Chick-fil-A is promoting a new spicy chicken sandwich to its patrons in California, running a test market in our state before unleashing it upon the rest of the awaiting masses across the country. Apparently a spicy chicken sandwich has been a long requested item and Chick-fil-A has finally indulged a few wishes.
Alyssa and I each snagged some coupons to try the treat out for ourselves. I took my mom there for lunch one day, just after the lunch hour rush, to one of the only locations left in Sports Arena. The place was packed with people ordering sandwiches and waiting around for their food to be delivered. I overheard more than one person order the spicy chicken sandwich which made me believe that maybe people really were waiting for this sandwich to be invented and served at Chick-fil-A.
For some reason after I ordered my sandwich (with an addition of waffle fries, lemonade, and a side of ranch), it appeared right away for me to take back to my seat. This confused me, since there seemed to be quite a number of people behind me waiting for their food. I didn’t argue though and took my food to my seat.
The spicy chicken sandwich ($3.25 for the sandwich only) is very similar to its non-spicy counterpart. It comes on a bun, with the chicken, and some pickles. That’s it. If you want lettuce or tomato (lettuce would have been nice), it would cost you an extra .36 cents to upgrade to the “deluxe”. I thought that was a little silly myself, but whatever. I put ranch sauce onto the top of my bun before digging in, as a totally sauceless sandwich seemed a little weird.
The spicy chicken sandwich, I must say, was quite good. By the time I finished it, there was a slight tingling in my mouth from the spices, but nothing I couldn’t handle. The chicken was moist, slightly crispy, and well seasoned. An excellent sandwich. The ranch helped out a lot as well to cut down on some of the hotness, which I appreciated. My waffle fries were also good, no complaints there. The only thing that was a little off was that my mom, who ordered before me, had to wait 10 minutes before she got her food. Minor setback, but during a lunch hour rush, that extra time spent could make someone late back to the office.
