little cakes cupcake kitchen / vista – san diego, ca

Little Cakes Cupcake Kitchen is in far away land – aka Vista, CA – but since Jake, myself and the kids were planning on going up to San Marcos for another deal, I decided we could take a detour to Vista for some cupcakes thanks to a deal from LivingSocial.

Cupcakes this way, folks!

Little Cakes Cupcake Kitchen serves up a variety of cupcake flavors. Check out our goodie box below:

Jake only ever has one request anymore – and that’s for red velvet cupcakes. I got to choose three others and the kids both wanted the Chocolate Mint cupcake.

But first, we all shared a piece of this Pancakes and Bacon Cupcake. I wanted to show this photo with the wrapper off so you can see that yes, there is indeed bacon in the batter. The cupcake itself was kind of crumbly, more muffin-like to me than cupcake-like. Almost akin to cornbread. It has a slight sweet flavor to the cupcake with bits of smoky bacon. The frosting was almost like having something buttery and sweet on top of your breakfast cakes. Unique and tasty ~ but I think I’d want to share it more than have one by myself since it was a bit rich. The bacon pieces are a bit chewy as well, which isn’t a surprise, but for someone who prefers crispy bacon it’s not the bestest. But it’s still pretty good and totally different.

Here’s Jake’s Red Velvet Cupcake. It was quite moist and had a nice crunch on the outer edge, almost like the edge of a brownie and I really liked that. It made me wish I had ordered a Red Velvet for myself. A mild chocolate flavor like most red velvets here and the frosting wasn’t too sweet or overpowering – it was just right.

This is my Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cupcake. Chocolate cake with a peanut butter filling and a peanut butter-chocolate frosting. Very rich! The chocolate had a nice flavor to it and was pretty moist. I wished that the frosting was peanut butter-only, but I can see why they mixed it since there was a peanut buttery filling. It was more mousse-like – I think I was expecting something a bit denser. It was still good though, but probably didn’t fulfill all of my peanut butter dreams.

Chocolate Mint Cupcakes – I didn’t try these. The kids liked them, though.

Since I had already had an overfill of sugar that day, I saved this one for later: a Hazelnut with Nutella Chocolate Cupcake. There’s a layer of hazelnut on the bottom topped off with a buttercream. I remember liking this but still, I think my favorite of the bunch was Jake’s Red Velvet!

If you’re up in North County and need a cupcake fix, this little shop will do right by you with their moist cupcakes (and interesting flavors!).
