sin city burger at smashburger + giveaway

Hello to you on this fine Friday morning! Let’s talk a little bit about Smashburger. Cause I ate there recently. This is a foodie blog after all. We talk about food around here!

Jake and I hit up Smashburger after they graciously gave me some coupons to check out a couple of burgers. When we were ordering the sign above totally caught my eye. Mmm, chocolate peanut butter shakes! I haven’t had one in awhile (these babies have already existed at other little places in town) and while I wanted to try it, I resisted. Maybe next time, my love.

The burger we were here to see is the newly available Sin City Burger. Previously this burger has only been available in the Las Vegas market but Smashburger recently decided to share it with the rest of the country. It’s a burger topped with melted American cheese, applewood smoked bacon, haystack onions, a fried egg, and smash sauce on an egg bun. Doesn’t it look grand?

Jake ate this burger and I just had a bite. The flavors were quite tasty but I was still leery of that fried egg in the burger since I’m not a fan of runny eggs. The egg appeared to be fried hard though since it didn’t drip out of the burger. I was thankful for that.

The bacon was on the limp side which was sad to me but Jake didn’t mind – he’s not really in the “bacon must be crispy!” bandwagon like I am. Jake really enjoyed this burger and said it was one of the best burgers he’s had at Smashburger. The Sin City Burger is available nationwide until October 26th, though one of the workers may have mentioned you can still order it off the “secret menu”, if you so desire.

I didn’t really manage to get a shot of the fries, but here’s a half shot of them. I mention them simply because they are new-to-us fries and Jake honed in on them when he spied them on the menu. He didn’t quite read the description correctly though because all he saw was “Frank’s RedHot sauce” mentioned and was expecting them to be covered in Frank’s sauce.

They were not.

Instead they are dry seasoned with Frank’s RedHot and Jake said you could barely taste the seasoning and that they were only slightly spicy. He was disappointed in them but admitted he should have read the description more carefully.

[1/3 lb. truffle mushroom swiss burger / $6.59 + haystack onions / $2.29]

As for me, I decided to try the truffle mushroom burger. The truffle burger comes with Truffle mayo, sautéed crimini mushrooms, and aged swiss on an egg bun. I could smell the truffle as soon as the burger was placed in front of me and for that I was quite happy.

The burger was nicely cooked and still juicy and the mushrooms were delicious. It was a pretty decent burger and had a fair amount of truffle in there without being overpowering. It was a solid burger and I enjoyed it. I tried really hard to not compare it to other truffle burgers I’ve had and just enjoy the moment with this burger. I’d say that I would have it again, but I would probably never crave it.

On the other hand, I love the haystack onions here. I love how thin and crispy they are. They were a tad on the oily side for this visit, but I still gobbled them up.
