borrego springs road trip – part one

Jake and I have headed out east two weekends in a row, one for a day trip to go apple picking (this past weekend) and the weekend before we went out to Borrego Springs for quick weekend in the desert!

Course… we had to stop for pie. I mean… duh.

They have Chicken Dinner Pie?! What? I really want to try that for some reason. Maybe next time.

On this trip we got one Dutch Apple Pie (crumb top 4 lyfe!) and a …

common theory public house
September 23rd, 2014Kearny Mesa, Mary, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 8 Comments

Common Theory Public House is a gastropub that popped up in Kearny Mesa earlier this year. It’s in the same lot at Yes! Pingo, Blush Desserts and my chiropractor (not food related). It’s hard to pop in a visit here now that they don’t serve lunch on Monday’s (which is generally the day I go see my chiropractor). But a few switcheroo’s in appointments allowed me to check out Common Theory Public House a couple of times.

I visited this space …

pizzeria mozza / downtown san diego
September 22nd, 2014Downtown, Mary, Multiple Locations, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 10 Comments

After we got sugared up from Frost Me Gourmet Cupcakes, we headed over to Pizzeria Mozza for some lunch. I’ve been wanting to visit Pizzeria Mozza since they opened last year, but I heard they had some trouble working out the kinks. Since they’re now listed in the Eater San Diego 38, I figured they had finally worked everything out and it was time to visit.

Here’s their menu, which you can click to enlarge and read in it’s full glory.

frost me gourmet cupcakes / downtown san diego
September 19th, 2014Downtown, Mary, Multiple Locations, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 17 Comments

Frost Me Gourmet Cupcakes is the newest cupcake shop to pop up in San Diego. I was recently invited to go down to Seaport Village and check out the new shop and stuff my face with cupcakes. Was I up to the task? OH YEAH!
The shop is owned by Audrey Hermes and her boyfriend Jon, who were incredibly welcoming and friendly. They’ve been on Cupcake Wars twice! The first time they didn’t win but the second time they took home the …

food truck lunches at my urban eats and the pierogi truck
September 17th, 2014Mary, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 10 Comments

Am I sick of food trucks yet? Apparently not. I visited two food trucks last week just for kicks.

The first one was My Urban Eats. My love of green made me love the look of this truck right away. And I love the font they use. I kind of feel like the chicken is eyeballing me though.

This is the menu. I believe they change things up every few months or so. Keeping it in season! The thing that caught my …

italianissimo trattoria / chula vista, ca
September 16th, 2014Chula Vista, Mary, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 8 Comments

It’s been insanely hot around San Diego all weekend. Last Friday night Jake, T and I went to the cheap theater down in Chula Vista to escape the heat of his house (we went to see The Hundred Foot Journey; while not the greatest movie I’ve ever seen, I did enjoy it and it did manage to make me quite hungry). After the movie it was getting to be a little late and a quick search on Yelp showed me …

genghis grill / mira mesa
September 15th, 2014Mary, Mira Mesa, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 12 Comments

Genghis Grill opened in Mira Mesa earlier this year. I went awhile ago with my co-workers but I wasn’t super impressed with my initial visit. Recently Laura came over so we could continue watching Downton Abbey (we’re still behind!) and grab some dinner. I suggested Genghis Grill again just to see if they had changed or there were any improvements from my last visit. Let’s see how it went!

We went for dinner on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was fairly …
