the tasty things in life: rolled tacos from lolita’s

This week’s tasty item is something I suspect a lot of people in San Diego are familiar with:

Rolled tacos… from Lolita’s! Made fresh to order, super crunchy with delicious guacamole and cotija cheese on top, how can you go wrong with these crunchy little bits? I actually had never visited Lolita’s before I met Jake. I was truly missing out, but now I can enjoy these wonderfully crunchy tacos!

What’s your favorite taco shop item from around town?

  1. I love rolled tacos. Do “taquitos” only refer to those frozen ones you get by the box? Because I’ve never seen it at a taco shop – it’s always “rolled tacos”.

I used to like the rolled tacos at Santanas, but now that they’re MXN I don’t like them. I know they’re supposed to be the same, so it might just be me being annoyed at the dumb new name. I’m pretty happy with any decent taco shop, as long as you get those tiny little cups of tasty red hot sauce.

    1. At Santana’s, errr, Fresh MXN whatever, their taquitos are actually baby TJ street style tacos. I love those! I think most places interchange rolled tacos and taquitos – crunchy rolled tacos!

CC – I know I’ve had a bite of a CA burrito but I can’t eat a whole one of those myself. I prefer the carne asada chips myself, for some reason I don’t like it as much on fries (probably because I love crunchy stuff).

  2. I’d like to know if there is a difference between taquitos and rolled tacos, too. The name seems to vary from place to place. I stopped ordering rolled tacos from most places because they’re usually too dry. These from Lolitas look good!

I keep calling it Santanas because I’m not sure how you’re supposed to pronounce MXN.

But my favorite taco shop item is the breakfast burrito.

  3. hi mary
okay, i asked my co-worker who is mexican if there is a difference between a rolled taco and a taquito. she said for her, they are different. a taquito is not a rolled up taco for mexicans. she said a taquito is a small taco but in the u.s. they use the terms interchangeably which she feels is wrong.

    1. Hey CC – Thanks for the information! I read somewhere that “taquito” means “baby taco” so that makes sense! I wonder why they ever called the rolled up tacos taquitos then, weird!

  4. NEED that Hot Sauce Recipe!

    Any one have it?

I have come very close to it but if it isn’t exact then anything less is disappointing!
