star wars trash compactor cake for my valentine

Valentine’s Day was over the weekend! I’m sure you realized this, seeing little pop up vendors all over town selling teddy bears and flowers and the insane amount of balloons in the grocery stores. This will be a quickie little post to recap my Valentine’s Day. Specifically, to recap the lovely cake I made for Jake.

Jake usually gets something Star Wars related from me on special occasions. This year I decided to go “all out” and do a whole cake for him.

A scene cake!

Specifically the “trash compactor” scene in Star Wars.

Just in case you aren’t familiar.

Starting surface - Star Wars Trash Compactor Cake

I started the Star Wars trash compactor cake by making a red velvet 9×12 inch cake and putting it on a sheet pan. Then I made cream cheese frosting and colored it with a little bit of black food coloring to get that murky gray color of the water from the scene. The graham crackers serve as the moving walls. I made the mistake of buying a different brand of graham crackers that ONLY had the squares so that’s why some of the walls are shorter… oops.

I didn’t really want to pile the “trash” on really high since I wanted the cake to still taste good. The “trash” topping are crushed red velvet Oreos, mini kit kats, Crunky (found at H-Mart in the check out aisle, it’s those little cube/ball things), and some mini Pepero sticks (I think it was Pepero – which is like Pocky).

This is a really, really easy cake to put together since it doesn’t need to look nice at all. I wish my walls looked a little better, but, oh well.

Oh! And the eyeball. I think that’s a gum ball. It was from some leftovers from a long ago Halloween party.

I also got Jake the perfect card to go with the cake. Woohoo!

Jake really, really liked the cake and was really impressed with it so I was happy about it in the end (but still… those walls…. god).

For me, Jake got me a really cute cupcake balloon (you can’t really tell from my photo), pretty flowers with gerber daisies (my favorite!) a little stuffed puppy dog, girl scout cookies (yum) and some pretty jewelry. I felt very spoiled!

Jake also made a taco dinner which we enjoyed outside since it was so warm this weekend.

Mmm, tacos!

All of the puppies were present and very, very aware that we were eating food.

short-round

This is Jake’s family’s newest puppy: a little guy that they named Short Round. He is ADORABLE. And those EARS. I love his giant ears.

Jake also took me to see this:

Because he is a good sport and a great boyfriend and he knew I wanted to see it. Poor reluctant boyfriend. Lucky me! I know it’s gotten bad reviews but I don’t care, I still enjoyed it. I did NOT reread the book before going to see it (which usually ruins my experience). Movie Christian doesn’t quite live up to the Christian in my head, but I though Dakota Johnson did a good job as Anastasia. It had some amusing parts in it and, well, overall it was still pretty hot if you ask me. Book is still better, though those books really could have been edited down (and written better… but whatever). You don’t go to a movie like this expecting an Oscar performance. And there’s my two cents. 😀

Hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s Day!

  1. Gray frosting cake. Wowzers. You did such a great job w/ that cake! The whole set up (with the ‘trash’) is amazing. I’d ask who the figurines are but I don’t want you to make fun of me so I won’t. I love how Jake used the china bowls for the condiments 🙂

Short Round looks so happy ! Congrats on the new addition to the family.

I’m ashamed to admit that I read 50 Shades and hated it. Loathed it. I must be the only one. This I know. I’m glad that Jake took you to see the movie though – what a good bf 🙂

    1. Hi Faye – I… I’m just going to pretend you know who the characters are and just leave it at that. Thanks for the kind words about the cake!

I read romance novels, I’m much better at admitting this now. Haha. 50 Shades, it’s not the best one out there. It’s kinda like the “gateway” novel to reading better romance novels, in my opinion. I still kinda liked it though because I thought it was fun. It’s like watching old guilty pleasure movies that you don’t want to admit that you like to your friends. But I will admit it. I have no more shame, I guess. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Leanne! Happy belated v-day back! We did have a very nice weekend. Haha, I guess it is brave, but we went to a nice uncrowded theater as well. 🙂

  2. That is such a RAD cake!!!!! I love it! Very creative indeed. It’s cool that you got the Luke figurine for the cake! The card is cute too. It’s a good thing Leia and Han ended up together, heh heh, otherwise, just ewwww.

    Your dogs! 🙂 Awwwwww <3

As for Fifty Shades, I'll be watching it next weekend with a friend. At a theatre far far away from me, haha. I read the fanfic first (when it was a Twilight fan fic known as "Master of the Universe") then the books came out in '12. I may not agree with the uh types of activities Christian Grey is into, but hey, I just want to see the eyecandy.

    1. Hi CC – Hahah… it is good Leia and Han ended up together and that Luke and Leia you know, figured out that bro/sis thing. Otherwise, yuck, haha.

Eye candy is always good! Haha, we saw 50 Shades at the theater near you, though hardly anyone was there (and those who were there were all sitting waaaaaay in the back, hmmmmm!).
