[product review] chipz happen
August 20th, 2014 Mary, products Mary Desjean 6 Comments

I love snacks, especially crunchy snacks, so I was more than happy to receive an offer to try out a new locally made tortilla chip called Chipz Happen. Chipz Happen is a family run business and they make gourmet tortilla chips (“chipz”) in four different flavors. The chips are Non-GMO, Gluten Free, have No Trans Fat and they use Rice Bran oil to fry the chips.

The idea/recipe comes from the mom of the family and the daughters helped to create the …

this is what we think of the new lay’s potato chip flavors
August 5th, 2014 Mary, products Mary Desjean 18 Comments

Jake and I decided to go out and grab the new test flavors for Lay’s Potato Chips contest “Do Us a Flavor”. The new flavors in contention are: Cheddar Bacon Mac and Cheese, Mango Salsa, Cappuccino, and Wasabi Ginger.
I’m not good at doing videos so you get photo reactions to 3 of the 4 new Lay’s Potato Chip flavors. We didn’t want to try (and didn’t see) the Wasabi Ginger flavor. I don’t like wasabi as it is, I can’t possibly see …

[product review] asian snacks part two
May 2nd, 2014 Mary, products Mary Desjean 0 Comments

Another edition of crazy Asian snacks! All of these are again from H Mart, where I like to browse the aisles looking for different snacks to try.

Yes! Chips! Why! All! The exclamation points?!

These are sort of like popped crunchy air chips. They are a bit sweet and a bit salty and I really liked the texture of these. Maybe the exclamation points have a point after all. Yummy!

I got these because they said “During my stay in caffe” which just …

[product review] crazy snacking with piattos, kikiriki drumstix and pastino
March 28th, 2014 Cheap Eats, Mary, products Mary Desjean 6 Comments

Doing a quick little post today on some uh… interesting looking snacks I picked up at H Mart recently. I’ve bought a lot of the weird snacks at various Asian markets to give away to other people and I find I don’t always try them myself… so I figured I’d start! Here’s what I picked up during this round of snacks.

Jack ‘n Jill’s Piattos was the first thing I picked up. I grew up with Jack ‘n Jill’s products. When …

[product review & giveaway] soofoo (super good food)
December 13th, 2013 Giveaways, Mary, products Mary Desjean 77 Comments

I got a new product for you to take a gander at. It’s called SooFoo. I know this looks like its some kind of super crazy too-good-for-you-probably-tastes-like-dirt-and-sticks kind of thing. And I know it looks like that because I kind of thought that looking at the packaging…

BUT… I actually ended up liking it. My parents didn’t really like it, though. My dad thought it looked like there were crickets or bugs in it and that there was maybe some twigs in …

san diego pretzel company + giveaway!
November 22nd, 2013 Mary, National City, products, San Diego County Mary Desjean 4 Comments

I’ll bet that you had no idea that there’s a pretzel factory in San Diego! I’ll further bet that you didn’t know it sat in National City, amongst a few houses, and that they provide pretzels for many places who distribute to tons of places across the country (like Disneyland! And Karl Strauss! And stadiums and stuff!). And it’s all made here in San Diego!
The only reason I found out about the San Diego Pretzel Company is because I was …

[product review] chicago mix style popcorn / g.h. cretors
November 11th, 2013 Mary, products Mary Desjean 1 Comments

For the most part, I prefer to make my own popcorn. There’s just something about freshly popped, buttered and salted popcorn that gets me a bit excited. The salty buttery treat is one of my all-time favorites so I’m always happy to try popcorn related products. I was recently sent samples of G.H. Cretors bagged popcorn in caramel flavor, cheese flavor and Chicago Mix.

What is “Chicago Mix” you might be asking? It’s a mixture of both caramel and cheddar popcorn, …

[product review & recipe] organic peanut butter brookies
October 3rd, 2013 Mary, products, Recipes Mary Desjean 10 Comments

A few weeks ago I got an email from Stef of Canarsie Cookies asking if she could send me some of her “brookies”. What the heck is a brookie?! It’s like a brownie and a cookie got drunk one night and had a love child that emerged and they named their baby a “brookie”. Ahh, sweet, sweet drunken love.
The Brookie:

Stef sent me some brookies to try. It’s a fusion of peanut butter and chocolate that kind of turned into a …
