Camp Blogaway

This Saturday I’ll be headed up to LA to attend Camp Blogaway, a “day camp” for food bloggers. Mostly I’m going for some photography tips for my food blogging photos – I feel I’m a little lacking in this area and figured a class might do the trick. Lucky for me my name was pulled from a hat to be sponsored to attend the event since I couldn’t really swing the cash for it. I’m looking forward to going and hoping that it’ll be a great experience.

Has anyone else been to a Camp Blogaway (or similar) events? Is anyone else going?

  1. Yay! So glad that you’re coming! You are going to have a wonderful time. I went to Camp Blogaway in May, and it was easily one of the best blogger events I’ve been to yet! Not only will you learn a ton, but you will get to meet an incredible group of people. Being part of the food blogging community is so much more fun when you’ve actually met some of them in person! See you Saturday!

  2. I am going. I also attended the 3 day camp in May. It was a great time and I am expecting this one to be just as great. I picked up a few photo tips during the May camp. For me some of the information about understanding PhotoShop was very valuable and I have incorporated several of these techniques into my blog. I don’t know what photo information will be presented this time, but like all things, you get out what you put in! So I suggest you come prepared to ask questions specific to your needs. GREG

  3. It’s great to hear that folks who have attended in the past have had a great time and learned a lot – I look forward to going and meeting you both!

  4. You’ll have a fantastic time. The May weekend camp was an incredible learning experience for newbies and seasoned bloggers alike. Every time I go to one of these food blogger gatherings I learn something, and usually many somethings. Some of us will already know each other and will be chattering away, but please walk right up and introduce yourself – don’t be shy! As far as photo advice goes, the presentation will be helpful, but also ask the people with the big fancy cameras (La Fuji Mama, who commented above, is a FABULOUS photographer). Everyone will be happy to share advice. And then please tell me everything you learn about taking photos, because my pics definitely still need help!

  5. Mary, congrats to you for scoring a ticket to Day Camp. I was a camper back in May & my experience was amazing! I will attach a link for you to see some of the fun stuff we did. We learned so much & covered loads of topics. Please say “hi” this weekend, I will be in LA as well. Our foodie blogger community is strong & very supportive of one another. Trust for certain that you will be in the right place 🙂

  6. Hi Mary, this sounds very cool! I love all your photographs and you take excellent pictures that capture real spontaneous moments and have a lot of character. As long as you promise to keep that spirit I’m all for learning new tips here and there. I hope this comment doesn’t come off the wrong way but I think too many people have a fixed idea of what good food photography is. I try to sit by the window and hope for the best.. 😉

  7. Goodness, I wasn’t expecting so many replies! Good to know there are cool things to learn in my future!

Dennis – I think I mostly want tips for when I’m dining at night… by candlelight… haha. I feel a tinge of regret making others see the many flashes of my camera, but I’ve learned to ignore it for the most part. So yes, I promise to keep my spontaneity alive and well!
