frosty and Danny’s Donuts. I read about Danny’s Donuts and Pepper Tree Corner on Pink Candles of Ridgemont High. CC wrote about their awesome blueberry donuts (post forthcoming) and I also wanted to try the food over at Pepper Tree …

bruxie / college area – san diego, ca
July 17th, 2014 College, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 6 Comments

Bruxie recently opened in the College Area, offering up sandwiches that use waffles instead of bread. WHAT.

I had seen/heard of Bruxie before from other bloggers talking about the OC location and I briefly considering going to OC to try it… but yeah, that didn’t happen. Bruxie was originally supposed to open up at the Headquarters in Downtown but something happened and they pulled out… and are now open and running in the College Area. In fact, they are right next …

san diego county fair + bacon fest giveaway
June 24th, 2014 Del Mar, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

Ahh, summer! Longer days, warmer nights, corn on the cob, fresh seasonal fruits (I’m looking at you cantelope and watermelon)… what isn’t there to love about summer? There’s nothing that says summer to me like a visit to the Del Mar Fair San Diego County Fair (yeah, I still call it Del Mar Fair). I went to the fair last Friday with my friend, Laura, who got free Teacher Appreciation Day tickets (thanks, Laura!). I didn’t go “all out” like …

mamma lina’s / mira mesa – san diego, ca

I last wrote about Mamma Lina’s back in 2009 – man, that was like FIVE years ago! I found this place while I was still at my old job and now that my current job moved closer to Sorrento Valley, Mamma Lina’s has been back in my regular lunch rotation. Things have change a bit recently.
There used to be this huge hedge that made it hard to see the deli:

They’ve removed that and …

eureka! burgers / la jolla utc – san diego, ca
June 18th, 2014 La Jolla, Mary, San Diego County, UTC Mary Desjean 8 Comments

I’ve been to Eureka! Burgers before – but never actually had a burger there. I’ve tried the salads and appetizers and I felt it was high time that I actually try one of their burgers. I was curious how it stacked up to the many, many other burger places we have here in San Diego.

[pearl street blues burger / $10.95]
On my first visit by my lonesome self (I don’t mind dining alone at restaurants – this has never bothered me …

southpaw social club / downtown – san diego, ca
June 9th, 2014 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 14 Comments

I waited until the very last day to use my LivingSocial deal for Southpaw Social Club. Like the LAST DAY. LivingSocial put it into the “expired” section of the app and I freaked out a little but then I realized they probably don’t expire it by time so I knew the sucker was still good. Jake came with me as my cohort for this trip (not a surprise, I’m sure) and we enjoyed a nice evening out. Lucky for us …
