friday foodie finds / part three
October 17th, 2014etc, Mary, productsMary Desjean 8 Comments

I dig doing my “foodie finds” posts and I hope you enjoy them, too! These are all things that didn’t warrant their own full post, but are still worth mentioning!

Actually this first thing isn’t a “find”. I made these deviled eggs! I don’t even have a real recipe for them. I just scoop out the yolks and then squirt in little mustard, add mayo, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika to taste. Then I add another little dash of paprika …

california grapes demo with chef marcela valladolid
September 26th, 2014etc, Mary, productsMary Desjean 8 Comments

Last week I was invited to attend an event on behalf of the California Grapes Commission with spokesperson Chef Marcela Valladolid. We were there to learn more about grapes and how to add grapes into recipes. Apparently you can do more with grapes then just stuffing them in your mouth (or freezing them and putting them in your drinks)!

There was a big beautiful box with three styles of grapes: green, red and black. I honestly have never really purchased black …

pumpkin items are back at trader joe’s!
September 24th, 2014etc, Mary, productsMary Desjean 10 Comments

Yesterday I needed to pick up a few things at Trader Joe’s since it’s my turn for breakfast Wednesday and I discovered that Trader Joe’s pumpkin items are BACK! YES! Not only that, but they created a bunch of new pumpkin related things and they have little “pumpkin” flags next to all of the pumpkin items throughout the store. WOOHOO!

While browsing through the store, I spotted this in the frozen section and posted a little note to Instagram about whether or …

foodie finds (part 2)
September 18th, 2014etc, Mary, productsMary Desjean 8 Comments

Here’s another installment of “Foodie Finds!” – various things that don’t warrant their own post filled with products and foods I’ve tried out recently.

There’s a Fresh n’ Easy near my work and I stop by there sometimes to pick up a few things. I spotted some “old time” looking candies. The first one: the Goo Goo Cluster. The Goo Goo Cluster was invented in 1912 by Howell Campbell in Nashville, TN. It was the first combination candy that had several types of …

friday food finds
September 5th, 2014etc, Mary, products, San Diego CountyMary Desjean 17 Comments

I had a bunch of things that didn’t quite constitute a full post, so I’m going to stick them all together and call it “food finds”. Why not!

[housemade gyro with potato salad from wich addiction]
Here’s a terrible photo of something SUPER delicious from Wich Addiction. A couple of weeks ago the special of the week was a housemade gyro with their own tzatziki sauce on a scallion flatbread. I almost ate my screen looking at this beautiful sandwich again. The …

September 1st, 2014Mary, products, RecipesMary Desjean 6 Comments

Today’s post is a bit of a two for one kind of deal – we’re trying out two products in one post today! The fine folks over at the Seaside Market in Cardiff were nice enough to send me a sample of their beautiful Cardiff Crack which is a marinated Burgundy Pepper Tri Tip.

waffle nut donuts from vons
August 22nd, 2014Mary, productsMary Desjean 4 Comments

Have you been to Vons lately and seen these new donuts? They’re called “Waffle-Nut” – as in, a hybrid of a waffle and a donut.

I spied these a couple of weeks ago and have now finally tried them all so I can report back to you. You’re welcome.

The very first one I tried was the Cinnamon & Sugar Waffle Nut donut. It looked promising. It had a good amount of sugar and cinnamon sprinkled all over the donut. But, I …

[product review] chipz happen
August 20th, 2014Mary, productsMary Desjean 6 Comments

I love snacks, especially crunchy snacks, so I was more than happy to receive an offer to try out a new locally made tortilla chip called Chipz Happen. Chipz Happen is a family run business and they make gourmet tortilla chips (“chipz”) in four different flavors. The chips are Non-GMO, Gluten Free, have No Trans Fat and they use Rice Bran oil to fry the chips.

The idea/recipe comes from the mom of the family and the daughters helped to create the …
