cape town pub south african fusion / miramar – san diego, ca

Last week I was doing a little lunch search on Yelp. I almost never write reviews on Yelp but I use it a lot to help me discover new things. As I was scrolling through the list for Miramar I skimmed over an entry for “Capetown” and in the first paragraph I saw “Deli SA” and a little light went off in my head – HEY, this place is run by the people who did Deli SA and all those …

‘rita’s cantina @ harrah’s / valley center, ca

My Dad recently had a birthday (happy birthday, Dad!) and he and my mom spend his birthday weekend up at Harrah’s. He wanted us (Jake, S and I) to meet them for breakfast at Valley View Casino, but we found out that Valley View is a “NO KIDS!@#” zone so we ended up going back to Harrah’s for eats.
On the way over to Harrah’s (which is a short drive from Valley View Casino), we spotted a little furry dog running …

mr. peabody’s bar & grill / encinitas, ca

Mr. Peabody’s is a cool little dive bar/grill in Encinitas, CA that I was invited to check out last week. It’s tuckered into a strip mall right off the freeway at Encinitas Blvd. It’s kind of hard to spot since the sign doesn’t really stand out and it’s way back in the lot, but it’s worth a visit to this semi-hidden spot!

They got some sweet happy hour deals as well as Daily Specials plus live entertainment nearly every evening. You …

supernatural sandwiches / miramar – san diego, ca

A few months ago, my co-worker cohorts and I tried to come to this plaza off Miramar Rd. for lunch to visit a place called Dave’s Cafe. But it had been closed down and a new spot was revamping it for an eventual move into the spot. Fast forward a few month’s and the place has finally opened and we went last week to check it out. The place? Supernatural Sandwiches.

I think they’re still working on their signage since the …

[giveaway] taste of hillcrest coming up on april 19th, 2014 + win tickets!

The 14th Annual Taste of Hillcrest is just around the corner! I last attended this event in 2012 and Jake and I had a blast going around and trying the crazy amount of samples available from over 40 restaurants in the neighborhood. There are 40 restaurants participating – making it one of the larger “taste” events in San Diego.

These taste events are always a ton of fun – it’s a great chance to see what’s in the neighborhood with a …

breakfast at wich addiction / mira mesa – san diego, ca

Usually I get to work too early to try and come to Wich Addiction for breakfast, but I had the chance to stop in for a bite to eat last week. I’ve tried plenty of other items on the Wich Addiction menu so I was looking forward to finally trying one of their breakfast items.

I decided to just with the simplest, cheapest option on their breakfast menu: “Just an Egg-Wich” for $3.95. I thought maybe it would just be the …

babs (bao’s awesome burgers) / convoy – san diego, ca

I’ve been sitting on a Groupon for Babs (Bao’s Awesome Burgers) for quite some time. We’ve tried to go a couple of times when it didn’t work out but this past weekend we finally made it in! Jake only had to circle us around the tiny lot once before someone left a spot that we were able to grab. I think Jake is a parking good luck charm.

For the Babs Groupon deal, we had the deal where you could get …

eating burgers at a taco shop | casa sonora / oak park – san diego, ca

Back in the day, Fred’s Old Fashioned Burgers was Jake and I’s favorite spot for burgers. It was in our regular rotation even though we had to go alllllll the way out to El Cajon for it. I loved their peanut butter chocolate shakes dearly and I especially loved their simple burgers and tasty french fries. We noticed a serious decline in quality and customer service before the El Cajon location shut down last year. There was still Alpine, but …

about this site

My name is Mary and I live in San Diego. I've been blogging since 2006 as a hobby - it's my fun, creative outlet! Some random things about me: I'm a front end web developer, I love peanut butter, cookies, warm cupcakes, puppy noses, star gazing, new bags of sugar, sprinkles, cupcake wrappers, egg rolls, eating french fries with ice cream, driving with the windows down, snuggling, wes anderson movies, staying up too late reading a good book and Jake. These are my adventures in all things food. Hope you enjoy the ride.
