takhrai thai / poway – san diego, ca

Mary is a San Diego native and has been a food blogger for 11+ years. She is an avid reader, a lover of puppies, and loves trying new food. Foods she loves: sweets, peanut butter, pasta, Triscuit crackers with cream cheese, and extra nuts on top of her sundaes. Food she dislikes: pickles, really spicy food, runny eggs, olives, and too much arugula.

We’ve been here several times since it’s not too far from home. I can’t remember if I have ever had the pad thai, but I will order it next time because I love the flat rice noodles. I usually order the pad see ew because of the flat noodles. The pineapple fried rice looks like it has no peas (pet peeve of the kid, who usually picks them out).

Interesting… I’ve never even considered ordering pad thai with the flat noodles! I think we’ll give it a try!

This is right in our neighborhood. We’ve watched it go through a couple different owners (managers?) and, I suspect, chefs. Whoever’s in charge at the moment somehow got rid of tender beef. Now we only order chicken, pork, or shrimp.

Lappert’s Ice Cream is next door and further down the strip mall is Nothing Bundt Cakes!

    Hi Sandy –
Make sure you ask for the flat noodles, it doesn’t normally come with the flat ones! I don’t like peas, either, so I don’t blame your kid. But I like pea soup. Go figure.

Hi Leanne – We went to Lappert’s ice cream after dinner, I just didn’t take any photos. Too busy stuffing the ice cream into my mouth 🙂 I didn’t know Nothing Bundt Cakes was in there though, still haven’t tried one of their bundts yet.

We’ve gotten take out from here a long time ago, maybe before it was Takhrai Thai perhaps? It wasn’t the greatest since most of the dishes we tried were rather bland. Just never went back. I see coupons all the time so maybe we’ll give it a try again.

Hi Carol – Maybe they got new ownership/chefs? I found the food to be really flavorful and tasty – I hope you give it another shot!
