We were up in Kearny Mesa over the weekend and we were hungry! We almost went to Lolita’s again but I suggested we check out Baguette Bros since Jake and T haven’t been there yet.

Luckily for us, Baguette Bros opens early at 9:30AM! We got there around 10AM and had the place to ourselves.

Whatever you order at Baguette Bros, make sure you get a little cup of their Cilantro Lime Ranch. It’s a unique dipping sauce that they make themselves!

Updated Menu at Baguette Bros | San Diego, CA | This Tasty Life

The menu at Baguette Bros has been expanded since my initial visit last year. Bowls and bao buns have been added to the menu!

Milk Tea and Matcha Tea with Boba at Baguette Bros | San Diego, CA | This Tasty Life

We were thinking about going to Square Bar again but they didn’t open until 11AM, so we got drinks here. We got Milk Teas and Matcha Milk Tea [$3.25 + $0.40 cents for boba]. Jake and I got the regular milk tea while T got the Matcha. The manager (who was working the counter that day and was making our milk teas) accidentally gave us two Matcha teas and she let us just have the second one she accidentally made. I’m not into matcha myself, but T really enjoyed it and he scored both of the drinks for himself. The milk tea was good – just a tad sweet!

Bulgogi Tater Tots at Baguette Bros | San Diego, CA | This Tasty Life

Jake ordered these Bulgogi Tater Tots [$8] for us to share and I must say… these were damn tasty! The tater tots were perfectly crisp while maintaining a soft and fluffy inside. The sauce was some kind of magically delicious voodoo and the tender pieces of bulgogi beef rounded out this entire dish. Course, I didn’t eat the egg, but I loved the rest of it. This is a HUGE plate of food so it’s definitely good for sharing. You can get this with tots or fries. T – who doesn’t like tater tots (I know, what??) – really liked the tots as well. Winner!

Breakfast Banh Mi Sandwich at Baguette Bros | San Diego, CA | This Tasty Life

Since it was still morning I ordered the Breakfast Banh Mi [$6] for us to share. I asked for it with no pickled veggies but… oh well, too bad. This has Vietnamese sausage and egg on it but it was much heavier on the egg and barely had any sausage in it. Jake’s half had one little piece of sausage and that was it. This sandwich was so-so. I wished there had been more sausage in it.

T also ordered the Gangnam Style Banh Mi [$8.50] which came with bulgogi ribeye, kimchi aioli, and grilled onions. I didn’t snap a photo though because I forgot to. He really enjoyed his sandwich.

Bulgogi Bao Bun at Baguette Bros | San Diego, CA | This Tasty Life

I wanted to try their new bao buns so we got one of each to share. These come with pickled onions and green onions and I asked for it sans pickled onions. If it was normal onions I’d be all over it. Here’s a look at the Bulgogi Bao Bun [2 buns for $6] – this is really stuffed with meat! The tender bulgogi has a lovely flavor to it and it was cooked just right. It tasted great with the soft, pillowy bao bun as well. Yum!

Pork Belly Bao Bun at Baguette Bros | San Diego, CA | This Tasty Life

On the flip side is the Pork Belly Bao Bun. This is different from their roasted pork belly (I love their Belly Flop Banh Mi) as the skin wasn’t as crunchy. The pork belly is tender and flavorful but I really do prefer that crispy-crunchy top!

It was great being able to try a few more items at Baguette Bros with Jake and T – I know that nothing will go to waste when the three of us go out to eat!

  1. Haven’t tried this place yet. Seems like a lot of flavors going on with those sandwiches. Those bulgogi tater tots look good too. I know Bert would love this place.

    1. Hi CC – The banh mi’s are pricier here and I prefer them at other places but I do like that they have a pork belly banh mi and the tater tots were really good! I’ve come back just for the bulgogi tater tots and nothing else!
