birthday goodies! [free birthday stuff, part one]

I’m going to do the free birthday stuff over a few posts this time to break it all instead of hitting you with it all at once. Cool? Cool.

Today’s focus will be on the “fast food/take out” version of the freebies.

salsa-verde-tacos-combo

[salsa verde shrimp tacos combo / $7.99]

Rubio’s is one of the birthday meals that I have done consistently over the last few years. Not much has changed in the terms of what you get, which is a free meal worth up to $7. I sprung for the combo and paid the additional 99 cents for the chips and beans and two tacos. Still an excellent deal and I’m happy to see they haven’t changed it. Sign up for the Rubio’s Beach Club yourself to get in on this free meal for your birthday!

veggie-pizza

[veggie pizza with mozzarella cheese, basil pesto, portobello mushrooms, red onion, and tomato on sourdough crust / $6.99]

Here’s one of the new freebies I got this year from Schlotzsky’s Deli. The coupon is good for one free small sandwich or one free 8″ pizza. I wasn’t in the mood for a sandwich and the pizza makes the deal worth a little bit more. I went for a veggie pizza minus the bell peppers and olives.

The guy taking my order seemed pretty unhappy I was using a birthday coupon and didn’t buy anything else. Oh well. The pizza tasted okay. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t really outstanding either. Tasted very much like a frozen pizza to me. I’m thinking maybe the sandwich is the way to go for next time, but I won’t complain too much since it was edible and it was free. which-wich-club-sandwich

[turkey club wich sandwich – $5.75]

This is another newbie item for me this year! It was my first visit to Which Wich Sandwiches and I had to stand there for awhile trying to figure out what I wanted. For your birthday freebie, you get one free small sandwich. The size of the sandwiches are all set prices and you can get pretty much whatever toppings you want on it. The only thing that’s an additional charge is avocado, though I didn’t get charged for it on my birthday.

It was my actual birthday when I went in to get this and they guy asked me – so I think that’s why he threw in the chips and drink for free. It was really sweet of him!

As for the sandwich itself… I thought it was kind of “meh”. The avocado I added was spilling out and smeared all over the back of the sandwich and they use bacon bits instead of slices of bacon in the sandwich… which to me, seems silly. I didn’t like the texture of the bacon and it made the sandwich really weird to me.

But again… free is free and I’m sure I just ordered something I didn’t care for. There’s plenty of options for a better choice next time if you ask me.

Get a free sandwich on your birthday, too, by signing up for Which Wich’s Vibe Club.

baby-pumpkin-bundt-cake

[baby pumpkin bundt cake / $2.59]

The Corner Bakery was one of the first freebies I got. No purchase required and you get one free bakery item of your choice. I haven’t actually eaten this eat, so I’ll have to report back later on this one. Get a freebie birthday bakery item by signing up for Corner Bakery’s eCafe.

pumpkin-cupcake-sprinkles

[pumpkin cupcake]

For a little sweet something something, there’s the free birthday cupcake from Sprinkles. This year I opted to try the seasonal pumpkin flavored cupcake since it was available that day. The pumpkin cupcake had a nice flavor to it (pure pumpkin) with spices in the not-overly-sweet frosting. The cupcake stayed moist for a couple of days until I finally got around to eating it. Yum! The free birthday cupcake can only be redeemed on your actual birthday, making this one a little harder to get. Luckily my office has moved closer to La Jolla so it wasn’t too hard for me to go grab it. Sign up for the Sprinkles birthday freebie at ilovesprinkles.com.

This is the end of Part One! Part Two will consist of my “sit down” restaurant freebies. Stay tuned!

  1. I always look forward to your bday freebie round up posts. i like that you don’t have to go on your actual bday to most of these places, except for sprinkles. i always like my rubio’s bday meal and enjoyed my sandwich from wich which this year (went to the one in PB). The corner bakery and schlotsky’s are new to me, but so far! Can’t wait for your next post on the sit down places!

  2. You have TWO posts for freebies?!! Man you are the Master 🙂 I swear I’m going to do this next year and get my share of free bday food. I’m already signed up for a few but always get bogged down during that month to really make the most of the freebies (I know, WTH is wrong w/ me lately). But thanks for posting about the freebies that don’t require any min purchase – suhhhweeet….

    1. I tend to only do the ones that don’t require min purchase since I do a bunch on lunch breaks. I thought it’d be better to break it up 🙂 stay tuned!
