dog walks and a revisit to con pane rustic breads

A couple of weeks ago, shortly after getting my shiny new FitBit, I noticed that there was a DogFest Walk n’ Roll was happening over in Liberty Station. Wanting to do something fun for the weekend and something to help my new daily goal of 10K steps, I signed up myself, Jake and T and we brought the three doggies down to Liberty Station for the 1 mile charity walk.

There were a ton of people and their dogs getting ready for the walk! The DogFest was in support of Canine Companions, an organization that trains dogs to give to the disabled.

We saw tons of dogs milling around before the walk started. Hello, corgis!

This cool biker dog was also here on his remote controlled bike!

The walk was a nice way to start off my walking for the weekend. I’ve been slowing building up to doing longer walks. After our morning walk and after browsing around in the sponsor area and gets lots of free doggie stuff (treats, bowls, etc.) we walked over to Con Pane Rustic Breads and Cafe for brunch.

The line is always long at Con Pane. It gives you ample time to ogle all of the delicious baked goods before you get to the front to place your order. The cinnamon roll was calling out to me that morning and I heeded it’s siren call. The cinnamon roll was heated up so the glaze got a little melted and gooey. It was a delicious sugary way to start off our lunch.

More sweets… because… geez, why not. On the left we have a chocolate roll. T loves the chocolate bread here and I didn’t want to commit to getting a loaf so instead I got a little roll for us to share. The chocolate rolls here are so delicious (as is all of their bread, really). The dark bread has bits of chocolate throughout it. I believe they use a semi-sweet chocolate as it is not tooth-achingly sweet.

The peanut butter toffee cookie was also really tasty – the base of the cookie is peanut butter (yum) and it has toffee chips in it for a little buttery crunch.

Almost Grilled Cheese with Avocado at Con Pane Rustic Breads and Cafe | San Diego, CA

I thought briefly about trying a new sandwich but no… I didn’t. I did change it up from the last time though and added some buttery avocado into the Almost Grilled Cheese sandwich. I kept it on the rosemary olive oil bread because I think that’s just common sense. The hint of rosemary in the thick slices of bread adds a lovely flavor to the yummy melted brie and gorgonzola cheeses. I’m pretty sure I’m in love with this sandwich.

The avocado made this killer sandwich extra wonderful. I want to curl up in bed with it.

Jake got the PB&J sandwich again and I have to say it’s still an excellent sandwich. It’s the bread at Con Pane that really pushes everything over the top and we’ve driven out to Liberty Station many times in the past just so I could get my bread fix.

new-shoes

After lunch and dropping off the doggies, Jake and I headed up to Road Runner Sports so I could try and find myself some new walking shoes. I needed support for my hard working feet! I was really impressed with the service at Road Runner Sports – we were greeted right away and taken to the place where they analyze your feet and your walking to help you pick out the very best shoes for you. They also make some custom insoles for you on the spot that you can decide to purchase (I did). I tried on 4 different pairs until I found these pretties. Now my feet don’t hurt when I go on my walks, hooray!

On another note, you may have noticed fewer postings around here. Work has been kicking my butt lately and my desire to be on the computer after work hours is very, very low. I’m still here, just posting less right now! Hopefully I’ll be back up to “full strength” after the holidays. Thanks for understanding!

    1. Hi CC – Yeah, the chocolate rolls are only on the weekends. I love their bread! I wish they were open later on regular days so I could go for dinner sometimes.
