Last month Jake and I visited Pop Pie Co for the first time! It’s been a long time coming since I’ve wanted to come here for awhile and I was super glad we finally found a time to visit!

Pop Pie Co - San Diego, CA

Pop Pie Co is located on the edge of University Heights off Park Blvd. It’s street parking only in this area and we parked quite close!

Pot Pie case at Pop Pie Co - San Diego, CA

We visited Pop Pie Co right after Thanksgiving so they had Turkey Pot Pies available then. I believe they had stuffing and cranberry sauce inside!

I was also tempted to try a few pies but Jake and I ended up just splitting the Classic Chicken.

This is some of Pop Pie Co’s mini dessert pies – green tea on the left and coconut cream on the right. Adorable! Also who doesn’t want to have a whole pie to yourself, even if it is tiny?!

Chicken Pot Pie at Pop Pie Co - San Diego, CA

The Classic Chicken Pot Pie with a side of Mashed Potatoes and Gravy cost us $11 (that’s including one side dish). Now pot pies seem like a “meh, whatever, simple” kind of dish but I have to say that this one is really elevated. The crust has the perfect amount of crispiness/flakiness. The gravy inside is yummy and full of fresh herbs and compliments the mix of vegetables and chicken inside. There’s a good amount of fresh chicken chunks inside. It all works together to create a lovely and delicious pot pie.

Jake only wished for more gravy inside. But he always wishes for that.

The mashed potatoes comes with chicken gravy on top. These are creamy and the gravy is quite good!

Creamed Corn at Pop Pie Co - San Diego, CA

Jake and I both loved the creamed corn [$4] which we got as an additional side dish. I liked that this wasn’t too heavy or too creamy. The sauce tastes light and you can definitely still see/taste the corn kernels. The seasoning was great on this one!

Mini Pumpkin Pie at Pop Pie Co - San Diego, CA

Jake opted for the mini Pumpkin Cream Cheese pie [$3.95]. I love the sizes of these tiny pies at Pop Pie Co! That dollop of cream cheese on top really changed up and added to the flavor of this pumpkin pie! The spices were on point and the cream cheese added a big of tangy/creamy flavor to the pie. The crust was also wonderful – flaky, buttery, and everything a pie crust should be.

Salted Caramel Chocolate Pie at Pop Pie Co - San Diego, CA

I was in the mood to have something a little chocolatey and opted to try the Salted Caramel Chocolate Pie [$4.25]. This one has intense chocolate flavor so if you’re not a chocolate lover then skip it – but if you are, then you’re in for a treat! It almost tasted like a brownie to me since it’s a bit thick and dense. It’s like having brownie and pie together…. oh baby! I was not even remotely able to finish even this tiny pie because it’s intense in flavor – but it sure satisfied my sweet tooth!

I also noticed that Pop Pie Co has day old pies in their case available for a discount. This would be a great idea to take some pies home for lunch or dinner! Jake and I will definitely be back to partake in more delicious pies!

  1. Cool, I haven’t been back since they opened. Their pies were pretty good, both the savory and sweet. My favorite was the flaky crust for the savory pies. That salted caramel chocolate pie looks delectable; it’s something that Bert would really like.

    1. Hi CC – Hopefully we’ll get around to going again sometime. I might actually just want to swing by and pick up some day old pies to take home!
