September 23rd, 2015 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County mary 10 Comments

Last month on a nice, bright sunny afternoon, Jake, T and I went Downtown. Normally I avoid Downtown like the plague but I’ve found that daytime trips to Downtown really aren’t that bad. We were heading to a Padres vs Cardinals game that evening and scored excellent parking right across the street from Petco Park. Since we were there about four hours before the game, parking was HELLA CHEAP. We paid $8 TOTAL and netted ourselves a $1/hr parking fee. SCORE. …

summer tasting menu at vessel restaurant

Earlier this month I was invited to another media event for the Vessel Restaurant over at the Kona Kai resort hotel in Shelter Island. Jake finally got to be my date this time around! Vessel Restaurant was featuring dishes from their new summer menu and each course was paired with a local craft beer.

Hence everyone had tons of beers surrounding their place setting at the table.

I don’t usually drink this much and honestly I’m not a huge beer fan (sad, …

the cork and craft

Recently I was invited to go in and check out a relatively new spot up in Rancho Bernardo called The Cork and Craft. The Cork and Craft is a really unique restaurant that also houses a winery and a brewery. The restaurant came about as a way to bind all three ventures into one, making it a place to not only get a great meal but to also enjoy some local wine and craft beer!

Jake and I went in on a Friday …

juniper & ivy

My friend Alyssa (who used to write for this blog!) recently came back to San Diego to visit with her husband, J, and her two adorable little ones. She made plans to go to Juniper & Ivy and invited me along! I’ve been interested in trying out Juniper & Ivy for so long and was glad to get the chance to hang out with my best good friend and to eat tasty delicious things.

Juniper and Ivy is one of chef …

osteria mozza / los angeles

After we spend the day in Catalina, we made our way towards Hollywood to check in to our seedy motel (at least the parking was free…) and then off we went to meet Alyssa for dinner at Osteria Mozza. Osteria Mozza is like the fine dining version of Pizzeria Mozza, owned by the same group of people: Nancy Silverton, Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich. My particular interest in Osteria Mozza was that I heard they have a Mozzarella Bar and …

the patio on lamont street / pacific beach

I was recently invited to come and check out The Patio on Lamont Street (there are actually two locations now, the other in Mission Hills). Jake was originally supposed to go with me, but he ended up having to work, so I took my parents and Maya with me.

This is a view of the patio area later in the evening when with the lights lit up. It gave the area a wonderful warmth!

There was also an …

solare ristorante / liberty station

I was recently invited to dine at Solare Ristorante in Liberty Station. Jake and I visited Solare many moons ago and didn’t have a really great experience back then, but I was happy to give them another shot to see how they are doing now.

When we arrived, the hostess asked where we wanted to sit (indoors or outdoors). Jake wanted to sit outside but it felt a little too muggy to me, so I choose indoors. The hostess asked if …
