mondays are hard aka preview photos from my trip!

Especially when you just got back from vacation! I didn’t have the energy to do a proper post for today, so here’s another “highlight” post. Travel posts to come!

We had pretty much a whirlwind of a trip, visiting many parts of Florida in one week. One place we stopped was a restaurant in Sarasota, FL called Yoder’s Amish Village. We tried their version of Key Lime pie plus this: Peanut Butter pie! It kind of looks like a weird mess but it was really delicious – the peanut butter flavor comes from this sort of “peanut dust” that sprinkled on top with a vanilla custard on the bottom and fresh whipped cream.

I finally got to try Cuban coffee in Miami! It was SUPER STRONG and we had it in these little shots. It was seriously delicious. Jake didn’t care for it at all but I adored it. I also had Cuban coffee again in Tampa on the day we left – good stuff, man.

croquettes

Probably one of my favorite things are these ham and cheese croquettes from La Teresita in Tampa. They look like mozzarella sticks but are filled with this creamy ham and cheese concoction that I just couldn’t get enough of. It was crispy on the outside and so delicious on the inside. I had these several times during the trip!

Here we are at the counter in the cafeteria at La Teresita about to eat a Cuban sandwich.

Real posts to come. Promise.

  1. Welcome back Mary (and Jake!) – Ain’t no-thang wrong with a highlights post! That’s what I did for Canada and SF. Too much to do so just dole it out little by little.

Those croquettes look so good as well as that Cuban coffee (do they make it iced, ha ha). My husband would like that strong stuff.

Looking forward to your trip posts! 🙂

    1. Thanks, CC! Yeah, I’ll probably end up doling it all over time – it’s a lot of stuff! They do actually have the Cuban coffee iced in some places (probably any place really). I’m certain Bert would really dig it, it was very flavorful and strong. Good stuff 🙂

    1. Hi J.S. – Oh yes, I have seen them at Azucar but haven’t tried them! I definitely will have to now, if only to get my “fix”. 🙂

  2. Welcome back! SD missed ya and Jake. I like his glasses !

Never had Cuban coffee before. Did you just drink it straight up (no sugar or cream)?

Can’t wait to see all the food pics! Bring it!

    1. Hi Faye! I love Jake’s glasses. A lot. heehee

Yes, I drank the Cuban coffee straight. You can also get it with milk (con leche!) and add sugar to it. A little cup costs like 65 to 85 cents and they will give you little shooters if you ask. Loved it!
