[product review] green pea cookie
February 26th, 2015 Mary, products mary 8 Comments

I’m a regular supporter or various things on Kickstarter and I get their emails talking about what projects the staff had backed recently or popular projects. I spied a little Kickstarter link to something called Green Pea Cookie and was instantly curious. Cookies… made with green peas? Say whaaaaat? I’m not even a fan of regular peas by their lonesome self, but I do love me some pea soup so I figured it’d be worth it to back the project …

blush desserts / kearny mesa
February 6th, 2015 Kearny Mesa, Mary, San Diego County mary 2 Comments

During Chicken Wing Week last month we tried to go to Common Theory. On a Friday night. I guess I forgot we live in a big metropolitan city because the wait time was over 45 minutes and I wasn’t willing to wait. Instead I dragged Jake and T over to Blush Desserts for a few desserts (for later, of course – we ended up just going to In-N-Out for dinner – mustard grilled burgers, awwww yeah). I’ve popped in here a few times but haven’t really taken photos or anything since I’m just now getting around to posting about it! Blush Desserts has tons of pretty macarons to choose from, plus cupcakes, cakes, bars, macaron ice cream sandwiches as well as coffees and teas.

peanut butter cup cookies
December 22nd, 2014 Mary, Recipes mary 8 Comments

This weekend I did a ton of baking! I made cracker candy again (this year with a new flavor: white Chocolate with lime zest and salt!), lemon ricotta cookies and these babies: peanut butter cup cookies.

They might be my new favorite cookie. They have peanut butter cookies WITH a Reese’s mini peanut butter cup INSIDE. This is magic, I tell you.

I like these more than peanut butter blossoms and plain old peanut butter cookies. Having that extra bit of chocolate/peanut …

lemon ginger shortbread cookies

This year was my first year participating in the Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap! I don’t get to do a ton of cookie swaps but I sure do love giving away cookies. I was able to “practice” on a potential Christmas cookie this year. I really wanted to make a shaped cookie – but NOT do sugar cookies – and finally decided on doing some shortbread.

More specifically: Lemon Ginger Shortbread!

The cookies have a ground up pecans mixed into the flour …

claire’s on cedros / solana beach
October 15th, 2014 Mary, San Diego County, Solana Beach mary 8 Comments

Last week I was up quite early to take my folks to the airport. 4:30AM to be exact. By the time I got back home I felt pretty awake and decided to get ready and then take myself out for breakfast. I hadn’t visited Claire’s on Cedros since 2011 and I had a strong urge for their pancakes again.

[coffee / $3]
It was quite early and I decided to get coffee for some reason, which was kind of a dumb idea …

ham n scram / westminster, ca

Over Labor Day weekend this year, Jake, T, and I made our way back up to Orange County to check out the Civil War Reenactment once again. But first… we had to stop for breakfast. Breakfast is very important after a long drive and a little Yelp research led me to a little place in Westminster called Ham n Scram.

It’s not a big spot. There’s about four tables inside and the place was full that morning. We were worried we’d …

cinnamon coconut oil ice cream sandwich cookies
July 3rd, 2014 Mary, Recipes mary 8 Comments

My plan was to make my Root Beer Float cookies for the Fourth of July this year. Imagine my surprise when I couldn’t find the root beer extract I was so sure was in the cabinets. It wasn’t in the drawers or in my special set of drawers for all of my baking stuff… maybe I used all of it and just don’t remember? Maybe it’s hiding out somewhere behind a big bottle going, “I’m right heeerrrreeeeee!” Oh well. I …
