bailey’s frozen yogurt

Over the weekend we were up in North County land and after Jake’s chiropractor appointment and some lunch (and a walk!), we stopped for a little frozen yogurt treat. I felt I needed a little extra treat since I had to work the rest of the day (boo weekend working). It felt like summer again this weekend with temperatures in the 80’s! Nothing like San Diego weather to trick you into wondering what time of the year it is.

wei wei asian express

Last Friday when I was heading down to Jake’s for the weekend, he asked me what I wanted to do for dinner that evening and suggested a place we’d been to quite a few times. But I was bored with that suggestion and countered by texting him with a link to a place called Wei Wei Asian Express. It was near his house and it was brand new so he relented to my suggestion. New things are always better, right?

[recipe] sesame chicken noodles + a giveaway

Last weekend Laura, Jake, T, Maya and I headed up to Julian for our annual trip to the mountains. It finally feels like fall in San Diego, hooray! A nice walk in Julian would be good since I started using a Fitbit last week – I need all the steps I can get! The only downside was there were SO MANY people with the same idea as us and the streets were pretty crowded with folks milling around or waiting …

thyme in the ranch

A few weeks ago, Jake was working at an event up in Rancho Santa Fe with T and I tagged along to hang out with them while they worked doing airbrush tattoos. I stopped over at a place within walking distance called Thyme in the Ranch for a little bit of breakfast.

Rancho Santa Fe is a pretty fancy-shamancy looking area. The Downtown-like area we were in looked a bit like an English garden. Thyme in the Ranch fits in well …

[revisit] college sub shop

On a recent weekend, Jake, T and I went and revisited the College Sub Shop off El Cajon Blvd in the SDSU College area. We wanted some cheap and tasty eats and the College Sub Shop fits the bill for cheap sandwiches. Imagine our surprise though when we walked in and noticed the place got a bit of a facelift! Jake noticed a price increase first whereas I noticed the place looked a lot spiffier.

The shop’s original owner wanted to …

mama testa taqueria
October 26th, 2015Mary, Mira Mesa, San Diego Countymary 6 Comments

Mama Testa Taqueria has recently moved to my hood in Mira Mesa and I couldn’t be happier about having new restaurant options! Hooray!

Mama Testa Taqueria (which was previously located in Hillcrest) moved into an old spot that used to be a taco shop called El Maguey. I last wrote about El Maguey back in 2008. While it was good way back when, the quality of the food really dropped in the years that followed. The nail in the coffin for me was …

kabob lounge

On a recent lunch with co-workers, they voted for a new-to-us spot for lunch. On Fridays I give everyone two choices for lunch spots and the most votes win. I never place an actual vote since I choose the spots but I was happy to see the “new is better!” mantra come into play. Yay for my co-workers! We ended up hitting this spot in Carmel Valley called the Kabob Lounge. We don’t usually ever go north for lunch so it …
