dirty birds / pacific beach
September 4th, 2014 Mary, Pacific Beach, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

I’m forever on a quest to find awesome chicken wings. I’ve read before that Dirty Birds has topped a few lists. Jinxi did a post about Dirty Birds recently that got me thinkin’ it was about time I check it out. Jake plays softball down in Pacific Beach on Sundays and my friend Laura joined us for some post-softball grub.

In case you didn’t know, this is definitely a sports bar. Just a few things give it away…

southpaw social club / downtown – san diego, ca
June 9th, 2014 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 14 Comments

I waited until the very last day to use my LivingSocial deal for Southpaw Social Club. Like the LAST DAY. LivingSocial put it into the “expired” section of the app and I freaked out a little but then I realized they probably don’t expire it by time so I knew the sucker was still good. Jake came with me as my cohort for this trip (not a surprise, I’m sure) and we enjoyed a nice evening out. Lucky for us …

mr. peabody’s bar & grill / encinitas, ca
April 14th, 2014 Encinitas, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

Mr. Peabody’s is a cool little dive bar/grill in Encinitas, CA that I was invited to check out last week. It’s tuckered into a strip mall right off the freeway at Encinitas Blvd. It’s kind of hard to spot since the sign doesn’t really stand out and it’s way back in the lot, but it’s worth a visit to this semi-hidden spot!

They got some sweet happy hour deals as well as Daily Specials plus live entertainment nearly every evening. You …

revisit to callahan’s / mira mesa – san diego, ca
February 25th, 2014 Mary, Mira Mesa, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

It’s been quite awhile since I last posted about Callahan’s… like, five years actually! The place looks the same once you step inside but now they have a fancier looking menu – one sheet instead of the book they used to have, but with many of the same offerings as before. I visited here last Friday with my friend Laura. We needed a little grub before we could sit down to watch some Downton Abbey! Since I only watch it …

tiger!tiger! / north park – san diego, ca
February 10th, 2014 Mary, North Park, San Diego County Mary Desjean 10 Comments

After Jake’s last softball game of the season last Wednesday (which lasts 8 games), we joined his team over at Tiger!Tiger! in North Park for a little post game drinking and eating. Well, I drank an Arnold Palmer and Jake had a Virgil’s Root Beer (which they have on TAP). We didn’t feel like partaking of the alcoholic beverages that evening.

Jake and I shared these entrees …

late night happy hour at the riviera supper club / la mesa – san diego, ca
January 30th, 2014 Cheap Eats, La Mesa, Mary, San Diego County Mary Desjean 8 Comments

This time around after another one of Jake’s later night games, we headed out to the Riviera Supper Club in La Mesa for another late night happy hour.

It was Wednesday night – around 9:30PM and there was a live band playing near the front entrance. I felt like a hip adult out for a drink on a weeknight…

… even thought all I had was a Diet Coke. There were no booths in the bar area at first, so we saddled …

late night happy hour at the lazy dog restaurant / mission valley – san diego, ca

The last few softball games Jake has had have been later in the evening – at 8:30PM. This gave us a chance to check out some late night happy hours I’d been curious about.

The first one we went to was at the Lazy Dog Restaurant. They have regular happy hour Monday-Friday from 3 to 6PM. Sunday through Thursday they do a second happy hour from 9PM until close. The menu is the same for both times. Anything with an asterisk …

holly jolly mocktails at the pony room/ rancho santa fe – san diego, ca
December 27th, 2013 Mary, Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego County Mary Desjean 2 Comments

If you’re looking for an alternative way to celebrate the coming of the New Year, something a little more on the sober side, you might want to check out some of the holiday “Mocktails” that a few restaurants have got on tap this season.

There are three participants in North Coastal Prevention Coalition’s 2nd annual Holly Jolly Mocktails helping to spread some sober, festive cheer this season.
1) “Holiday Peppermint Patty” – Casa De Bandini: A chocolate and peppermint concoction which makes me …
