carnitas uruapan revist

We hadn’t been back to Carnitas Uruapan in awhile. If you remember, I like calling this place Uhura (Star Trek, yo) instead because I kept forgetting how to say “Uruapan.” It pretty much still happens to this day. Sometimes I’ll just look at Jake and say “Uhuraaaaaaa!” and he’ll know what it is that I want. Ain’t that awesome?

I last wrote about Carintas Uruapan back in 2013 (thought we’ve been back many times) and I’m happy to see that the menu …

rodeos meat market

Tacos! Tacos are a completely lovely thing, aren’t they? Street style Tijuana tacos are even better than “normal” tacos with their oodles of meat and simple toppings. When you find a hidden taco gem if feels like you just stumbled upon a secret clubhouse filled with treasures. That’s how Jake and I felt when we found Rodeos Meat Market.

Jake had been wanting to visit another place in this little strip mall off Market and 47th street. Said place wasn’t prepared …

¡salud! by the san diego taco company / barrio logan

Last weekend Jake and I felt like young adults again, going out for dinner and a play. At night! On a Friday! By ourselves! This is a rare thing these days.
We were going over to Coronado to check out the play, Avenue Q, and needed a little dinner before the show. Jake nixed any suggestions I made for dining in Downtown so I went with a place just outside of Downtown in Barrio Logan. A new place called ¡Salud! which is …

la palapa nayarit / imperial beach | nestor

I consider La Palapa Nayarit to be in Imperial Beach though I know it’s called “Nestor”. I’ve just always associated that whole area with Imperial Beach! My childhood friend, Sarah, moved around a lot but they seemed to always end up living in Imperial Beach and I spent a lot of time in this area. Once we got off the freeway that seemed close enough to Imperial Beach for me. Hah!
La Palapa Nayarit is a place we visited during the …

south bay food crawl

Very recently Jake, T and I went on a South Bay Food Crawl hosted by CC of Pink Candles at Ridgemont High. Jinxi of Jinxi Eats + S joined us on the crawl as well. We explored a few spots in the South Bay and had a great time trying out some new foods!
Stop #1: Birria de Res

Our first stop was at a place down near Imperial Beach called Fernandez Restaurant and Catering. The restaurant looks like it’s on the bottom floor …

el rodeo mexican food / city heights

One afternoon Jake and I were running around doing a few errands and needed a quick bite to eat. The first place we tried to go wasn’t open (a new place on University Ave. called Happy Rooster – how awesome is that name?) and Jake picked this second spot – a Mexican place on El Cajon Blvd. called El Rodeo Mexican Food.

It’s one of the many places that line El Cajon Blvd. and is pretty close to Hoover High School. …

taco bus / tampa, fl
May 6th, 2014 Florida, Mary, Road Trips mary 6 Comments

Our flight landed in Tampa at about 10:30PM. Jake and I were still on West Coast time so we were still pretty awake despite the long plane ride across the country. Chris, our friend and host extraordinaire for the week, took us to the first pit spot of the entire trip. He took us native San Diegans to a Mexican restaurant! Chris said this was probably the best Mexican place in town and it’s a little different from anything we …

romesco mexiterranean bistro / bonita, ca
February 13th, 2014 Bonita, Mary, San Diego County mary 4 Comments

My original interest in Romesco Mexiterranean Bistro was that I had seen them on Eater 38 San Diego list. And then I saw a coupon deal for them on LivingSocial (or something similar) which I bought and Jake, S. and I went for dinner one evening in late December. I didn’t have my regular camera with me at the time, only my iPhone!
