With Memorial Day coming up this the weekend and the unofficial start of summer on the way, it’s easy to see why May has been declared National BBQ Month. The longer days and warmer weather make it the perfect time to start bringing all of your cooking outdoors. Here in San Diego we’re lucky enough to be able to grill pretty much all year, but sure is a lot nicer to grill when it’s warm outside.

I was recently given some …

Souplantation Frankenstein Creations aka Design Your Own Delicious

I was recently invited to come back in to Souplantation during their new promotion called “Design Your Own Delicious“. It’s a contest using social media where you design something new using the food from Souplantation to create your own unique spin on a meal. I like to think of it as “Frankentstein Food Creations” but hey – call it whatever you want – you still win by eating tasty stuff at Souplantation and trying something a little new.
I explained the …

Ahh, we’re finally getting the to the Key West posts! It was a long eight hour drive down to Key West from Tampa. Sarasota was about an hour away so after blunch we still had about seven hours ahead of us. Hoo boy. I didn’t do any of the driving, I just sat in the back seat and chilled out reading my books.

We drove through lots of swampland, which you pretty much can’t see. There’s a lot of green, then …

revisit to bud’s louisiana cafe / kearny mesa – san diego, ca

Taking a little break from the travel posts to write about a place Jake and I went to last week here in San Diego. I haven’t written about Bud’s Louisiana Cafe since 2009, when they were still located in Tierrasanta! I’ve been back a few times since that post but am finally doing a revisit post. Woo!
I had a strong hankering last week for some catfish… specifically some FRIED catfish. Maybe it was that week spent in the South that …

Next leg of our trip: heading down to Key West! Course, we had to eat before we really hit the road and we traveled about an hour south of Tampa into Sarasota, FL to visit Yoder’s Amish Village.
Jake, Chris and I are all fans of Man vs. Food and during Chris’s first visit out to San Diego we took him to the places Adam visited (Lucha Libre and Phil’s – we skipped Broken Yolk) so in turn Chris took us …

spotted cow viet kitchen / kearny mesa – san diego, ca

And now, some words from my minion:
– – – – – – – – – –
While Mary toured the land of key lime pie and Cuban sandwiches, I attended a complimentary lunch invitation from the Spotted Cow Viet Kitchen in her stead. The unique name piqued my curiosity and I immediately thought of British spy Emma Peel saying “How now brown cow?” in The Avengers. Though this outing would be more Bourdain than Bond, I knew that I had to …

The San Diego Food Bloggers Bake Sale is coming up VERY SOON – like, this Saturday, May 17th, 2014! Our little group decided to branch out and we are now supporting the local San Diego Food Bank and their Foods 4 Kids Backpack program!

rush hour chicken and waffles / st. petersburg, fl

To end our first full day in Tampa, Chris let me choose the restaurant. Ain’t he nice?
After the breakfast and bakery, Chris drove us around Tampa Bay a bit and then we went over to St. Petersburg (you have to cross bridges to get over to that part of town). We ended up visiting the Salvador Dali museum and after that, I picked a place nearby for dinner. If you’re interesting in seeing my other photos from around Tampa and …
