gyu-kaku japanese bbq | scripps ranch

Recently my friend Laura and I went to check out Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ over in Scripps Ranch. I’ve been wanting to check this place out for a long time! I was deterred when it initially opened because the wait was usually quite long. We visited on a Thursday evening and there was only a 5 minute wait for a table. The hostess told us about making reservations though I didn’t see the need to make one if there was only …

wong’s golden palace | la mesa

Jake and I had our 9 year anniversary recently (yes… 9!!) and for our anniversary Jake wanted to pick the restaurant. That’s how we ended up at Wong’s Golden Palace in La Mesa. I have a vague memory of going here when I was kid. Jake and I have passed the place a ton of times with it’s kind of retro fake “palace” exterior. It was high time to try it as an adult.

The entrance to the restaurant is actually …

mr bbq | fullerton

Recently Jake, T and I headed up to Orange County for a little excursion. Jake wanted to buy a Funko Pop collectible from someone in LA who met us halfway in OC and to convince me to go along, Jake suggested we hit up a place for Korean BBQ. He let me pick the spot (as usual) and I picked Mr BBQ. Mr BBQ is rated #27 on Yelp’s Top Places to Eat in the US for 2016 and the …

kung fu tea | kearny mesa

Every other Monday I go down to see my chiropractor and when I was leaving from his office, I spotted a new tea place that had just opened up called Kung Fu Tea. Dr. Gilmour came out when he saw he hanging outside looking at the Kung Fu Tea shop and vouched for it, telling me it was really good. I was totally in the mood for some milk tea so I went in.

This is my “I’m driving, oh crap …

Last week I was invited to come and check out a little preview dinner at Blush Ice Bar for the special Gaslamp Quarter Mardi Gras Celebration that is happening THIS WEEKEND on February 6th, 2016. Quite frankly I’m in shock that it’s already February. 2016 is really zooming along!

In case you don’t know about the crazy Mardi Gras Celebration, here’s a little recap. There will be a huge block party in the Gaslamp spanning about 10 blocks with 5 live stages with …

baguette bros

Every other week I find myself down in the Convoy area and this week I decided to stop by a new restaurant for a little bit of lunch. I had heard about Baguette Bros from one of my co-workers and decided to go check it out. Baguette Bros is in one of the oh-so-slightly larger lots – the same lot that houses Jeong Won Korean BBQ Buffet.

They’ve got a big “Grand Opening” banner up over the shop so it’s easy …

hae jang chon / los angeles, ca
January 8th, 2016 Koreatown, Los Angeles County, Mary Mary 2 Comments

We haven’t done much traveling since Boston (and someday I’ll finish those travel posts… sigh) and I wanted to take a little day trip somewhere. Last weekend we opted to go up to Los Angeles for a foodie adventure and to do a little shopping. Jake and I have become slightly obsessed with Funko Pops and also decided to hit up a few shops looking for pops. But first… lunch at a place called Hae Jang Chon!

We’ve been into trying out …
