ICMonster is a brand new ice cream shop that recently opened in Mira Mesa. It replaced the old T-Pop Desserts location. They make Thai-style ice cream rolls on the spot and also have drinks!
ICMonster is located right next to Seafood City off Mira Mesa Blvd. The Sherman Williams paint store is on the corner.
I am too short to take a good photo of this sign. Stupid short legs.
They also sell pens and phone cases. It’s that kind of crowd in here.
Butterfly Pea Flower Tea explained.
I went to ICMonster right after work one afternoon and hit the shop about 3:45PM during Spring Break. There were lots of teenagers in here hanging out at the tables. I had only a few people ahead of me in line. My wait was probably like 20-25 minutes for my ice cream and drink. The drink was ready first and I was told my ice cream was almost done.
The rolled ice cream menu. You can get your ice cream in a cup, in a donut, or in an egg waffle. I saw photos on Yelp of the ice cream tucked into an egg waffles like a taco and that seemed silly to me. While I was here, a few people ordered an egg waffle on the side, which I thought was a smarter move. I wish I had thought of it when I ordered!
Drinks.
While I was waiting in line, I watched them roll up some ice cream.
Here’s a little video on the process of how they make the rolled ice cream at ICMonster. I made it speedy so you wouldn’t have to sit for 2 minutes watching this. Ha.
The lady making the ice cream messed up on rolling it at the end. She told me I was making her nervous with my video. Eep! Sorry!
Here’s my order about to be rolled up. You can see a drizzle on honey on top!
I got the Oh, Honey [$6.25] rolled ice cream. The Oh, Honey has crushed up corn flakes in the mix with a drizzle of honey on top before it’s rolled up. They added whipped cream on top, more corn flakes, and bits of Honeycomb cereal for a cute touch!
I liked the flavor combination on this one! You get a nice touch of sweetness from the honey and I loved all the crunchy elements. I liked that the corn flakes were put inside the ice cream itself and were on top for extra crunch! The ice cream itself was nice and creamy. It’s fun to watch them make the ice cream right before you, too. It does take a little bit of time so I didn’t mind the 20-25 minute wait, but I doubt I’d want to wait more than 30+ minutes for this. I have limits, you know.
I also ordered the Lemon Butterfly-Pea Tea [$4.25]. Something about the pH of the tea makes it change colors when you add things to it. The lemon is at the very top, where it’s all pink. The separation of color is really pretty.
Here’s the drink after it’s all shaken. The lady made sure to tell me that it NEEDS some shaking before you drink it. The color becomes a more even pink after a good shaking. I liked this drink – it didn’t taste too sweet to me. It tasted like a floral-ish lemon-y drink. I loved the glass bottle that it came in with the stopped on top. I read on ICMonster’s Facebook page that you get 10% off your next drink order if you bring the bottle back in. Smart.
I think ICMonster will be a fun, new addition to the neighborhood. I like seeing new places like this pop up in Mira Mesa!

TC totally wants to go here. The butterfly pea tea looks cool. It’s also offered at Cake de Partie.
Hi CC – Yeah, this is the hip new spot. It almost seems weird to me to have something “hip” in Mira Mesa haha. I remember your post about these teas at Cake de Partie! I still need to go there, I want to try their crepe cakes.
I need to go back to Cake de Partie. Their crepe cakes were good. They also had crepe cake at Square Bar. Hey, I guess Mira Mesa is getting all hipster now. They just need a decent coffee shop.
Haha, I was just talking about that with someone the other day. Mira Mesa is getting hip stuff! Ugh, we do need a real coffee shop!
