yogurt swirl [revisit] / mira mesa – san diego, ca

We’re heading into Friday and I have just enough energy to do a short post! We did a quick revisit to Yogurt Swirl after we got Manny’s Taco’s.

This is the large portion and it’s a healthy amount to share between three adults and one kid. We selected the Watermelon Shaved Snow which we topped with nonpareils, strawberry pop jelly things and mango.

I really liked the strawberry pop jelly things. I don’t know the real name of them, I just call them pop jelly things since they popped in my mouth when I ate them. Sort of like sweet caviar. But not fishy. And strawberry tasting. Mmm.

I thought the chocolate would be incredibly weird with the watermelon, but it actually wasn’t too bad. They were crunchy and added to the texture of the dessert. The shaved snow here is really good, kind of creamy and kind of fluffy. I haven’t tried many shaved snow, but this one ranks as my favorite so far.

Other bloggers have been here, too! Multiple times!

  1. I like your incredible sophisticated/eloquent description of the “strawberry pop jelly things” …

I was busting up b/c I would have said the same thing b/c do those things even have a name? And I was scratching my head in confusion b/c you compared them to caviar (and I thought you hated raw fish egg stuff)!

I haven’t been to this yogurt shop but will have to check it out soon

    Have good weekend 🙂

  2. Haha, thanks, Faye! Well, I have *heard* that caviar pops in your mouth and I recently had “fingerlimes” which are compared to being “lime caviar”! I am so descriptive sometimes haha 😀 Hope you have a great weekend!

  3. The strawberry pop jelly things are also known as popping boba. These are my ultimate favorite when I go to a froyo shop. I think the 2 most common flavors I have seen are strawberry and mango.

  4. hi mary, TC really likes those popping boba things. she gets them in her yogurt too. i don’t like the texture because it reminds me of those huge red fish eggs which I don’t like. i’ve seen those finger lime things and it kind of grosses me out seeing those things squish out of the “fingers”. ((shudder)) i’m curious as to where you got them and how you thought they tasted…

    1. Hi CC! I’ve never had fish eggs so I’ve been been traumatized by that experience haha. The finger limes I had with a dish when I was at the Vessel Restaurant at the Kona Kai resort on Shelter Island (link to my review there). It was with the crudo, you can see the finger limes on top of the photo. They did “pop” in your mouth, they quite small and give a burst of a citrus lime flavor. They’re very small though so it’s not a big pop. I liked them! I’m not sure where/when/what store you could get them at. I know I first saw them on Food Librarian’s blog!
