I got a flyer this week about a Lemon “Aid” charity event put on by UR Charities that’s happening this Saturday! It’s a local event over in Coronado where they will be doing a “Lemon Cookoff” – kind of like a chili cookoff, but with everything flavored with lemon!
If I had gotten the flyer earlier I might have even signed up to participate…
But I’ll go as a visitor instead! You buy tasting tickets and then your ticket acts as a ballot and you can vote on your favorite item. The judges and number of votes helps determine the winner for the Lemon Aid and also raises money.
From their website:
“We are raising money to send 40 kids who are Deaf or hard of hearing and who come from low income families to Literacy Camp this summer. UR Charities is partnering with Deaf Community Services by raising money to send the kids to Deaf Community Services’ first-ever Literacy Camp in Jamul for kids who are Deaf or hard of hearing. You can be part of changing the lives of these kids.
Join Us at Our Inaugural Lemon “Aid” Event and Help Us Send Kids to Camp”
“We have vendors of various types, baked goods and lemonades that will be judged by a few local celebrities and the public, a face painter and a kids’ area, a bake sale, live music, homemade lemonade stands that have been painted partially by people who have special needs.”
I thought this sounded like a fun little charity event and wanted to share it here in case there are any other lemon lovers out there. Jake and I are planning on stopping by for a bit to check it all out!
