Holiday Baking Day Three: Peanut Butter Reindeer Cookies

The beauty of the internet is seeing other people’s wonderful ideas and using them on your own to treat your own friends and families. Today’s inspiration came from Bakergirl who turned peanut butter cookies into reindeer. I think hers look better than mine, but I’ll just say mine have a certain charm.

I didn’t use Bakergirl’s PB Cookie recipe, instead I used one that I’ve been using a long time from All Recipes called “Dad’s Favorite Peanut Butter Cookies”. I doubled the recipe and made the cookie dough a day in advance to give myself a little break. I only baked up one of my logs this time and I intend to bake the rest later this week so they’ll be as fresh as possible. Above is a shot of the cookie dough on my baking sheet, shaped into a vaguely triangle shape.

Once the cookies come out of the oven, you must start decorating immediately! Here I used chocolate chips for the eyes, M&M’s for the noses and chocolate covered pretzels for the antlers. Just press them firmly into the warm dough and set them set up a little while you work on all of the cookies. Transfer to a cooling rack so the chocolate resets back into the cookies.

I also tried using mini peanut butter cups for the eyes. They kind of look like “Reindeer Goggles” to me.

No matter what you use for the eyes, these Reindeer Cookies are totally cute and make a great treat for holiday boxes!

  1. so cute mary!!!! i’m getting lots of great ideas for next year! those are so creative!

i’m all baked out already. lemon creamcheese bars, blueberry strudel, nutella chocolate chip cookies, russian tea cakes and mini nutella cakes. i don’t want to bake anything anymore for anybody!!!!!!

  2. I spaced out my baking so I’m actually not sick of it yet – which is good since I have another batch of these cookies to make plus I’m going to make a cheesecake! Yum yum yum.
