gyu-kaku japanese bbq | scripps ranch

Recently my friend Laura and I went to check out Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ over in Scripps Ranch. I’ve been wanting to check this place out for a long time! I was deterred when it initially opened because the wait was usually quite long. We visited on a Thursday evening and there was only a 5 minute wait for a table. The hostess told us about making reservations though I didn’t see the need to make one if there was only …

guiltea cravings | clairemont

Last weekend Jake, T, and I had dinner at Lolita’s. But I’m not here today to talk about that – surely you know all about Lolita’s! No, no, no. I’m here to talk about some dessert I had at a new spot called GuilTea Cravings. Specifically macarons. Delicious little macarons.

GuilTea Cravings is located right next to the 805 off Clairemont Mesa Blvd. It’s next to a place called Twisted Sushi and Sipz Fusion Cafe. We hit up Comickaze first and …

wong’s golden palace | la mesa

Jake and I had our 9 year anniversary recently (yes… 9!!) and for our anniversary Jake wanted to pick the restaurant. That’s how we ended up at Wong’s Golden Palace in La Mesa. I have a vague memory of going here when I was kid. Jake and I have passed the place a ton of times with it’s kind of retro fake “palace” exterior. It was high time to try it as an adult.

The entrance to the restaurant is actually …

liberty public market | liberty station

A couple of weekends ago, Jake and I had a little afternoon to ourselves. T was off at baseball practice and we decided to see a movie (Zootopia! It was super cute!) and then head over to the Liberty Public Market for a little afternoon lunch. The market hasn’t been opened for too long but we were able to snag a parking spot pretty close to the market.

This is the front sign which faces the Corvette Diner side of Liberty …

da chicken coop | lemon grove

Da Chicken Coop is a new fried chicken joint by the same person who owns Coop’s West Texas BBQ in Lemon Grove. Da Chicken Coop is actually just right across the way in the same strip mall as Coop’s so in theory you could get some fried chicken and waffles plus a pulled pork sandwich for lunch! We visited Da Chicken Coop recently to try out some of their offerings.

Da Chicken Coop only has a walk-up window and there’s outdoor seating …

pink’s hot dogs | valley center

This is my last Harrah’s Rincon post! It probably seems like I’m some kind of spokesman for them now but I’m not. I just wanted to see what it would be like to have all of our meals at Harrah’s. Not the best food offerings overall, but decent enough if you’re just staying for a little while.
After we had lunch at the buffet, we hung out in our room for awhile before heading downstairs to Harrah’s lazy river. Harrah’s is …

hiking at palomar mountain + the buffet at harrah’s rincon casino

During our mini staycation, we took off to Palomar Mountain for a fun (and tiring) nature hike. I wanted to revisit the Palomar Mountain School where I (and T) went for sixth grade camp. We also went to The Buffet at Harrah’s Rincon Casino for lunch! More on the buffet later. First up… breakfast!
Breakfast at Starbucks
If it’s after 6AM, there are only 2 options for breakfast at Harrah’s. If it’s before 6AM then Pink’s will be in the mix for …
