turkey day!
November 29th, 2013etc, Mary, Recipesmary 10 Comments

I hope you and your family had a very lovely turkey day, er Thanksgiving, yesterday! I just chilled out at home, helped with making the dinner (which was a true “dinner” this year – Jake had to work until 6PM and we didn’t eat until after 8PM instead of our usual “eat-at-3PM”).

I started the day off by baking some scones. These are actually the packaged mix from Fresh n Easy. You just cut in some butter, add an egg and …

lunching with co-workers

Since it’s been awhile since I took some of these photos, I must come to the conclusion I’ll never do a “proper” full-fledged post. And since I’m feeling lazy before the big start of the holidays, you get this mis-match of photos and little stories of a few places I visited with my co-workers.
On Friday’s I give my co-workers a choice between two places – usually places I really want to visit or sound interesting to me. Here’s a few …

thanksgiving side suggestions
November 25th, 2013etc, Marymary 2 Comments

I know I don’t do a whole lot of recipe posting on here. Mostly because I cook and then I just want to eat already! If I’m cooking, chances are I’ve been hungry for longer and making pretty plates and then taking photos seems like way too much work. Here are a few suggestions for Thanksgiving sides that I have actually documented which would make a great appetizer, side, or dessert!

Memere’s Pork Stuffing
My memere (or actually, great-memere, or great grandmother) …

san diego pretzel company + giveaway!

I’ll bet that you had no idea that there’s a pretzel factory in San Diego! I’ll further bet that you didn’t know it sat in National City, amongst a few houses, and that they provide pretzels for many places who distribute to tons of places across the country (like Disneyland! And Karl Strauss! And stadiums and stuff!). And it’s all made here in San Diego!
The only reason I found out about the San Diego Pretzel Company is because I was …

dinosaurs and date shake tasting – hadley vs shields / palm springs, ca

After heading out of the pretty mountains at Big Bear, we headed out to Palm Springs! Since it was late October it was not super hot like it is in the summer, but it’s actually more “San Diego-like” temperatures – in the 70′s. On the way to Palm Springs we stopped at Cabazon Outlet mall. That place has got a bunch of “fancy” stores like Armani and Coach and a bunch of brands I’ve never heard of because I’m not …

mamma teresa / poway – san diego, ca
November 20th, 2013Mary, Poway, San Diego Countymary 6 Comments

This post is long over due since Jake and I came here in early October! I almost skipped doing it all together because the photos are kind of crappy, but whatever. You need to know about this place!
Mamma Teresa doesn’t look like much. It’s right off Poway Rd. and Community Rd., in the shopping center where the DMV used to be. That’s the DMV where I failed my driver’s test TWICE. Yes, twice. I’m a bit of a dork, in …

bears den at pine knot guest ranch / big bear lake, ca

I’m always the planner whenever we go on trips. I actually like doing the research and picking out a place for us to stay in addition to the checking out a few potential eating spots. I’m not sure if this makes me anal or just a good planner… maybe a little of both?
Ultimately I picked out this little cabin (vacation home, actually, it’s just fun to call it a cabin) for Jake, Chris and I to stay at in Big …

lumberjack cafe / big bear lake, ca

Back to Big Bear posts!

The next day when we woke up after arriving in Big Bear, there was a nice dusting of snow everywhere.

My shiny car got it’s first layer of snow as well! After a little breakfast, we headed out to explore a bit of the area.

There was lots of pretty scenery and lovely trees everywhere. We tried to visit the Discovery Center and the Park Ranger station but they were both closed that day. We ended up just …
