mj’s yogurt time and deli revisit
November 17th, 2014 Chula Vista, Mary, San Diego County mary 6 Comments

Short post today since I feel I am not “fully recovered” from Vegas yet. Or rather, I have so many ideas running through my head from the conference that I couldn’t focus enough to do a longer post. Hah!
Recently I met up with CC from Pink Candles at Ridgemont High. She had some birthday goodies for me and more importantly, travel information about my next fun trip to Portland! It’ll be our first visit to Portland and I’m starting to gather …

la dumpling crawl

Two weekends ago we embarked on yet another food crawl. This crawl’s theme? DUMPLINGS.
Now, while I love dumplings and I love San Diego, San Diego has a serious lack of delicious dumplings so we headed north to Los Angeles for a dumpling crawl. Sorry, San Diego. I still love you.
The following dumplings are in order of visitation. I’ll give you the low-down on the numbers and statistics at the end of this post (or you can skip to end if …

genghis grill / mira mesa
September 15th, 2014 Mary, Mira Mesa, San Diego County mary 12 Comments

Genghis Grill opened in Mira Mesa earlier this year. I went awhile ago with my co-workers but I wasn’t super impressed with my initial visit. Recently Laura came over so we could continue watching Downton Abbey (we’re still behind!) and grab some dinner. I suggested Genghis Grill again just to see if they had changed or there were any improvements from my last visit. Let’s see how it went!

We went for dinner on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was fairly …

beijing wok and grill / fountain valley, ca

Jake suggested after we got the donuts that we could just call it a day and go home and NOT get Chinese food. I gave him the most withering look I could muster. As if! OF COURSE we need to try another Chinese place. Pfffft. It’s all in the name of research for you, my friends.
My choice for this trip was a place called Beijing Wok and Grill which was a pretty quick drive from the Donuttery. Beijing Wok and …

roadem bbq / kearny mesa
September 3rd, 2014 Kearny Mesa, Mary, San Diego County mary 16 Comments

Jake is actually the one who discovered this place and tried it before me – an all you can eat Korean BBQ spot over off Convoy called Roadem BBQ. He’s visited a few times and I suggested we go one recent Saturday for lunch. Korean BBQ sounded like a mighty fine idea to me.
For lunch they have three different priced menus.

Menu A is only $11.99 (click to enlarge).

Menu B is $15.99. You get two extra beefy items with this one …

hui tou xiang noodles house / san gabriel, ca

One glance at the website for Hui Tou Xiang Noodles House was enough to convince me that I needed to try those dumplings prominently featured on their website. Luckily my friends Heather and Alyssa (who used to write for this blog) are foodie adventurous! Let’s see what sorts of deliciousness lurks in the San Gabriel Valley!

spotted cow viet kitchen / kearny mesa – san diego, ca

And now, some words from my minion:
– – – – – – – – – –
While Mary toured the land of key lime pie and Cuban sandwiches, I attended a complimentary lunch invitation from the Spotted Cow Viet Kitchen in her stead. The unique name piqued my curiosity and I immediately thought of British spy Emma Peel saying “How now brown cow?” in The Avengers. Though this outing would be more Bourdain than Bond, I knew that I had to …

[product review] asian snacks part two
May 2nd, 2014 Mary, products mary 0 Comments

Another edition of crazy Asian snacks! All of these are again from H Mart, where I like to browse the aisles looking for different snacks to try.

Yes! Chips! Why! All! The exclamation points?!

These are sort of like popped crunchy air chips. They are a bit sweet and a bit salty and I really liked the texture of these. Maybe the exclamation points have a point after all. Yummy!

I got these because they said “During my stay in caffe” which just …
