I was really close this weekend to making a perfect pizza. At least, it looked perfect before it was actually baked. I used a pizza dough that I got from Fresh and Easy (I love that place) and some leftover BBQ chicken that I had grilled earlier that day. I thought, today is going to be the day I don’t mess up the pizza crust! Ah well. Didn’t happen.
Jake has a pizza stone in his oven and so I figured I would preheat the pizza stone and slide the pizza onto it after it got up to the right temperature (I set it for 500 degrees). Problem was… I couldn’t get the pizza off of the cutting board I had it on. Jake tried his hardest to help me but I inadvertently messed it up. We ended up just putting it on a sheet pan.
It looked really good and smelled really good when it came out of the oven – I put a thin layer of BBQ sauce on the crust, with the BBQ chicken pieces (which had a mixture of Phil’s BBQ Sauce and Sweet Baby Rays on it – yum), some onions, fresh mozzarella cheese and then I topped it with cilantro when I took it out of the oven.
The issue? The middle was too thin. The outer crust was perfect. I had stretched the dough out too far and it got messed up even more during its mishap into the oven.
Oh well, I’m determined to make near-perfect pizza again soon. Surely I can roll out some pizza dough and have it be totally delicious, right?
Hi everybody!
Just want to preface this by saying that Mary & Alyssa gave me permission to comment!

hey, what kind of pizza stone do you have? i’m interested in getting one as making pizzas are pretty fun. you’ll get it soon enough. even when it doesn’t turn out good, you learn what you can do better next time and seems like you do know. i love bbq chicken pizza, but where’s the picture? =)
hey sawyer! the pizza stone isn’t mine (it’s my bf’s) so i’m not sure what kind it is. i haven’t quite gotten the hang of using it yet – but practice makes perfect. as long as i still have volunteers to eat my food, i’ll keep making it! yeah… i forgot to take a photo of the bbq chicken pizza. so sad. next time i will!
