desert road trip preview

I’m still getting my bearings back after a nice long weekend spend in the desert. Right about now, I’d rather be doing this:
But instead it’s time to go back to work.
Here’s a little preview of our weekend!

Maya came with us to go on her very first road trip to the desert!

We saw a lot of quirky desert art.

And shopped in a funky little swap meet that sold a variety of… interesting goods.

I grilled a lot of food.

And we visited a little …

Happy NINTH Blogiversary to This Tasty Life!

I can hardly believe its been nine years since this blog started. My blog would be in the 4th grade if it were a child! Also, my blog and Maya are the same age, if you can believe that.
I’ve slowed down a little on the blogging lately due to being busy at work, hating my laptop at home (that thing is OLD and needs to be replaced), and generally wanting to be OFF the computer on …

breakfast at nate’s garden grill

On Mother’s Day this year, Jake wanted to take Carin out for breakfast to Tobey’s 19th Hole but Carin dropped a hint that she would like to go to Nate’s Garden Grill. She had never been there and it’s very close to Jake’s house, so we figured we’d drive by and see how busy it was and use Tobey’s as the backup plan. The place was not busy at all, lucky for us! Nate’s Garden Grill is located inside the …

breakfast quesadillas

I made these for Sunday morning: Breakfast Quesadillas. I actually got the idea from a Pinterest post about breakfast burritos but I didn’t look hard enough in Jake’s kitchen to see there were big tortillas. All I saw were the little corn taco sized one and on the fly it went from breakfast burritos to breakfast tacos to breakfast quesadillas since I realized tacos would probably fall apart in the pan. I really wanted that crispy outside edge and quesadillas would be easier to heat up that way.

the cork and craft

Recently I was invited to go in and check out a relatively new spot up in Rancho Bernardo called The Cork and Craft. The Cork and Craft is a really unique restaurant that also houses a winery and a brewery. The restaurant came about as a way to bind all three ventures into one, making it a place to not only get a great meal but to also enjoy some local wine and craft beer!

Jake and I went in on a Friday …

macarons at blush desserts

Last week I was out and about in the Convoy area and I decided to pop in to see what kind of treats they had over at Blush Desserts. Initally I just wandered in just for a look-see. I didn’t promise myself I would actually buy anything and my intentions were to only buy a strawberry cheesecake macaron if they had them. And if not, then nothing.
That obviously did not pan out the way I thought it would. I peeked on the macaron …

taste of hillcrest 2015 recap

A few weekends ago I was invited to attend Taste of Hillcrest again and I happily obliged. This year I did not have a partner in crime though since Jake was coaching Little League. I asked a few friends to go but they couldn’t make it either and I ended up having to go alone. But that’s okay, I was able power through part of it and I ended up meeting with Lynn of oh-so yummy and Faye of Faye’s …
