I’ve been looking for a place that serves up good cheesesteaks, specifically a place that isn’t inside of a mall. Step up to the plate, Gaglione Bros., and let’s see what you can do.

First up: Garlic Fries ($2.35 – or if you get the combo with a soda, it’s a $2.99 addition). The garlic fries were the first thing we smelled upon entering the shop. They smelled so good – garlic always smells so delicious – so we decided we had to have them with our cheesesteaks.

The garlic fries are made with actual garlic, not just some garlic salt or something. They were good, just not the best thing ever to grace this Earth. Would I have them again? Yeah, probably. They were good enough to satisfy me though I thought some of the fries were a bit overcooked. Also, they tasted unseasoned so I kept adding salt to mine. Salt would be better if it had been added to the hot fries right away. Ah well. Not everything can be perfect.

Second: the Cheesesteak. We got the Cheesesteaks, not the Cheez Whiz Steaks, which I do not like at all. No, no, we got the ones made with actual cheese. I got mine with onions since I love them (I had wonderful breath that day) and my boy got it sans onions, since he only seems to eat onions when they are covered in batter.

Ohhh. This cheesesteak was good. It has a good flavor, it was cooked just right, it was covered in cheese and the bread was perfect. It was a totally satisfying experience to eat this cheesesteak, and getting an 8″ sandwich ($6.55) is no laughing matter because I thought the 8-incher was big (and as such, I did not even finish mine and I handed it off to the boy to be consumed). They also have a 12″ and an 18″ sandwich. Christ. That’s a lot of cheese and meat, my friends. More power to you.


The conclusion: these cheesesteaks are good. If you haven’t had the pleasure, I suggest you drop in. I have had a cheesesteak from Philly before, but it was the Cheez Whiz variety, so I don’t want to comment further. My hosts took me there. If I ever go back, I’m getting the other kind. The kind with real cheese.
