wong’s golden palace | la mesa

Jake and I had our 9 year anniversary recently (yes… 9!!) and for our anniversary Jake wanted to pick the restaurant. That’s how we ended up at Wong’s Golden Palace in La Mesa. I have a vague memory of going here when I was kid. Jake and I have passed the place a ton of times with it’s kind of retro fake “palace” exterior. It was high time to try it as an adult.

The entrance to the restaurant is actually …

seasons 52 | downtown san diego

Recently I was invited to a blogger dinner at Seasons 52 at The Headquarters in Downtown San Diego. It’s that cool spot right next to Seaport Village if you aren’t familiar with the Headquarters! Jake was my date that evening and we got down to Seasons 52 right on time.

[strawberry basil infusion]
There was a little mingling session with the other bloggers and we were served these lovely little basil infused drinks. It’s strawberry-infused Reyka Small Batch Vodka with agave nectar, …

lulu’s bread & breakfast + hiking in red rock canyon in vegas
February 24th, 2016 Las Vegas, Mary, Travel Mary 6 Comments

Jake and I spent a lazy day at the hotel after we got into Vegas. We had plans to go out and do Fremont Street and the like… but ended up just watching TV or staring out of our cool 26th story window. Sometimes you just need a night of doing nothing to kick off your vacation! The next morning we were up and about and headed out to breakfast far, far away from the strip at a little place …

viva las arepas + the $20 trick in las vegas
February 22nd, 2016 Cheap Eats, Las Vegas, Mary, Travel Mary 6 Comments

Last weekend Jake and I took a little trip to Las Vegas. We took Friday off so we could head up and enjoy a full weekend in Las Vegas. I tried the “$20 Trick” at our hotel, too! More on that later. First… Venezuelan food from a little spot called Viva las Arepas.

Viva las Arepas is located just north of the Stratsophere hotel (can you see it peeking through in the upper left corner?) in a little strip mall. It was about …

mardi gras + greystone steakhouse
February 10th, 2016 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County Mary 2 Comments

The real Mardi Gras is always Fat Tuesday (yesterday) but in the Gaslamp they celebrated Mardi Gras last Saturday! I got semi-dolled up for the night with Jake in tow. I already had some beads from my dinner at Blush Ice Bar, too. Little did I know how many beads we’d manage to get later. Our night out in the Gaslamp included a wonderful dinner at Greystone Steakhouse as well as partying at Mardi Gras.

We headed down to the Gaslamp …

mishmash
February 8th, 2016 Barrio Logan, Mary, San Diego County Mary 2 Comments

I’m always trying to look for new places and last weekend was no exception! After running around town doing some errands on Friday, Jake, T and I headed to a new spot over in the revamped Barrio Logan (did you know they got a gateway sign in 2014 – I didn’t until I saw it!). The place? A new joint called MishMash. Talking to our waitress, we found out they are still in the “soft opening” stage and have only …

gaslamp mardi gras dinner preview at blush ice bar
February 1st, 2016 Downtown, Mary, San Diego County Mary 6 Comments

Last week I was invited to come and check out a little preview dinner at Blush Ice Bar for the special Gaslamp Quarter Mardi Gras Celebration that is happening THIS WEEKEND on February 6th, 2016. Quite frankly I’m in shock that it’s already February. 2016 is really zooming along!

In case you don’t know about the crazy Mardi Gras Celebration, here’s a little recap. There will be a huge block party in the Gaslamp spanning about 10 blocks with 5 live stages with …
