Jake celebrated his birthday this week and I made him a cake!
Jake’s favorite kind of cake is red velvet so I set out to make him one – but instead of red, I made it blue! Two reasons for that. 1) Jake’s favorite color is blue and 2) I didn’t have any red food coloring. Ha.
Since we’re totally into collecting Funko Pops I got him this “Freddy Funko” happy birthday pop to be the cake topper. Isn’t it cute? “Freddy Funko” is Funko’s mascot in case you didn’t know!
Here’s what the inside of the cake looks like. I put in quite a bit of blue food coloring to give it this dark blue hue. I love how it turned out!
I also used the cake “leftovers” from when I leveled the cake for that “decoration” that on top of the cream cheese frosting. This was an awesome cake!
I used the recipe for both the Red Velvet Cake and frosting from Sally’s Baking Addiction if you want the recipe!
Happy birthday Jake! Nice cake Mary! 🙂
Thanks, Lynn!
What an AWESOME cake!! Happy birthday to Jake!!!!!!
Thank you, Lolo! I thought I had replied to this sooner…. I suck, haha.
Ooh such a pretty cake. Love that’s it’s a blue red velvet. Haha!
Aww, thanks Kirbie! I might have to try green velvet or another color next time!
Your cakes are amazing Mary. I love the blue velvet crumbs you put on the frosting. Very cool and of course, the Freddy Funko topper! So cute!
Thanks for your kind words, CC! I thought the crumbs were a nice addition, too.
