wang’s north park

Recently I was invited to check out Wang’s North Park, an Asian-American-Chinese fusion kind of place over in hipster North Park. I took Jake, T, and Carin (Jake’s mom) with me to the dinner. We went pretty early on a...

fig tree cafe / hillcrest

The Fig Tree Cafe that I recently visited is actually one of three separate locations here in San Diego. Johan Engman, also the proprietor of Cafe Cantata, started the first restaurant in Pacific Beach and has since branched out to two additional plots in Hillcrest (2011) and Liberty Station (2013). Originally intended to be destination for brunch, the two newer locations now offer dinner in addition to the relaxed late Sunday breakfasts that we San Diegans love so much. I adore brunch like a hobbit craving “elevenses,” though, so when I was invited out for a tasting, I knew that I had to swing by on a weekend morning to try it out.

twenty/20 grill and wine bar / carlsbad, ca

Recently I was invited to go all the way up to Carlsbad land to check out a place called Twenty/20. It’s right next door to Legoland. When you pull into the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa (Twenty/20 one of those fancy hotel restaurants, after all) you can spy the different attractions down in Legoland without actually going to Legoland. Since I’m not under the age of 12, Legoland has very little hold over me, though S (who was along for the adventure) seemed a tad sad to see Legoland without stepping through it’s hallowed gates. Poor S. Maybe some other time.

Gino’s Pizzeria Featuring The Philadelphia Sandwich Co. (isn’t that a mouthful) is a new spot to the Miramar area, behind the Denny’s on Miramar Road. They put together Gino’s Pizza and added the Philadelphia Sandwich Co. into the shop. The...

Last weekend Jake and I felt like young adults again, going out for dinner and a play. At night! On a Friday! By ourselves! This is a rare thing these days. We were going over to Coronado to check out...

tobey’s 19th hole

This is a resurrected post from when I wrote about Tobey’s 19th Hole for a local San Diego site back in the day (2012, to be exact). I didn’t realize I still had the text and photos lurking around in...

snooze am eatery / del mar, ca

Recently I was invited to come back and check out Snooze AM Eatery. Snooze AM Eatery originally opened a location in Hillcrest (which we visited!) but there’s a newer spot in Del Mar as well. Their roots are in Denver...

blaze pizza

Some PR peeps for Blaze Pizza sent me some coupons forever ago to try it out the pizza here and I finally got around to it. There’s a location up in far away Carlsbad, one in Encinitas and a newer...
