pho hung cali

We were down in Chula Vista on Father’s Day to drop off the kiddos after going to see Jurassic World at Horton Plaza. Have you been to Horton Plaza lately? It feels a little like a ghost town these days and the movie theater is totally old school – no digital signs, no TV’s showing you ads while you stand in line for popcorn, and more importantly there’s no one else there. You pretty much get the place to yourself. …

t-pop desserts & more

At work we started to have sponsored “Ladies Lunches” since there are so few ladies that work in the office. It’s a nice way to get away from the office and to enjoy tasty treats together! Our most recent ladies lunch was at T-Pop Desserts & More. I thought they were only a dessert place but I discovered they recently added ramen and appetizers and figured it’d be a good spot to check out.

The inside of T-Pop Desserts is super cute! …

tuk tuk thai

One evening last week I was over at Jake’s and he didn’t want to go out. We were going to order a pizza but then I suggested we try this little Thai place that’s only a few blocks from his house. We’ve passed it about a thousand times already and have always meant to go in but just… never really gave it serious thought before. It looked like a cute little place and I got him to agree (even though I think he really wanted that pizza). The Thai place is called Tuk Tuk Thai and I used Yelp to place a to-go order for us.

a-chau vietnamese sandwiches

Taking a break from all of those desert posts to tell you about some FOOD I actually ate recently. Vietnamese food to be exact! Most of the time I only seem to eat Vietnamese food around Mira Mesa but I was down in Jake’s ‘hood and needed a bite to eat. Jake was doing the Little League thing and I was on my own to grab something before his game started. I decided to go and check out A-Chau which …

takoyaki stand at the mira mesa farmer’s market

The Mira Mesa Farmer’s Market happens just about every Tuesday. I was driving home from work yesterday and passed by the high school and thought, “Oh! Farmer’s Market! I’m gonna go.” And so I did.
The market seemed a little emptier on the farmer’s side yesterday, there was a big gap with some missing vendors – maybe they didn’t have enough stuff to sell that day. After wandering through the whole market I went back to check out the food.

I noticed …

wang’s north park

Recently I was invited to check out Wang’s North Park, an Asian-American-Chinese fusion kind of place over in hipster North Park. I took Jake, T, and Carin (Jake’s mom) with me to the dinner. We went pretty early on a Saturday, right when they opened, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Wang’s North Park is situated in a gigantic open space that used to JC Penney way, way back in the day. There are two levels of seating …

dim sum at pearl chinese / san diego

Last month I finally got to try out “sit down with the carts” dim sum for the first time with Faye of Faye’s Fork and Lynn of Oh-So-Yummy at Pearl Chinese. We met up on a Saturday and sat at a big, round table to start stuffing delicious dim sum into our mouths. Sounds like the perfect Saturday to me!

Pearl Chinese is up in Rancho Bernardo and has this beautiful pond/lake in the back area next to the Doubletree Inn. I …
