louisiana fried chicken and waffles

Okay, folks. Time for some eats from a part of town you probably don’t head to very often: Logan Heights! I had a coupon in the Entertainment 2015 book for a little spot called Louisiana Fried Chicken. I found out this place is part of a franchise of a larger fast food chain. Apparently Louisiana Fried Chicken is all over LA but I had never heard of it before. We have one lonely little location in San Diego right off National Ave and the 5. It’s right on the border into Logan Heights and quite close to the 32nd Street Naval Base.

fish sauce wings + pretzel crust pizza from little caesars

Earlier this week after Jake played a game of softball, I was RAGING hungry. I felt like I wanted to punch something because it felt like my stomach was punching me back.
“FEED ME, WOMAN!”
“Okay, stomach. Geez. Take a chill pill.”
After his game I really, really wanted some chicken wings and I ended up getting an order of deliciously crispy and slightly sweet Fish Sauce Wings from Que Huong.

genghis grill / mira mesa
September 15th, 2014 Mary, Mira Mesa, San Diego County mary 12 Comments

Genghis Grill opened in Mira Mesa earlier this year. I went awhile ago with my co-workers but I wasn’t super impressed with my initial visit. Recently Laura came over so we could continue watching Downton Abbey (we’re still behind!) and grab some dinner. I suggested Genghis Grill again just to see if they had changed or there were any improvements from my last visit. Let’s see how it went!

We went for dinner on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was fairly …

zpizza party + a giveaway

zpizza recently invited me to have a pizza party in my own house (or in this case, Jake’s house) and I gladly accepted. (A night of no dishes, woo!) zpizza wanted to showcase a few new pizzas from their tasting kitchen. These are all experimental pizzas that might be making it onto their menu soon.

rubio’s california bowl / utc

While I’ve lived in San Diego for more than a decade, I had my first fish taco when a Rubio’s opened up in the mid-90’s in my hometown of Rancho Cucamonga. Yes, that city actually exists and, no, it’s not like that movie Next Friday with Ice Cube. Well, most of it at least, but that’s a story for another time.

wienerschnitzel hot dogs

Ah, Wienerschnitzel. I hadn’t been here in years and two things converged to bring me here last weekend: 1) I got some gift cards from a PR person and 2) They were having a 61 cents anniversary special. Let’s do this.

The familiar steeple A frame is still present in all of the Wienerschnitzel’s in San Diego. I totally associate this look with hot dogs.

The menu. They don’t just have hot dogs anymore! There’s also a variety of chili burgers and …

new york buffalo wings & ribs / la mesa – san diego, ca

Last weekend I had a craving for some wings. I don’t know why, but lately I’ve been craving wings left and right. I also only like the “wing” part. I’ll eat a drumette if that’s all that’s left but I’d much rather eat the wing. You keep those drumettes to yourself and we’ll be good. I use Yelp a lot to find places but I always take the reviews with a grain of salt. Just because something’s popular doesn’t necessarily …
