vessel restaurant at kona kai resort

I’m on the verge of wrapping up all of my birthday goodies for my free birthday posts – so stay tuned for those very soon! But first… let’s take a peek at a recent Media Dinner I was invited to attend earlier this month at the Vessel Restaurant at the Kona Kai Resort. I visited the Vessel Restaurant last year for another media dinner and this time around Stacey tagged along for the fun.
The restaurant has been renovated since last …

la dumpling crawl

Two weekends ago we embarked on yet another food crawl. This crawl’s theme? DUMPLINGS.
Now, while I love dumplings and I love San Diego, San Diego has a serious lack of delicious dumplings so we headed north to Los Angeles for a dumpling crawl. Sorry, San Diego. I still love you.
The following dumplings are in order of visitation. I’ll give you the low-down on the numbers and statistics at the end of this post (or you can skip to end if …

hanna’s gourmet / university heights

Alyssa was in town for a mini weekend visit and I met her and the family for breakfast at Hanna’s Gourmet, a spot I’ve been eyeing for a revisit for quite awhile. I visited Hanna’s Gourmet earlier this year with a few other bloggers and this was our dessert spot that day. I’m happy I got to come back to try out their other food.

Hanna’s Gourmet specializes in doing “World Tour” foods and that week they were doing the Philippines! …

werewolf american pub / downtown san diego
October 21st, 2014Downtown, Mary, San Diego Countymary 10 Comments

Jake’s birthday is approximately 20 days before mine. We don’t always celebrate on his actual birthday though since S’s birthday is on the 2nd and he doesn’t want to steal his thunder. Instead we celebrated after his actual day. I made the whole thing a “Surprise! Woohoo!” evening and didn’t tell him where we were going. Jake’s mom graciously dropped us off Downtown as I had arranged transport home through Blacklane. Our first stop: dinner at Werewolf American Pub.

I didn’t …

weekday lunching at specialty’s, boudin bakery and opera cafe

It’s Monday. And I’m home sick. Hence the late and short post. I am determined to beat this cold as quickly as possible though for birthday weekend fun times. I’m going to be like Barney:

Yesssssss. That’s gonna be me!

[turkey, apple, bacon and brie sandwich / $8.99]
Minion and I went to Specialty’s Cafe recently. I was in a “I-Want-Brie-Forever-And-Ever” mood and chose this sandwich which had roasted turkey breast, bacon and brie with fire-roasted fuji apples, arugula and lemon thyme aioli …

friday foodie finds / part three
October 17th, 2014etc, Mary, productsmary 10 Comments

I dig doing my “foodie finds” posts and I hope you enjoy them, too! These are all things that didn’t warrant their own full post, but are still worth mentioning!

Actually this first thing isn’t a “find”. I made these deviled eggs! I don’t even have a real recipe for them. I just scoop out the yolks and then squirt in little mustard, add mayo, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika to taste. Then I add another little dash of paprika …

borrego springs / salton sea / mount laguna

Getting around to Part 2 of our little weekend trip out to the desert! You can refresh your memory with Borrego Springs Part 1 over here, if you’d like to. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

After grabbing lunch, visiting “The Mall” and checking into our hotel, Jake and I decided to drive out to visit the Salton Sea. Neither of us had ever been and we were curious what it was like. It’s about a half hour drive away from Borrego Springs, down a winding two lane road in the desert.
