legacy brewing tap and kitchen / miramar
March 25th, 2015 Mary, Miramar, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

I’m always looking out for new restaurants near my office since I love variety and I love checking out new places. I get uber bored when I end up going to the same places again and again, especially since I live and work in the same area. I need new foods in my life! When I discovered there was a new gastropub like place nearby I knew I had to go and scope it out.

Legacy Brewing Tap and Kitchen is …

wang’s north park

Recently I was invited to check out Wang’s North Park, an Asian-American-Chinese fusion kind of place over in hipster North Park. I took Jake, T, and Carin (Jake’s mom) with me to the dinner. We went pretty early on a Saturday, right when they opened, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Wang’s North Park is situated in a gigantic open space that used to JC Penney way, way back in the day. There are two levels of seating …

wing crawl / san diego wing week

San Diego Wing Week is here!

It’s a week long event that offers special deals on wings – mostly $5 baskets of wings. There are also $10 deals, usually wings and beer, available at all participating locations. Tomorrow (the 20th) is the last day for San Diego Wing Week so I felt it was my duty to post about this today instead of another Portland post (but that’ll be later this week).
This time around my crawl cohorts included: Jake, Laura, Lynn …

lumberyard tavern / encinitas
January 14th, 2015 Encinitas, Mary, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

Last month I was invited to check out Lumberyard Tavern up in Encinitas. I brought Stacey along with me to check it out. Whenever a place has a long whiskey menu, I figure Stacey is the one to bring along.

[kentucky koolaid and an old fashioned / $8]
I hardly drink these days but Stacey insisted I at least try something. Fine, okay. I ordered a totally girly fruity sounding drink called Kentucky Koolaid with bulleit rye, muddled (smoooooooooshed) blueberries, agave soda …

[recipe] mom’s homemade lumpia
January 9th, 2015 Mary, Recipes mary 10 Comments

If you’ve ever been to a Filipino party or get together, then I’m certain you’ve had lumpia. These golden fried sticks of goodness are incredibly hard to resist and never last for too long at any party. For Christmas I got my mom to show me how to make her homemade lumpia once and for all (ie: I wrote it down this time). She doesn’t really measure so I had to watch her carefully and take notes.

First you have to …

new year’s eve 2014 recap
January 8th, 2015 Mary, Recipes mary 6 Comments

I meant to post this last week but instead of writing on New Year’s Day we sat around in our PJ’s and played video games. And then I had to work on Friday. #thestruggleisreal

On New Year’s Eve I went shopping for groceries in Carmel Mountain Ranch. It was cloudy, dark, and drizzly and at about 12PM we reached a high of 45 degrees. What in the what?! I know for someone who doesn’t live in San Diego this might seem …

carson kitchen / las vegas
December 9th, 2014 Las Vegas, Mary, Road Trips mary 4 Comments

During Food Fight Write, we got standard convention breakfast (re: trays of mostly warm eggs, bacon, and such, though one day there was also a Bloody Mary Bar…) and our lunches fared much better (BBQ!). Usually we were on our own for dinner and one evening I ventured out to Carson Kitchen with a couple of other bloggers. I had heard people talking about Carson Kitchen and got recommendations for it from other bloggers so I figured it be a …

mj’s yogurt time and deli revisit
November 17th, 2014 Chula Vista, Mary, San Diego County mary 6 Comments

Short post today since I feel I am not “fully recovered” from Vegas yet. Or rather, I have so many ideas running through my head from the conference that I couldn’t focus enough to do a longer post. Hah!
Recently I met up with CC from Pink Candles at Ridgemont High. She had some birthday goodies for me and more importantly, travel information about my next fun trip to Portland! It’ll be our first visit to Portland and I’m starting to gather …
